European Parents-to-Be Could Be Denied Knowledge of Baby’s Gender

In an effort to prevent couples from selectively aborting unborn children based on gender, the Council of Europe has passed a draft resolution that would prevent parents from being told the sex of the fetus.
According to the Daily Telegraph, this method of “choosing” the sex of a child has reached “worrying” proportions in some European states, but the resolution, if passed, would be recommended to all of the 47 member states. The Daily Telegraph goes on to report:
. . . all NHS midwives and doctors could be blocked from telling expectant parents whether they will have a boy or a girl.
Parenting groups last night expressed anger about the proposed change, while doctors said the proposals were unworkable.
Justine Roberts, founder of parenting site Mumsnet said expectant couples would feel “pretty angry and disappointed” if a blanket ban on gender identification is introduced.
Mrs Roberts said expectant parents asked to know the sex of their child on practical grounds, such as working out whether siblings could share a room, or simply because they wanted an idea of what lay ahead.
She said: “I can understand that there may be problems in some parts of the world with sex selection, but it seems ridiculous to apply the thinking to countries where this has not been shown to be a problem.
Fox News has more from its senior managing editor of FoxNewsHealth.com, Dr. Manny Alvarez:
“There are parents that specifically want an ultrasound to determine the sex so they can consider sex selection,” he said. “(But) the consensus of withholding information from a parent falls against the grain of a relationship between a doctor and a patient. It violates ethics.”
Alvarez said the practice could never be done in America, as any documented medical data done on a patient immediately becomes the patient’s property.
The Daily Mail reports that the Council of Europe cannot force its member states’ governments to take this recommendation, even if it’s passed. Although, it notes that the council’s recommendations are “frequently enacted as a result of conventions and treaties.”

There are so many natural methods and techniques availabe today to enable parents to choose their baby’s sex naturally and avoid disappointment.

When I got here was good enough! Just because you can does not make it a right or make it right at all. That said, if a parent is wanting gender selection, bet on shady dudes setting up rogue sonogram clinics as they do in China and India.

It is consistent with her overall reproductive rights and right to privacy. Other than to regulate the practice of medical care the state has no business with social engineering of this type.

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 6:38amMany Asian parents practice calendar date selection based on their blood cycle and date of birth. It would be beneficial if science can shed a light on that. If parents can plan in advance, that would prevent many abortions or unwanted children.
Animals procreate on instinct, religious people rely on the prayer, the rest plan their family based on their OWN ability to provide. Unfortunately our welfare system turn many people into an animals.

Most these people don’t know how to raise their kids anyway. Maybe some kind of parenting test would be in order, for someone to just discard human life is so cold.

That shows to us how important to keep all decision making to individual states, not to Federal government.
Then NO MATTER what each state does, people can move out to a better place. With Federal government tyranny, liberty is denied to everyone, freedom is suffocated.
Vote Ron Paul in GOP primaries regardless on the issue, since liberty will benefit EVERYONE in one way or another.

Report Post »Agreed, except that I’m still not 100% sure about Paul, but like most things he believes. I’m getting closer to the point where I might trade his stance on American foreign policy for his obviously correct beliefs in strict Constitutionalism.
I’m a Constitutionalist, and big gov has got to get out of things the Constitution does not allow them to be in. It is the cause of most all the problems we now have. Obama is a disgrace, and traitor! I’m afraid lots of stupid, illiterate Americans will not figure it out until it’s too late. Racial hatred and anarchy, if needed, is Obama’s plan.
