Epic New Ad Excoriates Obama For Exploiting Bin Laden’s Death

A group called “Veterans for a Strong America” is out with a scathing political ad ripping President Barack Obama for what it sees as exploiting Osama bin Laden’s death.

(Related: Navy SEALs Unload on Obama Over Politicizing bin Laden Raid: ‘A No Brainer’)

Released Tuesday night, the one-minute, 17-second spot crosses images of Navy SEALS and statements proclaiming “what heroes do” with clips of the president. One segment strings together his references to himself in announcing bin Laden’s death, saying: “I can report…I directed…I was briefed…I met repeatedly…I determined…at my direction…I called…”

“Heroes don’t seek credit,” the ad states.

The spot then shifts to the Obama campaign’s recent ad featuring former President Bill Clinton discussing the bin Laden raid and how a botched mission would have reflected on the president.

“Suppose the Navy SEALs had gone in there…suppose they had been captured or killed,” Clinton says. “The downside would have been horrible for him.”

“Horrible for HIM?” the ad states.

It concludes with a split-screen of a SEAL with the caption “heroism” and Obama’s face with the word “politics.”

“Tell President Obama,” it states. “Our service members sacrifice to protect our country. Not to benefit his political campaign.”

Veterans for a Strong America describes itself as a “non-partisan action organization” headed by Joel Arends, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Arends was on the McCain campaign’s payroll during the 2008 campaign.

The ad’s release came hours after Obama made a surprise trip to Kabul and visited with American troops.

The Atlantic Wire has termed the ad, “the Swift Boating of Obama” — a reference to the infamous “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” campaign against 2004 presidential candidate John Kerry.

What about landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier under a mission accomplished banner, while two wars are still being fought?

Face it, if it was W., all we would hear is how W. got Bin Ladem, much like at the last GOP convention the speeches were how W. kept us safe after 9/11 (forgetting to mention how he failed to read the memos the summer before that would have alerted him to the danger).

Basically, the Neo COns and Conservatives are whinning that there guys, W. and Darth Cheney dropped the ball and they can’t run these ads.

So… you’re saying if Bush did something wrong, that makes it alright if Obama does it, in an election year, to get a second term. As usual, the typical progressive tactic: present two options, both of which are false. I choose neither Bush progressiveness nor Obama socialism. I choose the Constitution, Liberty, and the truth. Please go away and stop lying for a living.

      ENCINOM:

You are absolutely right. That was just as bad. And many people called him out on it as well, including conservatives.

In fact, I am in a somewhat unique position because A) I am a conservative, and B) I was actually assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln at the time (2000-2004) and was forced to participate in the ceremony. The only thing that I could think of at the time was how much of a cheap political ploy it was. Granted, I was already extremely angry at him for the year that I was stuck over there for a bogus war.

I typically don’t agree with you, but you are pretty spot-on with this observation. There does indeed seem to be a double standard, however there were some conservatives who excoriated Bush for it.

That’s new. When did that start?

Let’s see, Bush has already been mentioned. What about Reagan when he attacked Libya? Do ya reckon there is any audio or video of Reagan talking about that? Or H.W. talking about getting Noriega or Desert Storm?

Anyway, whenever that new rule started, it must have been recent.

@AvengerK Right and I’m sure the flight crew insisted that Bush wear a flight jacket. All the comments here merely reinforce that the so called controversy regarding Obama commenting on the successful elimination of Bin Laden has been created to minimize the accomplishment. Nothing more. The attempt is rather lame and not nearly as creative as individuals like the author wants people to believe.

Never mind that true patriots are killed or captured……it’s all about how it affects HIM, a man who has never lived a true American life experience and was raised and mentored by a bunch of leftists (at best)

@Encinom, The “Mission Accomplished” banner had *nothing* to do with Bush. The commanders of the aircraft carrier had hung the banner, referencing the completion of missions assigned to the crew and pilots under them. It was just poor camera placement that had the banner behind Bush while he was speaking, then the biased and vitriolic media saw it and jumped on him for it.

When Obama was just a candidate all he did was criticize military action. The military and intelligence agencies have been working real hard to find Osama for over a decade. President Obama does not take any prisoners so there is nobody to gain actionable intelligence from under his watch. Just from the guys that are already in Gitmo. They (military/intelligence agencies) track him down and form a plan and present it to Leon Panetta who forwards it to President Obama. The President does the brave and bold action of saying “ok.” The Seals and the Pentagon form a final plan and execute it. President Obama then dances around like a fool for a year taking credit for all of this. Trying to squeeze as much political blood out of this as he can. I’m surprised he has not dislocated his shoulder from patting himself on the back. President Obama heavily criticized President Bush for doing a premature victory lap but this hypocrite stays in shape by taking daily victory laps for all sorts of things other people did.

“We‘ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there.”- Barack Obama 2008.

In a nutshell…Obama believed all our troops were doing in Afghanistan was “airraiding villages and killing civilians”. As for “enough troops” you‘ll recall Obama was wringing his hands over McChystal’s request for more troops for over a month. It’s filtering out now that Obama had to be dragged back to the white house to give an answer on the Bin Laden operation.

@AvengerK Really not the point but I understand the need to avoid the obvious hypocrisy. The fundamental fact here is that both Bush and Obama were/are the CIC of the arm forces. Obama was briefed regarding the mission and gave the go ahead orders at the appropriate check points. Bin Laden was found and killed on his watch. Nothing more, nothing less. Like many people you loss credibility when your ideology gets in the way of facts and calling it like it is. As for your lame personal attacks, save them for someone who shares your sad need to put down people to, I guess, feel important. This made up controversy to minimize the security accomplishment that killing Obama is for the President is rather lame. Who ever was President should receive the appropriate credit for the success of the raid. Just like the credit or criticism former Presidents received for their accomplishments and failures. For example the security mistake of going to and still being in Iraq is for both Obama and Bush. Nothing gained and thus no reason for being there.

