Elizabeth Warren On Class Warfare: ‘There Is Nobody in This Country Who Got Rich On His Own’

Elizabeth Warren On Class Warfare: There Is Nobody in This Country Who Got Rich On His Own

Former White House financial reform adviser Elizabeth Warren, who is now seeking to challenge Republican Senator Scott Brown in Massachusetts, is definitely not shy in voicing her views on class warfare — or, according to Warren, the lack thereof.

In a recent appearance captured on video, Warren, who is perhaps best known for helping to launch the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, stated boldly that there is no such thing as class warfare and that there is “nobody in this country who got rich on his own.”

Below is a transcript of Warren’s remarks:

“I hear all this, you know, ‘Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever. No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own — nobody.

“You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police-forces and fire-forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory — and hire someone to protect against this — because of the work the rest of us did.

“Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless — keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

These statements certainly seem to keep in line with President Barack Obama’s reasons for proposing tax increases on America’s high income earners — especially given his recent assertion that he wears the charge of engaging in class warfare as a “badge of courage.”

Something we’ve been shouting from the rooftops for 15 years is finally, finally being carried now by the AP. The fact that the rich are paying more than their fair share of taxes. The information has been out there all these years, but until now has been covered up and ignored by the leftist media.

      Lesb packing hollow points….
Correct! Thank you. She is such a Marxist idiot, she just made the case that there is, indeed, class warfare. Everyone knows the people who create jobs, and therefore employ the people who make the economic engine turn, are paying more than their fair share in taxes.
Lets face it, she is an equal-results (Marxist) advocate.
Remember the failed communes of the 60′s? Why did they fail? Because the ones who worked had to support their utopia-loving comrades who did not.

She totally missed the point. Those roads she is talking about? The richest pay far more for those roads in front of your house than you do (maybe not Buffet but a lot do). And the fire department and police department? Yep the rich pay more for those services than you. Does she not understand that? Hello! And the schools your children go to, and the parks and the libraries – the rich pay more than you while you have the same access and enjoy the same benefits. I could go on, but basically the richest pay a lot more for all the benefits and protections you benefit from.

I get a little tired of you RINO Marxists happily being the recipients of the distribution of wealth to YOU! If you weren‘t so lazy you’d go out there and get a real job, or start a business that would bring in millions, or indeed billions. You can’t you say? Too hard? You sound just like the people getting food stamps that you abhor and feel so superior to. You’re happy to not pay your fair share, but you whine like babies at the thought that your taxes might benefit someone else, while you sit in your chair doing nothing to create jobs. At heart, you are Marxists.

GET A GRIP WOMAN. The factory builder paid the same taxes, were they tax free on the way to shipping those goods? NOPE. Another class warfare heifer who has decided that those who put the money in and take the risk owe someone else a large portion of it. That building that that rich person built. Did you know that when most of those buildings were built, the Democrats used a zoning law to REQUIRE him/her to build roads to that building – in some cases, widing the streets leading to that new road – or build a cloverleaf so the workers could easely enter/exit the interstate. The police – now we’re talking – I was waiting for an interview for a new division with a large software company, who had built many many buildings, when a man came back in and was complaining because he didn’t get the job and began threatening the employees (plus me and a couple of other people waiting) with a knife. The police were called. I ended up sitting on this guy for over a half hour before an officer showed up. (He hadn’t been trained to use a knife and one hit with my knuckles resulted in him not being able to hold much of anything in that hand.)

This lib has got to learn – they work for the people, not the other way around. This female should never work for the government again. Unless it is on a ranch in Nevada.

As for the rest of this wing-nut’s rant, she failed to mention that the rich guy with the factory paid far more in taxes than his employees who drove on the same roads to get to WORK.

Let’s continue her logic. So the roads, schools, police and firemen that Business uses come from us all (Government). What she doesn‘t seem to understand is that government has no money of it’s own. The money government has comes from businesses and the people businesses employ in the form of taxes.
These folks must be defeated once and for all. They are socialist. That’s fine but not here in the USA. That system has been proven to be a complete fail.

