Emilio Estevez Takes Jab at Hollywood: ‘I’m Embarrassed By What I See’

Emilio Estevez, son of legendary actor and long-time left-wing activist Martin Sheen, took an unexpected jab at Hollywood Friday when he stated that he is “embarrassed” by the content he sees in many of the industry’s films. The actor appeared on Laura Ingraham’s radio show to promote his upcoming film, “The Way,“ which Estevez states is a ”celebration of family and faith and community and healing and our humanity.”
“I go to so many films and I’m embarrassed by what I see,” Estevez stated.
“And, you know, Hollywood is responsible for those themes and those messages that they’re projecting out there for not only Americans to see, but the rest of the world. It’s one of our last great exports, is our popular culture. And it‘s just that there’s so much of it that is negative and anti, and this is a movie that’s not anti anything. This is all inclusive.”
He added:
“And it’s, you know, there’s no CGI, there’s no explosions, there’s no vulgarity, there’s no overt sexuality. There’s a ton of humor, and none of it is raunchy. So, this movie is really a reflection of the path that I’m walking on.”
Below is a synopsis of The Way:
Martin Sheen plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to St. Jean Pied de Port, France to collect the remains of his adult son (played by Emilio Estevez), killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage to honor his son’s desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn’t plan on is the profound impact the journey will have on him and his “California Bubble Life.”

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 10:09pmKudos to Emiliio……While taking moral path in Hollywood may seem to be the unpopular way to go, at least he will end up with a clean soul at the end of the day, by not lowering himself into the cesspool that is the left-wing, Hollywood elites.

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 9:01amI don’t know about his “Activist” Dad but appears Mr. Estevez is following the path of: “If you‘re not Liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you‘re not Conservative when you’re 35, you have no brain.”

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 10:18amCOURAGEOUS was an excellent movie!!
Report Post »As for this one, smacks of pandering to conservatives.
I’ll need a track record of “wholesome” films from Emilio or Martin before I buy this bit claiming not to be a part of the liberal trash generator called Hollywood.
I’ll still go see the movie, it might be good. Plus, I’ll be speaking with my money re: what type of movies I want to see!
Personally, I’ve had my fill of CGI/special effects for a while. They all look the same.
IMHO, even the best CG today doesn’t look as good as the original Star Wars did with its scale models. You just don’t get that level of reality and variations/imperfections with CGI. When you CALCULATE texture or shading or lighting, it is too “perfect” to look REAL. Analog is the only way to achieve that level of reality.
On the other hand, today I am all about developing social websites, news content/educational content, and delivery/UI software for iPads, tablets, smart phones, and other portable devices.
The future ROCKS! Just don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 11:26amYea, well you don’t have to pay for it, either. It’s only your “work” that demonstrates your product is garbage. How stupid do Americans have to be to want to pay to go see it?

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 9:22pmIt’s nice to hear this. I remember when the German film “Das Boot” came out (I had it on RCA CED Video Disc!) and it was full of the F-word, etc. But when we got it later on either VHS or DVD ( both, I forget which was better) it was obviously CLEANED UP! Not sanitized, but the English translation was definitely moved from the Rated X to at least a Rated R or PG-13. My wife and I will get a DVD, watch it, and then SO MANY times we mention to each other that the movie was great BUT: Why is it that Hollywierd has to inject so much gratuitous, blatant profanity? It’s like, there are some movies with merit that are getting sabotaged by the nasty dialogue when just cleaning it up would make it something the whole family could see and appreciate. Hollywierd: Clean up the language! Knock off the gratuitous sex scenes! They add NOTHING to the story! ‘Nuff said.

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 9:20pmEmilio! Where have you been Billy the Kid?(Young Guns I and II) for those of you born after 1988.One of the Sheen kids had to come out with common sense and sober. My favorite Brat Packer is speaking the truth and probably broke out of the bubble long ago without anyone noticing. He didn’t spiral down and out of control. Demi made the mistake of her life breaking up with man.Hollywood lost my money a decade ago. I’ve only seen 2-5 films that I paid to see because of the crap that floods the film industry, Emilio needs to help change that. He’s talented and I would love to see him in another Western or directing more family films. Missed you Emilio!!!

Uh, that’s not Alec Baldwin who is a conservative, it’s his brother Stephen Baldwin.
(Unless Alec’s had a change of heart… which I rather doubt.)
And, there ARE others in Hollywood who are conservative. They just don’t get much press… not to mention that a lot of them don’t want to make their views known or they could be black-listed.
There IS going to come a time, though, and maybe in the not too distant future, when everybody is going to have to choose sides. Publicly. The left is going to see to that.
