Environmentalists Complain Palin Gets ‘Too Close’ To Bears in Filming TV Show

It’s official. Some people will complain about anything when it comes to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The latest complaint comes from environmentalists who are criticizing Palin’s new television special, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” airing this evening on TLC.

Environmentalists in Alaska are now condemning what they describe as Palin’s “flagrant irresponsibility by fishing too close to protected brown bears.” The Guardian reports:

John Toppenberg, director of the Alaska Wildlife Alliance, said scenes in an online trailer for the programme appeared to show the former Republican vice-presidential candidate breaking the rules of Wolverine Creek, a famous spot where bears – and humans – come to fish. “It’s clear from the video that she violated the guidelines,” he said, calling her actions “a travesty”.

Large brown bears gather in Wolverine Creek because the fishing is so easy and the animals have, in the process, become a tourist spectacle. But Toppenberg warned that by behaving in an apparently irreverent manner, Palin was doing nothing to foster responsibility among visitors. “She is encouraging the violation of important guidelines that allows tourism to flourish in Alaska. She is inviting future problems with the tourism industry and, in particular, the bear-viewing industry,” he said.

On the contrary, I‘m thinking Palin’s outreach to the nation from Alaska, presenting the beautiful state, will do quite a lot to help the “bear-viewing industry” and Alaska’s tourism industry in general.

The preview clip also shows a bear jumping into the river near the Palins. Palin recalls dramatically to camera later: “So I’m thinking we are going to get stuck there, the anchor is dropped and there is a bear coming towards us.”

But this enraged Toppenberg. “She implies that she is somehow in danger or being brave. That’s complete nonsense,” he said. “Wolverine Creek is the one place in Alaska where the bears are tolerant and completely habituated to the presence of people and boats. But the guidelines are there for a reason.”

For being an “environmentalist,” Toppenberg seems blissfully unaware of how dangerous bears are.  Further, if Palin hadn’t have reacted with a bit of fear (which all humans should around bears, mind you), I predict Toppenberg would then complain that the former governor was putting people in danger by not warning them of how dangerous bears are.  If Toppenberg thinks wild bears are so “habituated,” let him be the first to approach one without fear.

Seriously, Palin can’t win with these people.

Fortunately for the rest of us, she doesn’t seem to care.

All I can say is… I’m glad we went on our Alaskan cruise this year before this special. My prediction is that Alaska is going to be overrun by tourists this coming summer. That is, of course, if they choose to endure the TSA idiocy at the airports.

It’s always amazing to see the double standard.

Let’s talk about “too close”. A video clip of a team of scientists in Canada that were replacing the radio batteries on bears made its way around the Internet last week. One of the guys was handled a shovel to keep the mama bear (yeah, a mama bear with newborn cubs) in her lair while they drugged her. The team members were actually handling the newborns (admittedly cuter than all get out) but I wondered about whether or not some fool will try to do the same thing. I guess that was okay because this was all being filmed for some animal show.

Now, then, Sarah Palin. We’re not talking Steve Irwin here (bless his heart), we’re talking about a long time Alaskan resident. Of course, it is a basic assumption that anything she does is wrong. T If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

Note to the Environs and the Dems. It’s time to get a life.

Park Service rangers, in any park home to to bears, warns everyone not get close. Bears are at the top of the food chain and fear no other creatures including humans. Unless you have a gun pointed at the bear that attacks you, you’re dead. You can’t outrun them, you can’t outsmart them. Bears are awesome, fearsome creatures.

Didn’t watch the video. But if Palin gave the idea it’s safe to be close to bears (if you’re tough), I don’t blame the Park Service for objecting. Bears kill people. This isn’t Disneyland.

When the premise is false the only arguments that can be used are fear mongering, emotion, sarcasm, ridicule, attacking the messenger and misrepresentation of the facts (lying). Those who expect to reap huge profits from our misery caused tyranny are experts at these tactics.

The only relevant issue is freedom or tyranny!!!!

(Ever hear the old saying “Armed for bear”) Anyone can carry a concealed weapon in Alaska. Guns normally accompany the fishing pole for safety. For bear protection, probably a .50 cal. The only warning that needs to be given regarding the Palin video is “Idiots should stay away from Alaska” (and that is why the commie Dems are an endangered species in Alaska).

