This is not news. I’m a huge supporter of Glenn and TheBlaze, but this shouldn’t be on the website. Obviously the vet screwed up, or the guy is lying, either way, local story. If this were a chronic occurance, or if the reporter would dig in to find the rest of the story, assess the blame, then maybe.

We’re a “dog” family – 10 rescued in the last 15 years, and 5 currently with us. I hate when our local news sensationalizes an animal abuse story for ratings. So I don’t like it here either…

Please stop spamming. Also, in case you were unaware, dogs are NOT vegetarians. And no, ground up pets DO NO end up in chicken food. You can’t even get poultry feed with animal protein of any kind easily let alone with extra puppies and kittens.

This happened because dog food contains “rendered” cats/dogs from animal shelters, so dogs around the country are becoming resistant to the drug used to euthanize dogs. I am now only feeding my dog vegetarian dog food and supplementing with organic chicken (organic animals are fed a vegetarian diet) because I don’t want my dog to eat dogs, and I don’t want to eat meat that ate dogs (the rendered cats/dogs end up in cow, chicken, and pig feed, as well).
check it out at this link. It’s insane.

oh my, my sympathies for all who have had to make this decision. i too have that decision coming. my chihuahua Tripp has been my constant companion for almost 13 years now. he comes from a line that continually pass away at 9. have had him since he was 4 weeks old-runt not expected to survive as the mother would not let him nurse after he was 3 weeks old. he is starting to fail, sleeping more, sometimes his back legs give out, hard of hearing. he still has a spark, he still will rally for bye-bye, a treat, still eating. i pray he just goes to sleep……………….the thought of my last gift is a stick–he always hated shots….is extremely unsettling.

Ha! Ha! Now that is funny!

However, a cat is more likely to be Christ reincarnate. Cats are smarter than dogs. Cats bury what dogs love to eat. Further evidence of cats being superior beings to dogs is cats have nine lives, dogs do not.

Owner of this Christ dog is probably preparing to sell his dog on Ebay for a million bucks.

I agree. During my years as a practicing veterinarian, I have euthanized many animals with and without owners in the room. The animal is contiuously monitored for heartbeat and respiration, and is not sent with the owner until is dead. I have never heard of an animal “coming back to life.” If it did happen, the veterinarian should be disciplined. As an extra note, this was one reason I left practice. Euthanizing animals, even those seriously ill, eventually wears you down. I feel it is a needed service, but a very difficult one.

Come on people, it’s an animal. I like my pets alot, but that little lesson about how life comes to an end was taught to me at an early age on a chicken farm at butchering time. I‘ve had to put pets down before and while I don’t relish the idea and I’m certainly not entertained by it, they are not people. Having an intense emotional attachment to an animal with a lifespan one tenth of yours is kinda silly.

I’ve found that people who were raised on farms or ranches tend to have a different view of animals, pets, life, and death. That said, the relationship between a dog and person can be just as intense as that of a very, very, close relative dying. Last year we had no choice but to put down our 14 year old husky due to stage 4 bone cancer. I still dream about him, miss him, and wish he were with us. yes, we have moved on and have other pets – but some are special. This is something those who think of pets and just “animals” will never understand.

My grandfather owned a slaughterhouse when I was a kid and I worked on the killing floor from the time I was six years old until I was sixteen during summer break. (Times were different in the 70′s, now my grandpa would be on CNN for abusing me. I loved working at grandpa’s place. The Marxist Teamsters union put him out of business, but that’s another story…) Watching cows die never was a big deal, but if there aren’t dogs in heaven I want to go wherever they go in the afterlife.

WENDY IN FL comments, “Makes you think we shouldn’t play God with our pets either.”

I wrote a nice article for you a couple days back, over elsewhere, the Michael Caine story. Although my article was respectful and professionally written as all of my articles are, a Blaze staff member censored out my article. Appears there is a rule here at the Blaze discussion of sentient animals, such as whales and elephants, is not allowed. I will try again, maybe this article will not be censored out by The Blaze for whatever inane reason.

As you know, Wendy, discussion elsewhere centered on assisted suicide and “pulling the plug”. My article, which The Blaze censored out, focused on this arrogance of Christians not ascribing a “soul” to animals and, like you, I made a point about this hypocrisy of Christians playing God with animals.

On this Christian hypocritical hand Christians refuse to play God with a human life, on this other Christian hypocritical hand Christians do play God with the life of an animal.

Whales are sentient beings. Humans kill and eat whales. Elephants are sentient beings. Humans kill elephants for ivory. Many primates like apes and chimpanzees are sentient beings. We kill primates for a variety of reasons, we also conduct horrific scientific experiments on primates. Many animals are sentient beings; horses, dolphins, cats and others.

Currently Obama is slaughtering wild horses in the name of environmentalism. He is making glue of those horses. Christians do not seem to have any reservations about slaughtering sentient animals, nor do Christians seem to have any problems about slaughtering humans in the name of God.

However, assisted suicide or pulling the plug for reason of compassion, Christians go psychotic. This is a Christian arrogance of humans are superior to all living things. God says so, although God never speaks to anyone.

A horse is a sentient being. Tradition is when a horse breaks a leg, we shoot this horse. When a human breaks a leg, different story; no measure is too great to save this person’s leg and life.

Life of a horse is of little value to Christians. A human life is of the greatest value. Why?

Answer is simple. Christian self-righteous arrogance has each think himself to be God.

