Elderly Man Goes Violently Berserk Over Man Pretending to Fart in Target Store

Jack Vale has pretended to pass gas in public before. Usually it leads others to weird looks and chuckles. But recently, it led one elderly man to punch Vale in the face — several times.

While pulling off one of his stunts at a local Target store recently, Vale chose two unsuspecting elderly shoppers as, well, targets. Using an electronic fart machine, Vale meandered over to the shoppers and made several unbecoming noises. After walking away, the elderly man took exception to the stunt (thinking it was real), got up out of his electronic scooter, and started looking for Vale. He eventually found him, and it didn’t end well:

As the video says, once the police arrived, Vale declined to press charges.

As an isolated incident – a prankster who got more than he bargained for and a person who felt very strongly that it wasn’t funny at all.

On a wider scale it seems there are more & more folks (on either “side”) living on a hair trigger. Situations large & small are being met with high levels of instant rage – verbal and/or physical. I think it indicates just how far out on the cliff our country is sitting.

I‘m afraid it won’t take much more for the final push into the abyss of a complete breakdown of society.

      I disagree, Midwestmom.

You are not seeing something new, you are seeing a return to something old; the expectation that people will conduct themselves with some degree of decorum in public places. Vale is part of the problem, and the elderly man who knocked his block off is part of the solution.

Vale represents the decay of society, and that old man represents Society’s defense. God bless that old man.

@SMITHCLAR3NC3 – He did WHAT in the wife’s face? Absolutely nothing! He squeezed a harmless toy in her vicinity. If it was truly a fart, I‘d salute the geezer’s chivalry. But, he punched the guy AFTER the toy was revealed and explained! Was Vale being a “good boy?” No. Probably not. But, the vigilante punishment certainly didn’t fit the crime. Give me a break!

This has been a lesson to me! Big time! I thought his phone call prank was hysterical. The one where he walks around the store talking about the stranger by him: “Yeah, she is looking at dog food! She is pulling the can off the shelf now. I wonder if she feeds it to her family?…” My wife sees no humor in it but my kids do. I have emulated it in Walmart, just to get a laugh out of my kids and not to where strangers could be offended or even realized what I was doing…

And I find something humorous in this prank also. It is funny from his side. But…I do not blame the old man at all, I would have done the same if someone did that to my wife or kids. It is rude and juvenile. The first time it was ignored. The second and third it was tolerated. But after continually doing this it HAS to be perceived as a challenge. How DARE someone do this?

Prank fail! This dude should think these things through a little better before he really gets hurt.

Violence in all categories is decreasing year over year. The Internet and the fact that everyone has a camera is what makes it seem to be happening more. I don’t think the old man was on edge at all. I think he saw a punk messing around with his wife. Good for the old man.

Are you that ignorant? It would be similar to a person having a toy gun pointing at you and having to wait for the first shot to prove it was or wasn’t real. In other words, being dead is to prove you were wrong. The real test is how a normal and reasonable person would react. His wife was targeted on purpose and the response was appropriate.

      – I agree. I apologize if my comment wasn’t clear. I am one of those people with the same expectations. I do believe people are fed up with bad manners (as they should be). But I also feel people are fed up with many, many things – large & small. My point was the response of “fighting back” in defense of society’s decay, on numerous levels, is accelerating…in general, we’ve been pushed to the breaking point.

And again, I did not comment one way or another on the right/wrong of the gentleman’s response.

@ – Fly Old Glory 24/7 365 – Exactly. The rising “not going to take it anymore” attitude toward the collective pile is becoming more & more evident every day. The amount of polarization, on every level, in this country is becoming wider & wider. Only time will tell if it’s a good thing or a bad thing…or a bit of both.

      MTRUBLU,
I don’t think the old man heard a word until long after he had hit the pankster in question. Looking at the video the old guy saw red after he saw a man purposely fart in his wifes face. The prankster targets a couple in wheelchairs because of their stature to his anus and their inability to true lash out. He didn’t count on there being one more fight in that old dog. And he didn’t count on the old guy hunting him down as he ran off at first. If my mother or father were in the same situation and someone farted in their face on purpose the beating I would be legendary. That being said the prankster didn’t press charges which was the stand up thing to do and in the end there was truely o harm and no foul. Maybe he use his humor and jokes on people in his generation that have similar taste. And not exploit seniors who simply want to live out their final years with a little dignity.

They would walk into the store just fine, sit down in one and drive it around for an hour (usually bumping into the displays and making us clean up the mess in the process) and then park it and walk out while carrying multiple bags of groceries by hand… no cane, no limp, no nothing.

That said, the young guy was a jackass. I have always hated “pranks” like that. Always hated Candid Camera too. Pranks among friends are one thing. They at least can know your intentions and call you on the carpet if you go too far. But doing this cr&p to strangers is rude and anti-social. It literally breaks down the social cohesion that makes civil society bearable. It proclaims that no respect needs to be given to others in public as long as no “harm” is done, ignoring the harm to the fabric of polite society, which once lost is hard to recover.

So, I’m rather glad the old guy decked him anyway. But, tut, tut, of course. ;-)

No, everyone does NOT do it on purpose. The sad thing about getting old is that muscles lose their elasticity and strength. The sphyncter is a muscle. As you get older it rests closed with much less tension so that only large quantities of gas or fecal matter trigger it to tighten up. Thus a small amount of gas can slip out before it even feels it, especially if any exercion is performed, like lifting something.

      Getting old sucks.

Wow, there just happened to be someone that was passing by to video the entire thing! How great is that?
It reminds me of the old “Candid Camera” show, where people where props for a TV pseudo “reality” show. Sometimes they ran into folks like the old guy, that climbed out of his motorized wheel chair and went hunting for the jokester, to teach him some manners.

