Egyptian Coptic Christian and ‘Fourth-Class Citizen’ Describes Savage Massacre During Congressional Hearing

“I‘m a woman and I’m a Copt. I’m a fourth-class citizen in Egypt.”

That was among the many chilling revelations put forth in a testimony to Congress this week by Egyptian political activist Cynthia Farahat. The Coptic Christian and co-founder of the Liberal Egyptian Party, testified before the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in the House of Representatives, reliving the horrors of the massacre at Maspero and sharing her experience on the worsening plight of Christians under sharia law in Egypt.

Reps. Frank Wolf and James McDermott presented the hearing, “Under Threat: The Worsening Plight of Egypt’s Coptic Christians.”

According to the Center for Security Policy, the center that organized the hearings and brought this must-see video to The Blaze’s attention, describes Farahat’s political platform as advocating, ”secularism, human rights, capitalism, the rule of law, and rejection of pan-Arabism and Islamic imperialism.”

Below is a partial transcript of Farahat’s moving, and disturbing testimony before Congress. The video follows:

In 1971, President Sadat introduced shariah law to the constitution and now I think it’s, qualifies to say that Egypt is a constitutional theocracy and it’s not a modern state. The consequences were that Copts are no longer, according to shariah law, identified or defined as citizen. I have an Egyptian passport, but I’m not a citizen. The concept of citizenship is a Western concept that does not apply to us in Egypt. I‘m a woman and I’m a Copt. I’m a fourth-class citizen in Egypt. A first-class citizen in Egypt is the Sunni male, Muslim male. The second-class is the Sunni female. The third-class is the Coptic male. And fourth-class is the Coptic female.

And that’s why none of the people that committed crimes, none of the criminals that committed crimes against Copts were prosecuted in any way. Because it is against shariah law and that’s a fact. It’s not an opinion. To persecute someone for – a Muslim, for killing, raping, torturing, or vandalizing the property of a non-Muslim or a dhimmi. So this is our legal status. And this has been happening under the Mubarak’s so-called moderate regime, an ally of the West, and it’s now happening now. It was only inevitable that they take their radicalism a step further and start killing Copts in the street in front of TV cameras with live ammunition and running them over with armored military vehicles they probably got from the United States of America.

As a secular Muslim, Abdel-Fattah was a more serious target of the regime. Under the dictates of shariah, he is considered a traitor and apostate from Islam, and the appropriate punishment is death. Abdel-Fattah was at the protests in Maspero on behalf of equality for Copts. Outrageously, he might be facing murder and terrorism charges-as the regime is trying to frame the massacre of dozens of Copts in Maspero on him.

Michael Mosad was, like myself, a liberal Coptic political and human rights activist. I knew him well. He was one of the people killed by the Egyptian military at Maspero on 9 October 2011. He was at the protest with his fiancé, Vivian, and the newly engaged couple was terrified. Suddenly, she said she did not feel Michael’s hand in hers. She then saw him caught in the wheels of a military vehicle that drove onto the pavement and ran him over. His skull was fractured and his legs were nearly severed from his body. As she sat next to him crying and calling for help, soldiers gathered around Michael, brutally beating and kicking his motionless body. Vivian threw her body over his to protect him. She begged them to stop, but military officers beat and cursed her; they called her an infidel, “Christian sons of dogs,” and worse.

Later on, after describing other atrocities, Farahat states:

The Coptic Christians at Maspero were killed with live ammunition, and with weapons the military probably acquired through its average of $2 billion in annual military aid from the United States.  A massive shipment of 21 tons of tear gas was just sent to Egypt from the US before the elections.  These weapons are not used by the military against militant Islamists who are trying to subvert and destroy our country, institute shariah law, and inflame the broader Middle East; these weapons are used against the allies of the United States of America, the Copts and the secular moderate Muslims.

      Of course the never provide examples unless pressed and then take Paul out of context.
      The persecution of Christians has increased with the GOP foreign policy model.
      …as well as a democrat foreign policy..because the U.S. was no clue what the hell it is doing and our citizens are too stupid to know either. But we all have our opinions don’t we.

      Why is this not reported anywhere else? Well, Egypt got its “democracy” with the wonderful Muslim Brotherhood as a special add-on…. the Christians in Egypt have amazing bravery, and they should be commended for it.

      Since I’ve never heard about this anywhere else, I wonder who else has heard about it that might, o say, give Egyptian leaders a good talking to (hint, hint, now would be a really good time for Christian organizations, world peace movements, and the Vatican to say something…)

    Fact is, I support the Copts, but that’s where it ends. My country is going over a cliff.
    Let me put it this way: It’s probably not oh, crazy to think that our economy will implode sometime in the next year or less. I would suggest that we throw 100% of our efforts (ARE YOU LISTENING, CONGRESS?) towards stopping that or the very last thing you are going to be thinking about is the plight of the Coptic Christians.