      Okpulot Taha,

Thank you for your well thought out comment. I believe the idea that a human life should not be extinguished prematurely, despite the suffering, but an animal life can, comes from the book of Genesis when it states that man shall have dominion over the animals.

I agree, animals are without a doubt sentient beings. For a soul not to exist in a creature that so obviously feels love, well, that’s hard for me to deny.

I also agree with your reply to another post that cats are smarter than dogs! ;-)

WENDY IN FL disagrees, “I believe the idea that a human life should not be extinguished prematurely, despite the suffering, but an animal life can….”

We disagree but do so with respect. We disagree but neither of us attempt to force our beliefs upon the other. This is the base issue for me; being forced to believe as others do.

WENDY IN FL cites the Bible, “book of Genesis when it states that man shall have dominion over the animals.”

This is true until an animal kills you and eats you. We humans are very low on the food chain.

WENDY IN FL agrees, “I agree, animals are without a doubt sentient beings. For a soul not to exist in a creature that so obviously feels love, well, that’s hard for me to deny.”

I know animals to be sentient. Wild raccoons visit with us almost nightly. They know where I store their cookies and other goodies. Those rascals slip on their masks and each night burglarize our home. We had to install latches on my kitchen pantry doors to keep those raccoons from raiding our stored food, especially cookies, crackers and jars of jam. Smart thieves, now they climb up on our bed at two in the morning then bug me until I get out of bed to fetch cookies for them.

My belief system ascribes spirits to all things, living or not. We revere Mother Nature. Those spirits are the equal to your concept of souls. I talk with Mother Nature and listen carefully. A few weeks back I am sitting and swapping lies with our wild raccoons. I ask, “Where can I find America today?”

This photograph is proof animals are sentient beings. Our raccoons answered my question. This is where a couple of our raccoon kittens led me to find today’s America:

      http://www.purlgurl.net/~puma/misc/coon_kittens_19.jpg

WENDY IN FL concludes, “I also agree with your reply to another post that cats are smarter than dogs!”

Yes, this is why we girls are considered feline, and boys are considered canine.

WENDY IN FL is unsure, “As far as what I believe about euthanasia, well, I can say with certainty that I have no idea what I believe.”

During my childhood I “euthanized” dozens of hogs by slitting their throats before gutting those hogs. Around age seven or eight, grandpa always picked me for a quick and merciful death for hogs because of my talent with a knife. Almost always a hog would not show a bit of reaction with my making a such a quick, precision and virtually painless cut.

Boys would string up a 500 pound hog, matter of a couple of minutes I would have the hog eviscerated. Boys performed the heavy work of butchering. Grandma and I had the worst job of all, making soap using lye and hog fat; takes the skin right off your hands.

However, wringing chicken necks, I never was any good at this leading to comical stories to tell.

Humans need to eat, need to survive. Part of this is killing, slaughtering and eating animals.

Although unemotional about this killing, I did the best I could to have an animal not suffer. This fits with Christian compassion. Pets, this is virtually impossible to distance ourselves emotionally. With our loved ones, a father, a wife, a child, this is literally impossible to be cold and calculating.

I think some of this Christian objection to “euthanasia” is a fear of applying the knife when needed. Most often making a decision to end life is not so difficult, what is difficult is carrying out this decision; this is a decision which is fatally final.

WENDY IN FL loves masked bandits, “I forgot to comment on the picture of those very wise raccoons!”

Very wise, often smarter than people. On any given night, we have anywhere from two to six raccoons roaming around in our house, after they feed. All are wild not tame. Raccoons are friendly and natural born clowns — nothing but grins and giggles.

A quick bit of trivia, raccoons will watch television and react to television. Cats, dogs, not so. Last night, a show has a dog running, his dog tags “jingle”. Our raccoons hear this and scatter, “Dog! Dog! Run! Run!” Other times, our raccoons will go up to our television then try to “reach in” to take something they want.

Look at my photograph again. No toilet paper on the roll. We have to lock up our toilet paper. Raccoons delight in unrolling toilet paper, then ripping, shredding and tossing toilet paper everywhere, upstairs, downstairs, across the floor, over furniture, bathtub, toilet, kitchen sink, toilet paper everywhere you look. Toilet paper is like whiskey to raccoons; makes them drunk and giddy.

      This is what happens:

      http://www.purlgurl.net/~puma/misc/coon_kittens_20.jpg

Dirt and mud is from their digging in my houseplants. Mix raccoons and toilet paper, craziness and a mess. Raccoons made great wild pets, just don’t leave out your toilet paper.

God what a thing to face, its tough enough to have to put down an aniamil that is part of your family yet this is the ultimate nightmare to be faced – coming back from the dead. How many times has this happened and not been told to the families who leave their pets at the vet offices to be put down and they never find out what has happened to them?

I have had to put three dogs and three cats down over a 18 year period and I stay with them the whole time my vet always tells me you stay as long as you want and when your ready you let us know and I bring them home and bury them in a speacial place but I also know and believe I will be with them again so I may miss them alot but I know they are with GOD and having a great time. That’s just me.GOD LOVES HIS ANIMALS.My Mastiff passed away at home Jan 8th 2010 he was seven and had one major surgery and GOD BLESSED us with him two more years and then had one leg amputated and survived that seven months but then his heart gave out but he was a trooper and happy always and I knew he was getting tired and I prayed and asked GOD if it’s his will to take him if it could be at home and not a hospital enviorment and he answered and he took him gently and quick.I called him Zeuse my little pony I love animals but I would not put them above humans but if your going to have them you have to take care of them and love them they are part of the family no doubt in my mind. They give unconditional love.