What policy SOLELY Barack Obama’s led to the finding and finding of Osama bin Laden?

So far your fellow lefty MONACNE/SLEAZY HIPPO has offered these banalities:
Some crap about extending “Cheney” policies (it was accompanied by the expected bile spitting at Cheney)
This weird one- Obama has “faith in the courts”. (this was accompanied by some pious idiocies)Then she/he directed me to the recent propaganda film the Obama campaign commissioned and indicated that Obama trained the pilots that flew the mission.
Then it was some throw away crap about “ISR” and that only in the last three years did we gain the knowledge of the courier that led us to OBL.
So JROOK..instead of bleating more of your idiocies here…why don’t you help out your fellow lefty plant on these boards and tell me what policy Barack Obama SOLELY implemented (please tell me you don’t need SOLELY explained to you JROOK) that led to the killing of OBL.
While you’re at it tell me why Obama signed an executive order to close Gitmo in 2009 and not only remains open today, but he’s planning to build a $75K soccer field there.
And also..tell me why KSM has not been tried in a civilian trial after Obama ordered Holder to get one started..in 2009.

@DOGDR, I’d just like to point out that the mission accomplished flag behind Bush in that famous photo was put their by the crew of the Navy vessel to mark the conclusion of THEIR mission on their way home to port. It was not a banner put up by Bush to mark the end of the war with Iraq. Furthermore, on that day, he only said that it was an end to major combat missions, not that the war or if you rather, the occupation was over. It should also be noted that fighting unnamed and disorganized terrorists is not a war. It is a policing action. War is when two defined nations or at least well defined groups of people fight one another. Terrorists are neither a nation to themselves or a well defined group.

    That’s gonna leave a scar.

It’s harder to spin this without utterly alienating the military.

I think the only response will be to show some picked footage with Obama shaking hands with smiling soldiers, soldiers cheering his arrival at some event, or maybe Obama hugging a grieving mother of a fallen soldier.

For those of you who think the above political responses are without class, honor, beyond the pale, or beneath the dignity of his office?

Then let me introduce you to the new and improved digital age President. Barrack. Hussien. Obama!

Here’s the problem – HE didn’t kill anyone – he only takes credit for it.
    *********

Did Reagan tear down the berlin wall himself? The answer is no but he gets credit for it. Did Bush capture SAdaam? No but he gets credit for it.

The Commander in Chief does get to take credit for any military victory while on his watch, on the flip side any failure is his as well. SO while he didnt go to Pakistan and shoot Bin LAden himself, the military that he commands took orders from him and carried them out so he gets the credit.

The GOP is so funny on this one and the only reason they are mad about this is that they didnt get Bin Laden himself. The GOP used to be able to run on defense and foreign policy but after teh Iraq war and not catching Bin Laden they have shown they are incapable of defending this country. Obama said Bin Laden woudl be captured or killed and he was. Americans know who took the lead on this and the only ones that are bitter is the small % of people here.

PArtisan hacks are easy to see thru and that is all this is a case of.

Nor Reagan nor Bush did an entire political ad (over 7 min long mind you) to claim credit for it the slimey way he is doing. This president has alienated the military by apologizing for our nation, talking about he would bring our troops home and then getting involved in Lybia and then cutting the military budget first before he cuts spending in other much needed areas. For him to then take credit politically the way he is, is just a slap in the face and salt in wounds. Yes Politicians have taken political advantage of their military victories in the past but none have used it this way without offering ANY credit to those brave souls that did it. And, not to mention, in the ad they only address how tough it would have been on him politically but no mention of how concerned he was for the soldiers and their families. Um, because, it is obvious he doesn’t care!!! He can’t even bother to remember that the soldiers he awarded his first medal of honor to was dead when he gave it!!!! You can say a lot about Bush, most I would agree with, but at least he truly cared about our servicemen and women and their lives and families that he was asking such a sacrifice from.

This is what a leader does.

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have
striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The
hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.
In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on
other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war
machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of
Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well
equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of
1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats,
in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their
strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home
Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions
of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.
The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to
      Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in
battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

This is what a leader does when he fails:

“Our landings have failed and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based on the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.”

I bet Eisenhower got a lot of well deserved credit when he ran for POTUS.

The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other leftwing newspapers and publications[1][2], denoting an urge for progress.[3] Vorwärts! (German for ‘Forward’, with an exclamation point as part of the name) was a revolutionary German emigré publication issued in Paris in the mid-1840s. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were amongst the contributors to the magazine. Whilst the publication was short-lived, it had a lasting impact and served as an inspiration for later socialist press outlets. A second Vorwärts (without exclamation point) was founded in 1876, being an organ of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and with Wilhelm Liebknecht as its first editor.[4] In the years before the First World War, the term ‘vorwärts’ was almost monopolized in German political discourse by the Social Democrats, and the name was used for various publications and organizations.[5]

The German Vorwärts inspired socialists around the world.[6] The Yiddish daily Forverts, founded in New York in 1897, was named after the German publications (which were well-known amongst Jewish radical circles at the time). Rather than using the Yiddish word faroys, a transliteration of the German name was used.[4] Another prominent example has been Vpered (Russian language for ‘Forward’), the publication that Lenin started after having resigned from the Iskra editorial board in 1905 after a clash

Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name “Forward!” or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).”

“The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications,” the online encyclopedia explains.

The slogan “Forward!” reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.

The Obama campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7-minute video. The title card has simply the word “Forward” with the “O” having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign’s official beginning.
