Posted on October 27, 2010 at 1:31amUnions are a machine of the past. They are trying to be relevant in today’s world, but have found that the only way they can stay in business is to be a part of the thuggery of the past. They use union dues to support candidates that support them and do not allow the members to use their money to support candidates of their choice. They say that you can request that money be sent to your candidate, but in all the years I was forced to be in a union, I never had one union official prove that they gave money to a conservative candidate of my choice. They are theives and robbers and should be outlawed.

Posted on October 27, 2010 at 1:13amUnions used to be a good thing when it was common practice to work people insane hours at slave wages. Those conditions simply do not exist anymore and unions have morphed from fair labor practices organizations into exploit the emplyer enterprises. Couple that with the fact that the vast majority of unions these days represent workers at government run entities and the taxpayers become the employer and the ones being exploited.
Some things that resulted from the unions are utterly disasterous for our economy. Skyrocketing minimum wages, unsustainable pensions, tenured employees being impossible to fire, government bailouts, the list goes on and on.
When I went to work for the first time during high school the minimum wage in Illinois was $4.85/hr, It is now just under $9/hr. That is insane and unsustainable. Businesses will simply move out of state or out of the country. They aren’t going to operate at a loss in order to quench the thirst of lunatics for a communist utopia.

Posted on October 27, 2010 at 12:00amThis is perhaps one of the most vivid examples I’ve seen of the corruption of the left and the unions. It is just pathetic to see how these people who are supposed to be teaching the next generation of Americans partying and acting like a bunch of drunk college kids and at a leadership conference to top it off. I hope Christie does break out the whipping stick soon and gives them a lesson in corporal punishment since it is obviously sorely needed here.

Overwhelm the polling places with live bodies and keep records of who you took to vote. Things will look odd if the Dem wins and more people voted than you have registered voters. If you have a record of who and how and when of the people brought to the polling places, you have the proof, the Dems do not! You win, Dems lose.

1. as a teacher, by joing the union is the only way I am afforded the right to be active in contract negotiations within my district.
2. there are many conservative teachers that are part of the union that are very effective at their craft, and I wish all teachers didnt get a bad wrap for this whole socialist-union mess!!
3. just today someone I spoke with was very vsuprised that I was a teacher and was also a conservative; WHY??????

That’s the real tragedy.
Tenure is an archaic tradition that once had its place to protect “academic freedom,” but no more. Tenure only provides license for continued fraud, corruption, and laziness. Most importantly, it continues to shortchange our children of the very best education–and educators–possible. Their should be no tenure allowed and contracts for employment should be on an individual basis and not collective. That will finally separate the wh

I mean I know teachers who are still teaching after 35+ years, and retirement, and are no longer effective, but it’s not due to tenure. It’s due to the fact that a public school district can hire a retired teacher for less than they can hired a new teacher at year 0 experience.
You want to talk about not getting a quality candidate pool for the very few job opening that do occur, well then here ya go!!!!
Our entire eduational system needs a complete overhaul and it must start with taking the feds out of what should be a school district controlled by it local Board of Ed. But then that’s a whole other “can of worms!!!!!”

I have a B.S. in Education and a few years ago was halfway through my M.Ed. when I said “I want nothing to do with this system,” and changed my graduate degree plan. All my classes were filled with teacher’s, 99% of which were liberals and couldn’t stand my viewpoints. I was outnumbered and I am still dumbfounded by their attitudes. The things they used to say about their students was unbelievable. Admittedly, it was clear in my research and interviews that administrators were largely to blame, to include the elitist school boards themselves. The waste, abuse, and overt fraud is astounding.

What does a union do for you that WE–the other hard working NON-UNION Americans–do for ourselves day in and day out without the help of any union? Can you answer me that? Non-union workers far outnumber union membership rolls and we seem to do just fine for ourselves. Why can’t you?

My father was a Union Steward for Teamsters Local 41 for 20+ years and he spent the majority of his time negotiating with union reps to reinstate workers who were let go for outrageous things like drinking on the job, wrecking equipment while intoxicated, stealing or fudging documents, being caught using drugs while on the clock, fighting with company foremen, etc. My father dragged me along to the union hall many times, thinking I would learn something for the exposure.
My father always told his men, or his guys, as he called them… don’t ever quit your job, don’t ever resign, because then I cannot get your job back. But if you do something bad, something stupid, and get fired, come and see me. I can always get your job back. And he was so proud of that. I would say to him, but Dad, don’t you see how unfair that is to you, and all the other guys that bust their ass, day in and day out, just to get some bum his job back. And he would always come back with some excuse like — he’s having trouble at home, or he’s got seven kids to feed, or he‘s been with the company for 20 years and he’s earned his way. It just doesn’t make any sense.

Anyone who claims to revere the Constitution or the sincerely-held beliefs of the vast majority of Americans, and then contradicts this stance by cherry-picking the Constitution and/or by marginalizing/intimidating/belittling Americans with legitimate concerns about these issues, is either remarkably clueless or disingenuous. Posted on October 26, 2010 at 11:10pmMy Union story…
This is a true story. Many years ago I worked in a Union for restaurant workers. It was so long ago I forget the name of the Union. At the time I was working as a Cook at a very fancy resort owned by Playboy. Our union contract was up for renewal. The union leaders made a sweet, but illegal deal, with management that caused the union reps go out and all buy brand new Cadillacs. Here’s how… This resort had 6 different food outlets open every night, with 2 extra on the weekends, that does not include the Conventions kitchens. As you can imagine, we had a lot of cooks. Heck, at one time we had almost 200 dishwashers from central america, but that’s another story.
Our Union had said that the employer had to help replenish the salt loss we cooks would experience on a nightly basis, especially in the summer months. If you have ever worked in a crowded and busy kitchen without air-conditioning you know what I’m talking about (talk about sweating). Well someone came up with a brilliant idea about the salt loss and it worked. Usually employers in this situation would put up first aid type stations in each kitchen that contained a large bottle of salt tablets, and that was supposed to be their fix. Probably would have worked if anyone took any of them… I digress. We had the union reps set up a meeting after work at a local bar whereby they only invited the cooks (everyone that worked at the resort was in this same union but for many different reasons we cooks held the power, sort of). At this meeting they bought us many many beers, then came the sales pitch. They offered each cook 3 beers per night to replace the salt tablets for the salt loss problem. We fell for it. All we had to do is help them to get the rest of the employees to take a much lower raise than what the union had first proposed. We did as we were conned into doing and we got 3 beers as promised every night. It was a nightly scene of epic comedic proportions. Early in the evening the executive chef would come around to each food kitchen with a beer cart and hand out 3 beers, cheap nasty tasting squirrel pee (Shaefer or Iron City Beer), to each cook. We would then hide the cheap beers in the back of our coolers, then waited for the bartenders to come by and make deals. Six Michelobs got a bartender our best T-Bone, and it scaled down from there. We ALWAYS poured our beer into clear glass goblets so if anyone came walking by nothing looked out of the ordinary. We always kept them in-sight, but hid the empty bottles of the good beer at the bottom of trash cans. As the night wore on we got drunker until we could finally polish off the 3 cheap beers. By then we didn’t care about the taste. The excutive chef was a guy from France and every night he was amazed that 3 beers could get we Americans so darned drunk. Little did he know.
That resort had to close (sold to another company later) because it was losing about $250,000 per month. Gee, I wonder why?!
