‘Every Generation Has Its Moses’: Beck Invokes Insightful Rabbi on the Meaning of Leadership

What is leadership? In the poignant video clip below, Beck relays a message from a wise sage, Rabbi Simon Jacobson, who, in his book “Towards a Meaningful Life” just might have an inkling:
From the book:
In our secular society we tend to think of a leader as a person who’s well connected or who is powerful or charismatic or wealthy. We judge leaders by what they have. But a true leader should be judged by what he has not: Ego, arrogance, and self‑interest. A true leader sees his work as a self‑less service towards a higher purpose. As the sagists say leadership is not power and dominance. It is servitude. That doesn’t mean that a leader is weak. He derives great strength from his dedication to a purpose that is greater than himself.
Every generation has its Moses, a leader who inspires absolute trust, who is totally dedicated to fulfilling his unique role. He understands and appreciates each person’s role in perfecting this world and guides him or her accordingly. He rises above any individual perspective to take a global view, seeing how much each person and each issue fits into the entire scheme of the contemporary world. A true leader shakes people from their revery and tells them, no, you don’t need to live a life of desperation and confusion. Yes, you do have the ability to find meaning in your life and the unique skills to fulfill that meaning. You’re an important link in a chain of generations past. You have a legacy worth preserving and a future worth fighting for.
A true leader shows us that our world is indeed heading somewhere and that we control its movement. That we need not be at the mercy of personal prejudices or prevailing political winds, that none of us is subservient to the history or nature that we are history and nature. That we can rid the world of war and hate and ignorance, obliterate the borders that separate race from race and rich from poor.
Still many people have lost faith in contemporary leaders. The solution is not to resign yourself to the sad state of affairs but to search for and demand a leader of sterling character. The ultimate goal should be to have all the benefits of a democracy and the benefits of a visionary leader. It’s important especially today to distinguish between leadership and demagoguery. A demagogue may inspire people but his motives are impure and his expectations are unrealistic. It is wise to be a bit skeptical when assessing a leader. Is he truly devoted to his mission or just seeking glory? Is he truly interested in the welfare of others or simply building a flock for his own self aggrandizement? A true leader does not seek followers. He wants to teach others how to be leaders. He doesn’t want control. He wants truth. He doesn’t impose his leadership on others, nor does he take away anyone’s autonomy. He inspires by love, not coercion. When it comes time to take credit, he makes himself invisible. But he is the first to arrive at a time of need, and he will never shrink away in fear. He is so passionate about your welfare that when you consult him for guidance, it’s like coming face to face with yourself for the first time.
Beck asked if either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama evokes these sentiments and truths for us.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 8:25amIt’s difficult to understand why any Rabbi would even talk to Beck. His views are similar to the evangelicals concerning Jews and Israel. They don’t honestly support Israel. They have some fantasy about jesus coming back and landing in Israel and the “smart” jews will become “born again” and the others will just die off and go to hell with the rest of us. Evangelical crazies should be honest about their intentions.

You to will bow when the day of judgement comes, and if your sins are not paid for by Christ’s blood, no amount of good works will suffice to escape judgement. No one comes to the Father except through the son. If you are Jewish you should go back and read the Torah, as it was foretold of repeatedly, and many of these passages are not taught in your local synagogue, since they obviously speak of Christ.
Isaiah 53:
………Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray…….
See for yourself:

Psalm 22:
1. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 9:51amAssuming for the sake of argument this is truly what you believe, then you truly either cannot yourself be a follower of Jesus Christ or do not understand the truth of Christianity. This is not a religion in its truest sense. It is a relationship with the Jewish Messiah. He (and we) loves the Jewish people and from before time began desires that no human being should perish. Each of us because of our willful disobedience to laws set up for our protection is already on the road to an eternity without hope. Whether we are pulled lovingly off that path to destruction is absolutely a matter of our choice. If you are hanging on the edge of a cliff by a tree branch and I offer you the only rope with which we together can pull you to safety, do not dare to blame me if you choose to let go of the rope and plunge to your demise. That would be purely hypocritical on your part.