Such is the mind set of a woman whose pay/income/wealth comes from the confiscation of other peoples money through taxes. By getting on the inside, like the Pelosi reference by MIBUGNU2, to confiscate even more.
Why do you think politicians want to raise taxes? It diverts money from the private sector through the greedy hands of the politicians.
The worst enemy of a politician is someone making it on his or her own. The politician HAS to have dependents. The politician HAS to have divisions among people, this group against that group. Classes in other words.
Ask yourself who’s going to get any richer, who’s lot in life will improve when the rich have even more money confiscated from them? Yours or my pay going to go up? Prices are going to come down? Nope. Only people in political power will see that money and distribute it amongst their crony friends and only crumbs will get to the “people” to continue to buy their votes.
Remember: “socialism is for the people, not the socialists.”
      Politicians HATE your freedom.

Why am I always reminded of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountain Head when I hear these kinds of quotes. Both books had the “You don’t own it because someone else before you made it possible” motif, and Isn’t that exactly what Warren is saying? You need to pay more because someone else made it possible for you to do it?

Does anyone on the left understand that it wasnt someone inventing or paving roads or whatever that allows people to invent and develope better techonology and claim they “created” or got rich on their own. Its the ingenuity and determiniation that creates these things. Every idea every created is useless unless someone has the ingenutity and determination to make it work. People like Warren dont see that, infact, whether they realize it or not, they want to crush those characteristics because of some obsurd belief that everything belongs to everyone.

The government did not put their hands in the private business sector. If she lists what Bush did she needs to bring it up to date on what Obama has done, which is a lot worse than anything Bush has done. Half a truth is a lie.

…” the rich didn’t do it all by themselves.” No, they just worked their asses off, and as they grew, they payed more and more taxes, property taxes, taxes on income, taxes on business property, employee taxes, on inventory and on and on. The taxes they paid helped pay for the road she said others paid for,
for the schools that educate the people who work, and so on. The people who get money for sitting on their asses are the ones complaining about the rich not paying their fair share.
This woman is just another bitter, stupid, narrow minded lib.
For once, I wish someone who claims to be a lib and hates the rich, would be asked what kind of a country they want to live in when there are no rich, no factories, no work, just the government sorting it all out and given it away. Come on. Why don’t they understand that there is no money there until it is taken from the very people they hate.

How ironic an unwritten social contract. Bout like everything else these bigoted racist people come up with. Unwritten means what is written is what is agreed upon. If you don’t like it you are free to go do it for yourself. I don’t need or want this woman to speak for me. I can speak for myself. An employer offers me to work in exchange for what I agree upon if I don‘t like it I look elsewhere after that I don’t owe a business owner and he doesn’t owe me because an agreement was already reached. Not only that but I am not the person to benefit from a risk the owner has taken unless it is part of the compensation for my work. It is the owner to benefit from the risk not me or my neighbor or the government.just because a politician has to make a promise to get elected rather do be good at their job.what nonsense.

That’s a tautology. It’s functionally equivalent to saying “Nobody is able to trade on his own”.

And so what, right? You need people to trade with, but you only need to trade with people that actually have something to trade in return; and you don’t need to have a collective mentality in order to trade with people.

CollectivISM is not necessary for trading something, that is valuable to others, that you have produced; which is how people get wealthy.

Taxing based on income amount is discrimination. it is the same as taxing based on skin color, based on weight, based on age, or based on religion. It’s wrong to tax someone with $100 dollars more, a higher %, then taxing someone with $10. Government isn’t to decide who it sides with, Government is to treat us equal.

Our founders intended for us to be taxed apportioned and uniform. We were to be taxed equally. The PROGRESSIVE Income Tax Amendment voided the Founders apportioned and uniform and gave Government the power to tax however they want.

Someone needs to ask this woman and president Zero what the difference is in taxing by amount made and weight or skin color? We need to stand unified demanding we all are treated equal. Call out the discrimination. Stand in truth!

      viet,

The portions in quotes are from the article you posted.

“The 10 percent of households with the highest incomes pay more than half of all federal taxes. They pay more than 70 percent of federal income taxes, according to the Congressional Budget Office.”

They also own 70% of the countries wealth, so that stands to reason that they would pay more in taxes!