It’s obvious to me, the old guy needs some sensitivity training, to handle “the younger generation’s idea of fun at your expense”, rights.

So, I’m glad the guy riding in the scooter had enough physical strength to walk around, find the guy, punch him the face and what not… I‘m not saying he’s a phony because he obviously looks like he has trouble walking. I just thought it was funny the way he shot up out of the chair and walked down the aisle, and then he followed the guy. On another note, since this guy is… well, a guy. I wonder if he’s ever farted around his wife. I mean they look like they‘ve been married for a while and you’re gonna tell me that in all those years he never let one squeak by while is wife was sitting next to him? He may be a perfect gentlemen and I could be wrong, but the odds are… not in his favor.

“You can‘t fart in my wife’s face! Only I can fart in her face!”

Dutch Oven. I forgot that term. That is relevant to the thread about two teens charged as sex offenders, as well. Guys do these things. Never having been married I’ve never gotten to the point where I could be confident to deliberately afflict a girl with a fart. Never broke the fart barrier, as my friend calls it. There is a certain level of intimacy required to do that.

Which is WHY of course, you don‘t fart in the face of another guy’s girl.

A person being a moron and childish does not mean you’re allowed to beat on them. Have some perspective. We have to return to our original American perspective, not devolve into hooting apes cheering all violence as long as we agree with the person doing it. Again, dad wisdom from Old School American dads – You never throw the first punch, but you always throw the last.

God how effeminate we’ve become as a people. Mindless violence in order to assuage hurt feelings. Egads.

He could explain his rudeness with my red face one inch from his! Once I figured out it was a prank I would have straightened him out on messing with others in such a way. But rudeness to others is unacceptable. In times past men killed and people died for far less. Do I want to go back to that? No. Absolutely not. @Troll

Don’t think so guy. The joker in this case deserved to be ejected from the store by the scruff of his neck, but there is not and has never been just cause in American society for throwing the first punch. The theory was, that a fellow be the bigger man and not start the fight. Am I the only one who grew up where you didn’t physically start a fight but you ended it? I seem to recall all kinds of parents teaching their kids that at one time, but maybe I was smoking something and didn’t realize it?

Defending your wife’s honor would have meant confronting the punk, and at best challenging him to throw the first punch or leave, not beating him down.

In the new America of course, I know that any slight or offense means that you get to beat the living crap out of somebody and get cheers and ovations. The first recourse, as Jesus taught (not) is not to turn the other cheek but to “put a boot in their ass!” It‘s why we’re able to go out and start wars now without being attacked first, you know, just to “show them”. Meh. I did grow up in a different universe. Oh well, a new reality eh?

Ah, I see what you’re saying Troll. I agree. There wasn’t a lot of right going on anywhere in this video, from either party. I do understand wanting to defend your wife, I do mine (hence why I conceal carry, I‘m my family’s security detail, lol). It’s my hope that we raise the bar again on first punches being thrown. Throw the disrespectful little punk and his fart machine to the curb and prohibit him from ever entering again, that‘s what I’d recommend. Eventually once he can’t enter any real stores to speak of, he’ll get the point.

I guess what I’m saying is that while the wimp-pendulum did swing too far until recently, it’s going too far the other way now. I prefer sense and liberty combined, self restraint in public and private, but the courage to stand like a man and fight back when struck. The Left with its “Just sit and take a beating because violence is always wrong” and the Right with its “Beat the living crap out of everything that moves even if it didn’t do anything to you but look at you sideways” seem out of synch with how I see the world.

Shoot for Aristotle‘s Mean and you’ll live the good life, is all I can advise. Works well for me. :)

Ghost, I see your point. Both were wrong, and the old guy lost control. But both weren’t equally wrong. The old guy‘s violence still defended something worth defending while the punk’s prank defended nothing worthwhil. If I have to choose one wrong over the other, tolerating stupid pranks or allowing violent retribution for them, I will always choose the violent retribution. That at least has Old Testament order behind it. If I can’t have Grace I will fight for the Law before I tolerate anarchy.

But I have to comment on something else you said:

“God how effeminate we’ve become as a people. Mindless violence in order to assuage hurt feelings.”

      Ghost, Jaycen wrote this above:

“Vale is part of the problem, and the elderly man who knocked his block off is part of the solution.”

At first I didn’t agree at all. But the more I think about it the more I think that is right. This punk wasn’t an isolated act. It is a growing trend of cultural disintegration. it is an act of cultural barbarism that must be stopped, and stopped hard.

You say an adult shouldn’t start a fight, only finish it. Damn right. But these punks are the ones who are starting the fight. Not recognizing their assault on public decency for the attack it is only cedes the battle to them. Who’s going to fight them? Not the law. It stands by and watches society go down the tubes. It is up to decent men to “law down the law” with these punks. But challenging the kid to throw the first punch is the typical liberal move which ignores the fact that such a move presumes honor in the opponent. These punks have no honor. They are lawless. How do you communicate with lawless individuals? Through simple force. Show them consequences. That’s how you deal with irrational children. It is how you have to deal with irrational adults.

This punk thought he could act without respect and suffer no consequences. Now he knows differently. Maybe next time he will think twice. But my money is on him needing another sock to the jaw or two. Here’s hoping another old geezer will rise to the challenge.

@Jefferson – the old man did let it go, the punk wouldn’t stop. The punk assumed the old man wouldn’t get him. The punk would not have done his joke any where near a 6′9 300lb dude. The punk picked his victim and pursued like a bully.
