Education Secretary Arne Duncan Slams Texas School System for No Apparent Reason

Why is Secretary of Education Arne Duncan down on the Texas school system, and more pointedly, Rick Perry — especially when Texas students reportedly scored right around the national averages in reading and math on the National Assessment of Educational Progress? That is the question being asked by Time’s Andrew Rotherman.
Time also points out that an August report released by the group that administers the ACT college-admissions exam, reveals Texas high school graduates barely trail the national averages for college readiness.
It is for this reason Time‘s Rotherman found Duncan’s revelation on Bloomberg Television that the Texas school system “has really struggled” under Rick Perry, to be particularly odd. During the interview Duncan stated that “far too few of their [Texas'] high school graduates are actually prepared to go on to college,“ and added that he feels ”very, very badly for the children” in Texas.
Really?
That’s when Rotherman decided to probe Duncan, who, ironically, is the former head of the Chicago school system.
“Texas has challenges. The record speaks for itself. Lots of other states have challenges too. But there is a lot of hard work that needs to be done in Texas and a lot of children who need a chance to get a great education” Duncan stated.
But what record? The record that shows students in Texas perform better than those in Illinois? Time pointed out to Duncan that NAEP revealed Texas’ fourth- and eighth-graders greatly outperformed their peers in Chicago in reading and math.
“I would have to look at all the details, but there are real challenges in Texas. And like every other state, they should be addressed openly and honestly as in Illinois, as in Chicago, and everywhere else” was Duncan’s only reply. Time adds:
True, the national averages aren’t great, but Texas is right there with the pack. So why is Duncan dissing the Lone Star State? Its minority students outperform minority students in Chicago, albeit by smaller margins. And with a high school graduation rate of about 73%, Texas may be slightly below the national average, but it’s doing a lot better than Chicago, which only graduates about 56% of its students.
…
But the bottom line is that although schools in Texas are no great shakes, they‘re hardly the nation’s worst.
The timing of Duncan’s unsubstantiated accusation seems a bit too convenient. Perhaps administration officals are putting 2012 political aspirations before the truth where it comes to our nation’s students.

Posted on August 20, 2011 at 11:14amDown here on the Texas/Mexico border the schools are fantastic. The problem is that thousands of Mexican children cross the border daily to attend Texas schools. This is due to the fact that the schools here don’t really screen the kids to make sure they are Texas residents. So we are having to pay taxes for the education of many thousands of Mexican citizens, many of whom can’t speak or understand English correctly. The problem isn’t with Rick Perry, it’s with school administrators and their “don’t ask, don’t tell” enrollment policies of Mexican nationals.

Drop these indoctrinating classes: Sociology for the racist agenda, Humanities for the Marxist agenda, Psychology for the (criminal is the victim) agenda, revised American History for the (regressive) Progressive agenda. Then teach both creationism and evolution theories allowing the child to choose for himself and you have an angry Liberal educator.
Teach real American and world history and psychology with no agenda and Economics and you’ll raise Conservatives and Libertarians.
The Liberals altered true history, dropped economics and are trying to drop American history in a lot of schools. Sociology’s only purpose seems to be indoctrinating kids into believing that wealthy are evil, the white are privileged, and that the poor, the colored and women are victims of society and are therefore owed something for the suffering that happened in the past.
When I was younger, I loaded trucks. A black man from Egypt tried to sue the company. A lawyer called and asked me, “Did they make John Smith use the back door?”
Report Post »I said, “Yes, but they made all truck loaders and warehouse personnel use the backdoor.” He hung up on me; I guess that’s not what he wanted to hear.
My point? What company would want to hire blacks if they keep trying to sue for false racist claims? The laws mandating minorities have extra privileges are working against them. Companies will seek to avoid being sued of course. Unintended consequences

Why don’t you take your racist crap to a white supremist website? Here we believe that All men are created equal, it’s just that the lsm tends to glorify the blacks that fit their stereotypes and so the idiots are the ones who get the most press in politics. Jesus said “suffer the little children to come unto me.” He didn’t say, “White kids gather around, other races, go find someone of your own kind!”
He also said that “God so loved the world that world that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him, should not perish, but have Everlasting Life!” No saying any one race, (Or even nationality) but a clear {Fill in the blank with your name} word like Whosoever!
His terms of “Light” and “Darkness” refer to whether someone is following God or the evil one! That’s behavior and intentional beliefs of the heart and mind! DON’T FORGET, “FATHER, FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO!!!”
Stay away from those intentionly doing evil, but pray for them, and we’ll pray for your understanding!

A close friend’s son got his education degree at Ohio State, and was hired by a major TX school district to teach. I corresponded with him the year he lived in Houston, he started out excited, but in a short time disappointed. His class constantly changed with many students constantly moving. He spoke fluent Spanish, but said his elementary kids seldom stayed long enough to learn their names. He was responsible for putting hundreds of kids on the proper buses each afternoon and said the list was never the same 2 days in a row. By Christmas vacation, he was counting the days till the school year was over and praying somehow, one of his students who did stay a short time would actually learn something from his classes. This was over 10 yrs ago, so I don’t know if things have changed but for TX to do 40th out of 50, you must have some really awesome teachers somewhere!

I took my kids out of the public school more interested in “socializing” them and put them in a small faith based school for jr high. It didn’t have high school the yr my daughter would have been in so she went back to public school. All the guidance counselor could say was, “For her it worked very well.” She went in with testing, (so did her brother) they went from failing to testing out at the top of their classes. When she was interested in attending DeVry Institute I asked the recruiter if it hurt her chances, his reply,” Actually, we‘d rather have faith based or home schooled students because we don’t have to spend the time getting them up to our standards. They’re much better educated because their taught how to learn instead of just memorizing stuff!