“This year, households making more than $1 million will pay an average of 29.1 percent of their income in federal taxes, including income taxes, payroll taxes and other taxes, according to the Tax Policy Center, a Washington think tank. ”

6% short of the top tax rate where they are supposed to be paying.

No matter how you slice it, it all boils back down to the fact that the middle and poorer classes spend a higher percentage of their salaries on living, and should receive more tax relief! The rich have enjoyed tax breaks and a lower tax rate for a long time, now the economy is in trouble and they act like bringing back the tax rates from the Clinton years is a travesty! They won’t be paying at that 39% tax rate anyway due to deductions, and loopholes! The middle class drives the economy. It’s hysterical to me to see so many brainwashed middle class cons fight the battle for the rich! LOL

Someone opens a business, hires some people to work for them, those working for the company or factory AGREE to pay terms and work requirements.
Owner should make a profit, since they are taking a risk to begin with. Some business owners even share ownership or stakes in the business with the employees! Yes they do!
If you choose to work for a business that does not do that, you don’t have a right to complain about it.
No one OWES anyone else anything in this life.
The ‘have’s‘ do not owe the ’have not‘s’…charity and generosity ideally would take care of alot of problems for the ‘have not’s’. But no one is obligated to give, somehow the government has decided it will force the ‘have’s’ to give. It is WRONG!!

“To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.”

“God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty…. And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”

People like this nutty lady, should be grateful to those wealthy bosses who hire the workforce – who then pay the taxes – that pay her salary.

As far as the $1T that she blames on Bush (who spent more than we’d like) – she needs to get her facts straight. It was the Democratics (especially her wonderful president – then senator who voted for all the mess) who ran the house & senate those last two years (when my 401K plummeted). Further, most businesses and corporations give huge sums of money every year for the betterment of their communities. My state, which suffered bigtime property losses due to the spring and summer flooding received beaucoup money from the Corporations operating in the state. In fact, the telethon I watched, Halliburton gave the largest amount. One wingnut above (gawd for ignorance) is apparently used to propagandizing to the Choir, but it doesn’t work here, mentioned inherited money as if that’s where it all comes from (it just landed out of the sky to the orginal aquirers of the money anyway). Trying to pick up where the propagandist Warren left off. And while a small amount of the evil rich owe part of their wealth to inheritance, they are a small minority today. Not that the democraps haven’t strived hard over the years to rob these people (all families actually), via the Estate Tax.

I do not need to defend the wealthy, and do not really want to be wealthy myslef. Not all are capable of handling the big money. I have enough handling what i make. I learned long ago, if I do as I am supposed to, and pay my tithe, I end up find in the end. My Bible tells me that I will not go without food or clothes, and I have a whole lot more than just food and clothes, that makes me rich in my opinion.

I do not want “my share” of money I did not earn. If the rich man earned it, he can keep it. Being military, my pay check comes from the tax payers. that being said, I provide a service for you and the rest of those that pay taxes, and those that do not.

there is a need for taxes, and I would prefer that we all pay the same rate or a flat tax. I want highways, schools in the hands of the local and state gov, a strong military. I will provide my own healthcare, and if someone in my familys is in need, I help them. I do not want a gov system that rewards lazy behavior and imorality.

As a marxist, which Warren certainly is, all non government jobs are illegitimate, the opposite of the Constitutional viewpoint of jobs (limited government). Thats why she doesn’t recognize the jobs produced by the businesses (factories) she is demonizing. When she says “the rest of us are providing”, most of “the rest of us” she’s talking about are getting the money enabling them to pay their taxes to support roads, education, etc., from jobs created by those very factories, businesses, corporations, etc., that she has so much antipathy for. Marxists want complete government usurpation of the private sector. If left to their own devices (if there was no oppositional republican party, or freedom loving citizens to withstrain them) they would nationalize every job in the country. That is their utopia. This is why they have such utter disdain for the private sector. This disdain for the private sector and capitalism is so intrinsic to their pathos that they can’t disguise it when speaking on the subject of economy, jobs, corporations, etc. Class warfare is as natural to them as breathing.

