Egyptian Lawmaker Pushes to Legalize Female Genital Mutilation in the Name of Islam

Hot on the heels of Egyptian presidential candidate Mohammed Mursi’s declaration that “The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal…Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia,” Egyptian lawmakers are again making news, and none of it is promising.

According to the Egypt Independent, MP Nasser al-Shaker of the Salafi-led Nour Party is citing notable Islamic scholars in justifying female genital mutilation (FGM) as a part of the “prophetic” Sunnah (a holy work of Islam).

For those unfamiliar with Egyptian politics– the Salafi party is even more fundamentalist than the Muslim Brotherhood, and they control nearly 24% of Egypt’s parliament.  These are the people who try to live their lives in the example of the earliest Muslims, and their marks on the world include Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Regarding FGM, MP Shaker reportedly remarked that former first lady Suzanne Mubarak was the driving force behind banning it, and, as everyone is well aware, the Mubaraks are long since persona non grata in Egypt.

Randa Fakhr Eddin of the Cairo Coalition Against Female Genital Mutilation replied to Shaker’s statements, saying there is no consensus on the law by senior scholars or Islamists, and that it was rejected in the 1990s as being a cultural habit rather than a religious practice.

The rejection didn’t seem to have much influence, however, since it is not only ultra-conservative Salafis who are involved in the practice.

In fact, the whole issue began after the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party started a charity initiative in the city of Minya, where they were accused of performing the wicked deed (they deny the allegations).

Female genital mutilation is widely practiced in Egypt and Sudan, along with many other African countries.  While most Arab and Islamic countries technically view it as a crime, there is rarely any intervention in the matter–the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population conducted a study in 2003, where they reported that 94.6% of married women had undergone FGM, and 69.1% of those women agreed to have the procedure performed on their daughters.

The dangerous practice was outlawed in Egypt in 2007, after a 12-year old girl died as the result of the $9 procedure.  While it is sometimes performed by doctors, in the rural areas– where it is more often performed– a local midwife of barber can be called upon to operate.

      So, it is technically considered a crime….but basically, nothing is done about it. In other words, to soothe over the UN human rights activists who ignore human rights in favor of plant life, polar bears, and trading puffs of air–radical Islamists pass silly laws they never intend to enforce.       To answer the question; yes, that IS what democracy looks like. Democracy is tyranny of the majority. Put another way, it is two cats and a mouse deciding what to have for dinner. This country was designed by brilliant, divinely inspired men to be a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC. There is a vast and extremely important difference and the progressives (read “peaceful” communists) have labored hard for 100 years to brainwash the people into believing democracy is the ideal, and that it’s our form of government. Ever wonder why NO prominent politician schools the media and the public about the difference? Not even Ron Paul. It makes you wonder.

      Take this for what you will; when I was in high school, I had a very good teacher who escaped from East Germany at 14. He taught government and US History. One day he was going on about our “democracy”. At the end of class, he was with another student, so I wrote a quick note stating that, in fact, our govt. is a republic and dropped it on his desk. He stopped me and read the note. He told me that I was absolutely right, but he was not ALLOWED to teach that. Pretty frightening.

This so called “religion of peace” mutilates and diminishes their women to mere objects of distain, and our press applauds an Arab Spring. No clearer insight exists into their hatred for women than the example of Saudi Arabian firefighters refusing to open the school doors of a burning girl’s school – because the little girls didn’t have their heads covered. So of course they had to die. This religion wants to destroy the west and is learning how to use our laws to do it.

      @ TSUNAMI-22- Instead of being spoon fed a bunch of lies and regurgitating it as fact, why don’t you try cracking open a book and read it before you make a comment about Islam. I recommend a book called ‘A Basic Illustrated Guide to Understanding Islam’. Don’t worry, it comes complete with pictures, even you, will be able to understand it.

      surhan, is it written in Arabic? Do you read the koran in arabic? But I guess if someone told you, you had to learn Hebrew to understand the True Bible, my guess is you’d have an issue? SO what did Tsunamii say that was wrong that he needs to read to Understand islam 101? Jihad, Beheading of Enemies that don’t convert“people of the Good Book”? Then lets see the subservent wife, daughters, genital mutilations, killing of family, stonings, cutting off of hands and feet. Rape when you take spoils from the Infidel and others you take in combat, slavery; SO what did he say that wasn’t right and yet the Liberals seem to think this is OK? Do you think the Liberals that stand up for this CULT, really understand? Oh,I forgot the killing and infighting between muslim brothers, sisters, kids, imams, Grandparents, or do you think its ok to BLOW yourself up and others because your sect is right? And we don’t understand islam? Stick your head up your A_s! All muslims are the Same! Its funny prior to 2001 you hardly heard anythig about islam, all we hear about now is this F-ing CULT!