As a former Evangelical who is now in the process of formally converting to Judaism (after 15 years of study), I have a unique perspective and I must respectfully disagree with your statement. While it is never difficult to “dig-up” nuts anywhere, Evangelicals are overwhelmingly supportive of Jews and Israel because of their love for their Savior– a Jew. In addition, the Evangelicals believe that the Bible commands them to do so. By understanding this unique relationship, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein has been able to help hundreds of Jews. End of story.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:46amAll of us find our Moses, some may think Glenn is it, some not. A Moses for me would be a person who follows, teaches Torah.. A lot of Torah doesn’t apply because 1. you’re not living in the Land of Israel, 2. the temple no longer stands (Priesthood gone) Sorry Mormons and Catholiccs, your priests are not biblical). 3. The Beit Dem court is out of session and 4. Yeshua fulfilled the lamb sacrifiice, and he is the living temple of God, he is the high Priest and judge.
God is not univerisal, he gave us the path to redemption, anyone claiming other ways to get there is addding to and taking away from God’s plan. Yeshua was not just a man, not just a sacrficial lamb, he was God in the flesh and there are no Gods formed before him or after him.
The whitehorse is the anti-christ, not Christ. Mormons need to understand that.

With the exception of Joshua, Moses had no clients as a guidence counsellor.
Moses was primarily a teacher of Torah (something a gentile will always ignore) and he failed
as a leader at Massah and Meribah when he invoked a miracle rather than first sanctifying God by teaching Torah.

(Does that make Obama treyf?) But what about the REST of the American denominations? I guess Glenn, like the rest of the insufferable elite in the Republican Party, just figures that the Baptist Republicans and the Presbyterian Republicans and all the other Christian (and white) Republicans will just shut up and fall in line with the Republican Candidate no matter how Mormon he might be. After all, we have always done what we were told before. Why should now be any different? *sigh* Or is it that the “white vote” doesn’t even matter? Maybe only the JEWISH vote matters now? Posted on August 15, 2012 at 1:25amI find it interesting that the “Mormon detractors” use old saws that have been kicking around for some time, and have been refuted and ignored for all that time also. Nevertheless it will rise to crescendo now as we approach the debates and the vote. However, how many of those detractors will look at the sites set up for information about Mormons, such as lds.org, or will go by the stuff put out by other detractors? Of course, hypocrisy is standard fare nowadays, so we will see more and more of it. It labels and defines those using it.
For example, the white horse prophecy has not been canonized, and is refuted by Church leadership. It is an example of several statements attributed to Joseph Smith or other leaders of that time, that have been used to defame him and the Church, but are lies that have become “Truth” in the minds of unbelievers that attack the Church and its followers. Tell an untruth about someone or something, and repeat it often enough, and it supplants the truth in the minds of those wishing to destroy anything of good. This happens every time Glenn Beck brings forth a universal truth that progressives want to oppose and destroy.
Look for more of these negative tactics in the near future, and be prepared to promulgate truth in its stead.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 5:31amDude, the White Horse Prophecy isn’t not a farce. In fact…there are alot of Christians that apply the “White Horse” role to their candidate. They believe things happen in a cycle.
I find the hypocrisy obvious.
Regardless, Mormons do feel it is part of their religion (and are thus fanatics) to protect the U.S. Constitution and have been for quite a while been prepared to sacrifice everything.
Ezra Taft Benson made mention of it even while he was President/Prophet.
I‘m annoyed that Mormons don’t stand up for their Faith. I use to be one and I still stand up for the Church…cuz I know they are not Devilworshipers. They don’t have symbols that have functions contradictory to what Jesus Christ had taught. If anything, I have repeatedly read and heard leaders of the Church speak out against the Occult and at times even Masons. They know for a fact that the “Brotherhood” has been corrupted.
Everyone now knows that the entire system is overrun. Mormons just knew it before most.
I still think all church’s have failed and no longer possess Divine Authority. I’m a Lockean Deist now….and I intend to die and stay dead. I am an orphan in the universe.
All you Anti-Mormons have been lead astray. Christianity was hi-jacked…Islam fabricated….Judaism corrupted.
Indeed the Abrahamic Religions have all failed.
Be on the look out for a “New Religion”. That’s when the Anti-Christ/Prometheus will enter.

They are designed to indoctrinate – to be a ‘good citizen’ (look that one up and learn what a ‘citizen’ is, both at law, and in the greater bastardized usage of the word as used today — FROM ITS SOURCE) – What YOU think ‘citizen’ means is NOT how the term is being interpreted without your knowledge. — Learning is an INDIVIDUAL responsibility.
