Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood Cleric Orders Gaddafi Assassination

Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood Cleric Orders Gaddafi Assassination

Yusuf al-Qaradawi

Just days after returning to Egypt from exile and delivering a speech to tens of thousands in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, influential Muslim cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi announced Monday a fatwa for any able-bodied Libyan soldier to shoot and kill Libya’s embattled leader, Muamma Gaddafi.

“Whoever in the Libyan army is able to shoot a bullet at Mr. Gaddafi should do so,” Qaradawi announced Monday, “to rid Libya of him.”

Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood Cleric Orders Gaddafi AssassinationAs we’ve reported, Qaradawi commands an immense audience throughout the Middle East, thanks to his religious broadcasts on Al-Jazeera. In the past, he has defended “violence carried out by certain Muslims,” including Palestinian suicide attacks in Israel.

Additionally, Qaradawi urged Libyan soldiers “not to obey orders to strike at your own people,” as reports emerged military planes had received orders to fire on protesters calling for Gaddafi’s ouster. Libyan ambassadors around the world should dissociate themselves from Gaddafi’s regime as well, he added.

Qaradawi is widely considered to be the spiritual leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and leads the International Union for Muslim Scholars.

    The LSM has been saying that the Muslim Brotherhood is advocating democracy. I‘m sure they’re right. What could be more democratic than political assassination.

    Something tells me that Gaddafi is not long for this life.

    The best outcome at this point would be to see Libya’s army and the Muslim Brotherhood go toe-to-toe and kill each other off.

      There were times in old european history where christian leaders ordered the death of advesaries, and one pope even declared to have the absolute right to depose monarchs upon his own wishes if they did not follow the papacy completely in towing the line.

      Sorry, hit the reply button before finishing the post.

      Any religious leader can become corrupted with the lust of worldly power and authority; they then have little to no problems going down the road of darkness to where the murder of a rival and the calling for the assassinations of rival(s) is seen as a duty and a honor to their faith instead of the true evils they are.

      So then you are saying it is okay? I don’t know of many catholics who strap bombs on themselves and go blow up Italians in restaurants or at the outdoor markets, or christian schools. It seems to be much more prevalant that muslims, who specifically aren’t supposed to murder other muslims, are doing a bang up job of it.

      @Sparky

      No, it is not okay as murder is still murder, wheather commited first hand or called for by someone to have another to do; I use the reference of the past to show that any religious leader can succumb to the path of darkness to secure worldly power, and become so used to dealing with evil, they will give in to the desire to ‘make right with might’ in the means of imposing their own myopic views upon the world via violence and any means they need to use for it to happen, and often destroying themselves in the process.
