ElBaradei Calls Muslim Brotherhood ‘Threat’ a ‘Myth’ Pushed by Mubarak Regime

A good number of sage individuals watching the unrest in Egypt are concerned about the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood and what a surge of their influence or control could portend. Here’s Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI):
“The Egyptian demonstrations are not the equivalent of Iran’s 2009 Green Revolution. The Egyptian demonstrations are the reprise of Iran’s 1979 radical revolution.
“Thus, America must stand with her ally Egypt to preserve an imperfect government capable of reform; and prevent a tyrannical government capable of harm.
“For if Egypt is radicalized, all of the reforms sought by the Egyptian people and supported by the United States with them – including consensual and constitutional government; free elections; open and unbridled media; and Egyptian control of their natural resources – will be lost. Nascent democratic movements in the region will be co-opted and radicalized. The world‘s free and open access to the Suez Canal’s vital commercial shipping lanes will be choked. And the Sinai Accord between Egypt and Israel – which must be protected as the foundation and principal example for Mideast peace – will be shredded.
But to those who are suggesting that the fall of Mubarak would lead to the rise of a government dominated by Muslim Brotherhood thinking, the primary opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei has a simple answer — no way. But he is reaching out to include the, along with Egyptian Marxists, in a future government:
Transcript of FAREED ZAKARIA GPS via CNN:
ZAKARIA: Mohamed, one of the visions that haunts Americans is of the Iranian revolution, where a dictator, pro-American dictator, was replaced by an even worse regime that was even more anti-American and more threatening to the region. People worry about the Muslim Brotherhood. Are you confident that a post-Mubarak Egypt will not give rise to some kind of Islamic fundamentalist force that will undermine the democracy of Egypt?
ELBARADEI: I’m quite confident of that, Fareed. This is a myth that was sold by the Mubarak regime, that it’s either us, the ruthless dictators, or above (ph) them the al Qaida types.
You know, the Muslim Brotherhood has nothing to do with the Iranian model, has nothing to do with extremism, as we have seen it in Afghanistan and other places. The Muslim Brotherhood is a religiously conservative group. They are a minority in Egypt. They are not a majority of the Egyptian people, but they have a lot of credibility because all the other liberal parties have been smothered for 30 years.
They are in favor of a federalist (ph) state. They are in favor of a wording on the base of constitution that has red lines (ph) that every Egyptian has the same rights, same obligation, that the state in no way will be a state based on religion. And I have been reaching out to them. We need to include them. They are part of the Egyptian society, as much as the Marxist party here. I think this myth that has been perpetuated and sold by the regime has no – has no iota of reality.
As you know, Fareed, I’ve worked with Iranians, I’ve worked here. There is 100 percent difference between the two societies.
ZAKARIA: If there were a democratic government with Muslim Brotherhood participation, do you believe that Egypt would still be at peace with Israel?
ELBARADEI: Of course. I mean, I – again, the whole issue of peace in the Middle East is an issue which everybody – nobody wants to go to war, Fareed.

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 7:23pm“Freedom” for them means Islam, nothing but Islam.
For every ‘allahu akbar’ you hear from the protestors the talking heads in the western media hear nothing but “better life, freedom & democracy” and “OMG- 40% of these poor people have to live on $2 dollars a day”, (but if you give them $ 4 dollars a day they won’t stop shouting ‘Allahu akbar’,) and those who made it to the West where they settled behind -what they perceive to be enemy lines- they get free health care, free schools, welfare and what not, are they satisfied with a much higher income?
What happens then?
Do they stop shouting “Allahu akbar?”
I think not.
Most of the western talking heads in the ene-media were not even born during the Islamic revolution in Iran, they are clueless and naive. We’ll pay dearly for our ignorance…..

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 6:54pmWe know how this is going to go, if ‘democracy’ takes hold.
So many disparate factions demanding notice and power. So, a coalition government is set up. There will be a lot of infighting, until the most cohesive group takes final power. Likely, that will be the Islamists.
Their one uniting factor: disdain of Israel. It’s more than religious, including a matter of national pride after the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War. Even in this early stage of Egyptian revolt, Israel is a factor for many over there.
That’s how I see it. Time, alone, will tell. In any case, American libs will get to say one of three things, depending on the outcome. They’ll either say “I told you so”; or it’ll be “It’s no big deal, you anti-Moslem racist”; or “Imperialist Israel is fomenting hate and divisiveness.”
I wish I could forecast the stock market like I can picture a liberal response to any subject on the table. I’d make a financial killing!

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 6:53pmIsn’t this the same Elbardei who assured us 100% that Iran wasn’t pursuing nuclear weapons? And now he assures us 100% that the Muslim Brotherhood are not a threat, will back a democratic state, and wants peace with Israel. Yeah, right.
At this time, the Muslim Brotherhood are behind the protests in Jordan. They will patiently “partner” with Elbardei to form a new government and then take him out as they took out Sadat some 30 years ago for signing a peace treaty with Israel….yeah, sure the MB want peace with Israel.

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 8:08pmOf Course the Muslim Brotherhood is behind Democracy, they want it as cover to take over since the peoples are not as free to think as we in America are. They will follow their religious leaders to the death and they won‘t question if they are told to vote for the Brotherhood because they will reform the Government and not to what the people are wanting and if they get control of the Military then you can bet that War will come a short time later and if they do attack Israel then as they did in the ’73 Yom Kippur war they will loose the Sinai Desert and this time the Israeli Gov’t will not return it because they have seen how Hammas as developed from a Democratically elected political party into a terrorist regime firing rockets when they can into Southern Israel.

If we want democracy and freedom, we have to include them instead of marginalizing them.”

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 6:21pmThere is definitely a correlation between Obama and what is happening in Egypt. Obama has repeatedly sided with the Arabs against Israel and has sent multiple signals to them that he is on their side in pressuring Israel.
People who want ‘freedom’ don’t always want freedom for everyone. The Muslim Brotherhood wants to see Sharia Law all across the planet, and taking over Egypt is just one big step towards that end. ElBaradei is fooling too many people in the West into thinking he is a moderate. He is just sneaky.
Obama needs to get tough. Otherwise, Israel may end up having to take back the Sinai and also capture the Suez Canal. Terrorism will spread through Egypt to Israel and into Europe.
This is NOT a GOOD revolution.
