Egypt Sending in Troops to Secure Sinai Peninsula After Rocket Attack on Israeli City

The Egyptian government is scrambling to gain control over the Sinai Peninsula after Israel delivered a threatening message to the country in the wake of the recent rocket attack on the southern city of Eilat.

According to Egyptian officials, Israel intimated that if Egypt doesn’t gain control over the region soon, Israel will step in and do it for them.

The rockets which landed near Eilat likely originated in the Sinai Peninsula, which, though it is technically part of Egypt, has become something of a “no man’s land” since the Egyptian revolution.  In addition to the recent rocket attack, gas pipelines have also been sabotaged, and there are numerous reports of hostage-taking and kidnappings in the area.

Egypt denied all prior knowledge of the attack, but that didn’t please Israeli officials, according Haaretz.  According to the Israeli news site, Israel feels the Egyptian government needs to take responsibility for the region; its ignorance of dangerous activities is not a comforting or positive response.

However, Israel’s direct military intervention in the matter could spark massive unrest in Egypt, and threaten the stability of the Camp David peace accords.

Haaretz describes the situation:

[Despite] public backlash [in Egypt], the Egyptian Supreme Military Council is aware of its ineptitude in the Sinai, especially after Bedouin militias “conquered” two police stations in El-Arish and Sheikh Zuweid, and are not allowing Egyptian forces to monitor the trade taking place through tunnels between Sinai and the Gaza Strip.

The desert peninsula has become a gigantic weapons storage facility, the contents of which are available to anyone willing to pay the Bedouin a reasonable price.

Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal Ganzouri reported this month that at least 10 million illegal weapons, including heavy machine guns, submachine guns, rocket launchers and mortars have been smuggled into Egypt from Libya and Sudan since the beginning of the revolution…

The site concludes:

A scenario in which Israel would act on its own in the Sinai could turn the cooperation between the Bedouin and the terrorist organizations, and the tension between the Bedouin and the Egyptian government into a strategic threat, capable of destroying the peace agreement for which all are worried.

Egypt sent hundreds of troops into the Peninsula Saturday morning, though it remains to be seen what effect it will have.

    Israel does not need anyone to stand up for her, as God will. He may use the U.S., but it will be seen and known who God Is, Was and Will Be, when it happens. That might be why we have such a man in the White House as is, because it will be known that God IS the IAM. Not an imam, not a wishy-washy man who may be ineligible to sit as President in our country. Things are developing as the end-time scenario as much as any time that I have seen and had knowlege of. Israel has God’s protection and those who are against her are cursed.

    Israel has too many war fronts forming. They actually need a conflict to give them a reason to reduce the military capability of Bedouin, Hamas, Fatah, and Hezbollah before a conflict with Iran occurs. Going against all at one time would be too challenging.

      The situation continues to grow worse for Israel. They had a peaceful neighbor in Mabaruk, and a cautious adversary in Ghadafi, but both are gone now and the Muslim Brotherhood is taking over.

      I think we could well be seeing the final days of Israel as an independent nation. Another diaspora could be near.

      Before it goes, however, it could unleash its nuclear weapons and turn the Middle East into the starting gun for WWIII.

      It is spoken of in the Holy Bible and God will intervene. Israel is a land set aside for God’s chosen people and it has been spoken what will happen when they are surrounded on all sides.

    I’m sure things will play out even more and Israel will put their foot down once in for all. I would not doubt that it will happen in 2013. Enough is enough and it’s God will give the time to act!

    The time is coming and the days are marked already when these things will begin! The signs are all there!

    I can imagine someone who thinks they are going to be like God, have their own planet, have spirit children, believe they have no sin, wear magical underwear, believe they will go to heaven by doing good deeds and baptize the dead into thinking they will go to heaven. Yeah, these things are coming and more! I remember the Bible talking about how you will become like God if you eat of the fruit from the tree of knowledge, good and evil. A word to the wise that the signs are there! What is wrong with saying the truth?

    I wonder if he will also come riding on a donkey into Jerusalem just like Jesus did? Who knows?

    Israel has every right to defend it’s self! God Bless Israel. After things are said and done, Israel may be the only true Democracy standing. They will have twisted ours in every way to fit their need! Our constitution is fading fast with our rights becoming worth less!

      Seriously? If you are going to criticize mormons can you please at least get our doctrine straight?

      1.) We don’t believe that we have no sin, or that we will go to heaven because of our good deeds. Go to ANY Mormon church on any given sunday and they will tell you that it is only by the grace of Christ’s Atonement that our sins are washed away, but that Christ will not accept us and allow his suffering to apply to us unless we can show our sincerity. God hates hypocrites, and so people who verbally profess to follow Jesus, but dont follow through with their actions will be rejected by him as it says in Matt 7:23.

      2.) We don’t wear magic underwear….well, unless you would say that you put magic crosses on top of your churches and glue magic fish to your car and wear magic symbol decoder rings that have mysterious symbolism of WWJD on it. Its not magic, its symbolic and its there to remind us that we are a covenant people with God and under charge to obey his commandments. Its not secret, since anyone can learn about it. Its SACRED and not to be thrown at the feet of swine for them to then turn and trample us.

      3.) Eating of the fruit of the tree made us like Gods, “knowing good from evil” It gave us the capacity to know good from evil, just like God does, it did not make us into Gods. Do you deny your capacity to distinguish between good and evil?

      4.) We teach that you should prayerfully ask God if the Book of Mormon is true or not. Have you done that? If

      If not, please refrain from speaking about our Church as you have absolutely NO IDEA whether it is true or not. I know you will probably come back saying the Bible proves that our church is false. But you would be wrong. If we were to get into that argument, which I wont, a. becuase it would take more time than I can spend on an anonymous person from the internet, and b. because I have done it before and I know that it would lead no where unless your heart is open to potentially learning the truth. Anyways ,if we were to get into that argument you would find that every single scripture ever quoted to try to prove the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints wrong doesn’t prove anything, and in fact agrees 100% with our church doctrine. In the process you would find that most of the Mormon doctrine that you think is so horrible either isn’t even doctrine that we believe, or if it is, has been severely, intentionally, and dishonestly distorted by the people trying to make us look bad. Ive been in this argument many, many times. Trust me, just be quiet. You are doing Satan’s work when you attack another church. The only way that you can ascertain the truth is to ask God in prayer. If you havent done that SINCERELY about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, then shut your mouth.

    Israel will defend herself. Israel does not NEED America to help her do this.

    God is all Israel NEEDS to defend herself against her enemies.

    Helping Israel is not necessary, but should be looked on as a PRIVILEGE. To show God we are still a Christian Nation.

    I just hope the Egyptian military is there to stop agression against Israel and not for other ,more nefariuos reasons.
    I‘m also sure that Israel will keep a close eye on the hundreds of Egyptian troops on the other side of their border as they are well aware that the Egyptian government can’t be trusted.

    I will always stand with and support Israel.

      Indeed CatB, indeed, Israel will strike if she is driven into a corner; and they will show no hesitation or mercy against their attackers. The matter here though is that the Muslim Brotherhood is probably behind the attacks at the core, seeking to use the threat of Israeli intervention to gain more power by manipulation of events.

      Obama’s allies of the M Brotherhood must never be underestimated.