      TRAVERS, the times we are facing have brought allot of us closer to God, and that is a good thing. Obama wants us to believe that he will defend the autrocities of the world but he fails to aid the Christians and the Jews. He is not a Christian , he has no compassion for human life other than his own , his family, and his fellow progressives. I have to wonder who he would be willing to throw under the bus to get what he wants. Perhaps his cronies if they get in the way or their usefullness has past, and even his family. He has a cold and empty aura surrounding him in spite of the well rehersed speeches and obvious training. You can see it when he becomes irritated and his lips are tightened and turn purple.     This woman’s storey is horrifying. Where is the media coverage about this? Christians are being killed everywhere that Muslims are dominant and they do it without any outrage from the so called civilized world.
    Why isn’t the wholesale murder of Christians at the hands of Muslims more important than the latest gaffe by a political candidate?
    Christians are being killed in the Middle East and in northern Africa simply because Muslims are allowed to kill them with impunity. In fact they are encouraged to by the Koran.
    With every new mosque, with every new Muslim immigrant, with every lawsuit brought by C.A.I.R. we in America come closer to Sharia law in this country.

    We are being overwhelmed with evil and Americans seem to be asleep to the dangers of the Islamic influence here. As I post this there are only 30 comments while the comments on the Ron Paul story is 337.

      My boss helped 2 Christian couples (and children) escape Egypt. There stories are horrifying. Anyone that has this perverted idea that Islam is peaceful, and a religion of love can’t possibly get any dumber.

      Some Muslims are different. But not enough of them are different to make for a peaceful world.

      I can‘t see the peaceful Muslims here taking a strong enough stand or have greater enough numbers that they don’t get swamped by the rabid. or that their children to get brainwashed by later Muslims immigrants. It doesn’t matter how we treat them. For now I believe in separation or it will not turn out well.

      Agree about the Left. They hate church-goers whom the Left thinks are “prejudiced, ignorant crackers and dumb Tea Party types . ” They are, as Turkey’s PM said , just “sharing the bus” with the other passengers – fanatical Muslims / European Anarchists / Western- America hater Groups until each “arrives at their stop.” Will be very sad when the Western , Lefties wake up and realizes that that their Muslim bus “buddies” also hate the them . And that they, Western Lefties, are the only ones left on a bomb- laden, conversion / suicidal bus. Amazing.

    So, are we going to allow Christia Copts to immigrate? Or what they believe in is probably too radical for the US Federal government? You know, freedom, liberty and personal responsibility?

    Nope, we have to allow more Muslims to immigrate here so we are more diverse with those that like to kill others that do not submit.

    Leftists and Muslims are both ideologies that do not allow others to have differing beliefs or opinions, that is why leftists and Muslims get along. They reinforce their own psychopathies. Now I am speaking generally of course, there are some leftists that do not want to force their crud on others, not many but a few. Same goes for Muslims. Even supposed moderates of both ideologies you can listen to them and you can hear the control they want to exert.

    Oh well, all will sort itself out in the end. Tell me folks in regards to the Muslim “religion”? Explain to me one thing, how is it that supposedly martyrs of the Muslim religion, will get 72 virgins in their so called heaven. Is that not a sexist, vile denigration of women? Is that not antithetical to what a normal human being would believe of the afterlife? The Muslim religion treats women as property in this life and the next.

    Yeah, sorry Beck, the Muslim religion is a 7th century cult created by a madman.

      “Oh well it’ll sort it itself in the end”…..the question is how many lives will it cost ? My lone is drawn when innocents are slaughtered simply for being different. Should we not send strong signals to these crazy Islamic Imperialists that such devolution will cary a hefty pricetag or should we back off and let them sort it out (like WWI and WWII before the inevitable incidents draged us all in) ?

      I can’t stand by (without saying something) and watch such evil allowed to happen since it does not directly effect our shores as of yet….trust me this collection of events has a global goal behind it. We will have to fight sooner or later. Fiught now and the world suffers less loss of life, fight later and the results could be in the multi millions of deaths. It’s a very tough call (for any President/Prime Minister etc).

      Oh boy, you really don’t get out much, do you? Leftists and Muslims only get along in the fevered brain of Glenn Beck. And Leftists are the one’s who fight for the rights of people to speak or vote or otherwise participate in political discourse. There are a fair number of Copts in the U.S. already. I’ve known some. They have a monastery out in the Mojave Desert of California, they like the climate. There are several communities across the U.S., I used to get their literature for years. Muslims make up 1% of the U.S. population. Why are you so afraid of them? I can learn to live with just about anybody, why are you so threatened? And why do you feel the need to control Muslims and Leftists?

      She showed you what it was like to live like a peasant to a lord. Who could do anything he wanted to you – Kick you like a dog, make you live in a garbage dump, burn down your shack, rape your daughter, kill you.
      This is the true face of Islam. Oh it’s all nice and soft and peaceful until it is in power, then the mask comes off and we see the monster. This is dimmitude – it is and always has been part of Islam. It’s written in the Qur’an.
      Islam does not belong in the USA. If you’re a Muslim, which I think you are, why don’t YOU convert to Christianity to stay here and be treated equally?

    My next door neighbors are Egyptian Coptic Christians – they shed the light of truth with stories that will make you sick. They still have family in Egypt who live in fear (but are trying to get out to come here) It is much worse than we know
