Ever Wanted to Peek at Obama’s Taxes? Here’s Your Chance

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, reported income of $1.728 million for last year, much of it from the sale of the president’s pre-presidency books. They paid federal taxes totaling $453,770 after receiving a $12,334 refund.

The Obamas paid their taxes at lowered Bush-era rates, even as he campaigns to end them for households with adjusted gross incomes above $250,000 – a category into which the first family clearly fits.

Joining the flocks of Americans filing their taxes near the end of the federal filing period, the Obamas made withholding and other payments to the Internal Revenue Service last year totaling $466,104. That was an overpayment, so they got their refund. The president and first lady reported donating $245,075 – about 14.2 percent of their adjusted gross income – to 36 different charities.

The largest single gift was a contribution of $131,075 to the Fisher House Foundation, a charity that offers a scholarship fund for children of soldiers who die or are disabled.

The Obamas’ adjusted gross income for 2010 of $1.728 million was well below the $5.5 million they reported for the year before, both totals mostly driven by royalties from books written earlier by Obama. They included his 1995 memoir “Dreams From My Father” and his 2006 political book, “The Audacity of Hope.”

The White House released the returns on the day that federal tax returns are due this year, although Obama signed his 1040 form last Tuesday. Michelle Obama signed the tax return on Wednesday.

They also released their Illinois income tax returns showing they paid $51,568 in state income taxes for last year.

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, reported more modest earnings, a combined adjusted gross income of $379,178, on which they paid $86,626 in federal taxes for 2010. The Bidens’ withholding and earlier payments came to just $79,446 – so they had a tax bill of $7,180 to settle.

The Obamas paid 26 percent of their adjusted gross income in federal income taxes. The Bidens paid 23 percent.

The Bidens paid $14,479 in Delaware income taxes and $3,515 in Virginia income taxes. Jill Biden is an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College. The Bidens contributed $5,360 to charities.

I was looking for how long it would be until someone mentioned the connection to Bill O’Reilly, he more then likely wouldn‘t have given that much to the Fisher House if it hadn’t been for Bill. Is good that he did give to the Fisher House, but he certainly could have given much more even as much as he despises the military. Why not give half his proceeds of his book to the Fisher House? As a recent Army retiree, when I see what little he does for anything associated with the military, my meter just gets pegged out in frustration. When I retired in October of 2009, I decided not to get the retirement certificate signed by the President.

With all the tax and charity the Obama’s pay, it’s important to remember that they have ZERO expenses during the 2 years of campaigning and the 4 years of his presidency. Not a dinner, airline ticket or soda pop came out of his net income. If all of us had these types of funds, we’d be happy with a significant tax increase!

    Hey Pres,
You are a fine example of what I never want to be like; nor my children. In fact, those who I have known that are like-minded as you, I don’t hang with anymore. You are a lost cause of greed, materialistic manner, and colossal prevaracation. So many opportunities have been afforded to you to help the country and you simply ignored them and helped yourself. You are going down in history as a pathetic poser as a president of the strongest nation ever to be. However, you will go down in 2012 as having tried to destroy our country but only to fail as the Americans that are privy to your system; and those who will wake up; will shelve you as you should be shelved. I can’t look at you, I can’t listen to you, I can’t trust you, I can’t like you, and I could never vote for you or another democrat. You, sir; have ruined your reputation and have rightly so become reprehensible. I look forward to your departure in 2012. May the library you build in you honor be filled with truth as you are not.

I posted this elsewhere, but I thought it was good here too.
Why can’t we just make taxes voluntary. If the government ACTUALLY had good programs, that helped people, I might contribute. Basically doing your taxes would be more like a gigantic fund-raiser, where we have to list of how many dollars we wanted to contribute to their proposed budged items. I definitely would contribute to military funds on my own if asked.
This would make the people in charge of the budget instead of Washington. Maybe as a first step, we have a flat tax rate, and we at least decide what percentage of our taxes go where. Why do we let Washington decide what is done with the money anyway?

Do as I say, not as I do…the motto of every good hypocrite, communist, socialist, power monger, or corrupt politician.

I am sure the obamas, or their tax accountants, informed them that they can pay MORE in taxes than they are legally obligated. The obamas don’t have to deduct charitable contributions…hell, if he wanted to back up his lying mouth, he could have taken the standard deduction and PAY LOTS MORE in the taxes he so loves.

Come on Barry! Lead by example! You can even cut a check to the IRS for no reson other than to pay more in taxes! If you did this, maybe some of the moronic msnbc’ers like mika and matthews will follow suit. Then Barry can ask his hedonistic hollywood friends to voluntarily pay more, but I don’t think they will be too eager to jump on this bandwagon!

      Betterdays

Sorry to be the one to tell you but you ‘ve pretty much condemned yourself a long time ago.
No one has to do it for you, you did it all yourself.
Good luck in getting that birth certificate, never going to happen.

Lol, hey Obamanation! I knew you would not be able to resist, I’ve read your mail each and every time!
Whereas your condemnation lacks force, “ there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus ”. And again “Judge not lest you be judged”. I know who I am in Christ Jesus, do you know your standing?
And as for that birth certificate, have you ever heard the term “false flag”?
Funny thing about being a manipulator, you become as susceptible to your own half truths as you’r victims are. No matter how much you might want the issue to go away or not, you alone can’t control the lies life span, your stuck with it, and it goes towards credibility and integrity, both of which is lacking.

I think this is one of the FIRST things that I can say “Good for Obama” about. He actually does give money to charities – good for him.

      ………
He paid 25%. As a multimillionaire.
Didn’t he complain as a candidate about the boss paying a lower rate than his secretary?
He could have given the refund back, right? Hello, rich?
      “Do as I say, sucker.”

Here’s a tax that most people would be for … let’s tax at say 90%, everything that a politician makes! Now I would be for a tax like that!

Again he has an opportunity to lead and he doesn’t. Where‘s the extra money that he doesn’t need being paid to the government? Hmmm? There’s nothing stopping him from paying extra taxes. Clearly he just wants others to pay more.

No surprise with the Vice President Biden holding to form with CHARITABLE contributions; less than 2% of their income…

Earning over $1.7 million last year surely makes him one of the “rich” who he demonizes every chance he gets. Why doesn’t he just make an example of himself by redistributing his wealth now for all Americans to see? Put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

I commend the President for giving to charity, especially one as worthy as the Fisher House. He‘s doing better then his VP and most Democrats that I’ve heard numbers on. Have to say something positive about the man once in awhile. I wonder how much he donated to the IRS?

Personally, I am proud of the President on this one. It looks like his return is both legit, and his largest gift is to the troops, I realize that this is to make him look good in 2012, but the troops got a benefit from it. I don’t have a problem with the 25% tax rate, it is pretty close to the Fair Tax and Flat Tax proposals. If we are going to be believed as wanting reform, then we have to applaud the things that go right.