The problem is that those on the left think that the government allows you to keep as much of your money as you do. They believe that the money belongs to the government and you get to keep what they don’t need or feel like should be used in the way that they see fit. Do we needs taxes? Absolutely. The truth of the matter is that we allow them to take our money. It’s not they who allow us to keep it. In return for our money, they should ONLY provide necessities (security, settling state disputes, military and vet spending, etc.) Making sure an American citizen doesn’t starve? Yes, that’s money well spent. Making sure to buy someones food so that they can have internet and a computer? No, that is not money well spent, because it isn’t providing for a true need. My mother used to say that there is a difference between needs and wants and as long as I was alive I wouldn’t have to worry about needs. She would provide at whatever sacrifice because I was her child, but getting my wants was up to me. She gave me what I needed on both accounts. Just my two cents…

Let us not forget that, at her level in our Federal government, she was probably making $160,000 or so–easy money, paycheck guaranteed! I make about $24,000 and, frankly, it doesn’t quite pay the bills! To add me to his healthcare, My employer would have to pay another $18,000, yet I pay only $3,600 for my high-limit health insurance, plus all expenses for the first $3,000, so maybe $6,600 a year for ‘equivalence’! Last week, I had to work 14 hours on a Saturday to make my employer’s firm look good and get the job done–it just worked out that way! On Monday, two hours into my day, I was laid off for the rest of the day because of the Saturday ovetime! Okay, my boss is a little immature, wet behind the ears, running on inherited/family money! So what! He provides jobs for about 12 people, jobs that wouldn‘t be there if he hadn’t been born with a silver spoon in his mouth! Do I envy him? No! Should he pay more taxes? Probably not! Am I grateful to have ‘a job’ so that I can put food in my mouth? Yes! By the way, for every $1 I earn over $14,000, I have to return 50-cents to Social Security, AND for those months in which I have to do so, my son forfeits 1/2 my F.R.A. benefit, AND I have to pay tax on my ‘earnings’! Frankly, I think the $24,000 would make ends meet if it weren’t that I have to give back $1,500 for every $1,200 I make in those months AND I have to pay taxes on the $1,200, say about $180! So, it COSTS ME $480 more than I make each month

ummm…let’s see. I don’t know the exact number, but I think it is like HALF of America doesn’t pay a damn dime in taxes because they get a big fat whopping tax return at the end of the year that nullifies anything they may have paid through gas tax, fed tax, food tax, etc. That included me up to a few years ago. Therefore, not only is the factory owner PAYING for HIS (I like how she mentions only the masculine form when she says “gets rich” part) factory, but HE is also paying for the road to his factory and then the food for the person without a job and for everything else. Mrs. Warren, cut the class warfare CRAP. Please, for my sake and the rest of us who have brains to think for ourselves.

Actually Lizzy….we wouldn’t have high growth in infrastructure and education without the growth of bussiness. The amounts of money corporations, businessmen and high earners pay in taxes allow that type of growth to take place. This is plain history, not speculation. They also pay taxes that keep those schools open that “educate” those children (we’ll ignore private schools for now). Additionally, the investor with free capital buys municipal bonds and notes. These fund airports, roads, hospitals, libraries, schools…the list is very large. Try keeping those going without the investor Lizzy.
Furthermore Lizzy…those same corporations and higher earners pay the salaries of the workers who use those roads to go to work. Keep their homes, possessions and lives protected with police and fire agencies mostly paid for by the most productive sector. All because business pays a lot more dollars in taxes and pays the salaries of the rest who pay into the system. No entrepeneurship and risk? No taxes, no jobs, no salaries, no cops, no firemen, no schools, no roads. Think I’m kidding Lizzy? Look at all the laid off government workers in various states because the state has gone broke paying excessive benefits to government workers while business flees the state. No money around Lizzy. Just print some right?
So Lizzy…those cops, fireman, schools and roads don’t get, paid, supplied, clothed, housed, built and maintained on their own, someone pays for them.

Oddly, the factory builder ALSO paid as much (or more) in taxes as everyone else, and all those public services while they do contribute to the factory-builder, also educate and protect everyone else…

When the factory-builder takes a risk, puts his own money on the table and makes something out of what is around him, you say everyone should share in the success (pay it back), but if the community is truly a partner in the factory-building endeavor, will the community make the risk-taking factory-builder whole, or is it a one-way relationship?