      Modern Environmentalism vs. Palin

To properly view this issue, we’ll have to look at the real tragedy of the matter found in the history of environmentalism, that it is highly corrupt. In that, there’s the knowledge that it’s not just Al Gore’s doing. Gore merely took such issues as “acid rain” and “deforestation,” two of the primary building blocks of modern environmentalism’s corruptions, and helped in the evolution toward the primary purposes of it, as in political and personal monetary gains. Translation: Power; and lots of it.

The faux environmentalists that emerged out of the seventies run parallel with the spread of liberalism. And to properly understand that, you have to know that liberals hijacked the benevolence of environmentalism to grow their liberal political movement.

As environmentalism became dominated by liberalism late in the seventies, and then full bore after the destruction to the image of the Democratic Party that Jimmy Carter, with his ideological incompetence orchestrated, it gained greater political influence and power through such organizations as the Sierra Club. Organizations such as they built their modern business plans on a foundation of corruptions and manipulations that are otherwise known as propaganda which they very much aimed at our youth. An argument could be made that it was environmentalism that was first used get inside the developing and emotive sides of children’s minds all for the purposes of molding and shaping a youth, a future population that is highly anti-capitalist and forever pro-Democrat. Much of our youth, that are now grown and of voting age, have been duped into embracing hatred for big business, Republicans and Conservatism as a result.

If we go back and look at the rise of environmentalism in American politics, of how it affected industry and industrialization, we will also see great similarities in their missions to gain power and influence to that of unions. Like unions, their real and original utility ran its course as many of their missions have been accomplished; yet, their quests for power have never subsided as political dominance at whatever cost became the blinding end game; which is not so coincidental when you consider that is the exact same mission as liberalism in general: dominance and the abuse of power, influence over people’s lives.

Now we are not to watch Sarah Palin because she is bad for the environment all the while she is promoting the “wise use of natural resources.” The “wise use of natural resources” by the way was one of modern environmentalism’s first catch phrases to garner widespread awareness of environmental issues. But notice that the “wise use” has turned into no use, no oil exploration, no drilling, no coal, no industrialization, no growth . . . No Sarah Palin . . . no US.

“They will complain about her getting too close to bears but not the one getting too close to her that moved in next door. Priceless.”

Best point of all. Their bias ought to be shoved in their faces every time they gripe about the bears. You KNOW they had their flying monkeys watching this show, just LOOKING FOR something to complain about…normal ******** would have watched it for any other reason.

sooooo….it’s ok for some eco-freak to LIVE with bears…most at arms length, be stupid and get his and his girlfriends’ ass killed but not to have a bear in the background of a tv show? Ithink ALL tree huggers and nature nazi’s SHOULD go out there and “protect” those poor, defenseless bears and help feed them over the winter…..

      SavvyCowboy,

Gotta disagree on the taste of Bear. It drips grease as you eat it and it gives you a sickening feeling as it goes down. Of course this is my personal opinion here, but I would have to be real desperate for food before I eat Bear ever again.

Look these weasels had no problem with Timmothy Treadwell making a point of getting as close as he could for a full decade. As a matter of fact they immortalized him as a martyr for “environmentalism” when the bears finally had enough of his BS and ate him and his girl friend.

Again, in Yellowstone people get this close, Yosemite, also has a considerable population in very close proximity to bears. Lake Tahoe and countless other communities have bears wandering in and around them. Anchorage is another one. But even in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and several others have major bear problems right inside towns.

This problem isn’t being addressed with any effectiveness or aggression and no real plan has come to the fore front to deal with it. If people are outdoors wildlife will be encountered. In my neck of the woods ‘camp robber’ birds attack people. Should people be required to stay indoors?

Idiots need to be called idiots. Stupid can not rule the day. Period. And this attack on Palin is just that, stupid.

This self-appointed bear expert and all of the other enviro-elites piss me off to no end. They do more to restrict access and set stupid policy that impacts the average American’s access and enjoyment of OUR land. On an interesting note, you will find that many enviro-elites have waivers that give them far more rights and access to restricted public lands due to their misguided and dangerous activism. The very same activists have restricted the use of my land due to endangered kangaroo rats that only one nest was found.

I will laugh the day Toppenberg gets eaten by one of his “gentle bears”.

I knew that the left would have to attack her for something, but the funny thing is I was naive enough to think it would be putting her family at risk by being so close to the bears! I should have known that they would see the Palin’s as a threat to the bears.
