‘Everything’s Cool’: Limbaugh Says Media Reports About His Advertisers Are Misleading

In the wake of the “kerfuffle” over Rush Limbaugh mocking 30-year old Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, news outlets including the Huffington Post, Politico, and the Associated Press have breathlessly reported that a growing number of businesses have abandoned the three-hour radio program — despite a written and on-air apology from its host.
Some critics, Limbaugh included, believe that the purpose of these reports is to convince audiences that Limbaugh has done irreparable financial damage to his brand and that his show won’t last much longer.
“People are reporting things that, A, are not true, and B, I don‘t even think the people reporting it have the slightest idea what they’re talking about, nor do they have the ability to understand it,” Limbaugh said during his show on Wednesday. “No, we have not lost 28 sponsors.”
“Well, how can they say it?” Limbaugh asked rhetorically. “Because they lie and because they don’t understand how it works, and that’s what I want to try and explain.”
The radio show host continued: the “official” list of businesses that have pulled their advertisements from the Limbaugh program is, simply put, misleading. While Think Progress and Media Matters are claiming 30+ businesses have fled the Limbaugh program, they are silent about the fact that most of the advertisers are small companies picked up by any one of the 600 stations carrying the Rush Limbaugh show.
Which is to say, although there are some national advertisers on “the list,” the majority of companies making a statement about pulling their ads from Limbaugh are small, privately owned business that make up a very small fraction of the total number of businesses advertising on the 600 stations running radio show.
“Everything is fine on the business side. Everything’s cool,” Limbaugh reassured his listeners. “There is not a thing to worry about. What you’re seeing on television about this program and sponsors and advertisers is just incorrect.”
Listen to Limbaugh explain the truth behind the advertiser “exodus” (via Daily Rushobo):
Limbaugh explains why the narrative set up by the media is factually dishonest:
Sponsors of our program are both nationwide companies, like Two If By Tea (my tea company), and local companies, like “Mike’s Auto Body Repair” or a local bank. If we added up all of our affiliates (let’s choose the number 600) and we assumed that each of those affiliates had 30 such sponsors in the course of our three-hour program, there might be — all across this country — as many as 18,000 different sponsors of this program.
Let me put it another way: There might be 18,000 different people buying advertising within this program alone.
That is a conservative number: 600 stations, 18 commercial minutes an hour. We take whatever we take to sell ourselves and the local station keeps the rest. They have local advertisers. You add up all those over the course of 600 stations, over three hours a day, five days a week, and we’re talking 18,000 different sponsors, okay?
ABC News, who understands how this works and are purposely misrepresenting it, is out there ballyhooing that we have lost 28 sponsors. Twenty-eight sponsors out of 18,000! That‘s like losing a couple of french fries in the container when it’s delivered to you at the drive-thru. You don’t even notice it. If we lose 28 of those sponsors, the majority of them being in one city or another out of 18 thousand, it’s a sad occurrence.
Well, even if the number is miniscule, these companies are still sending a message, right?
“Yes, they‘re putting out statements because they’re hoping to make political gains — and it’s gonna backfire,” Limbaugh assured. “You can look at the stock price of some of these companies. I’m not gonna say any more, but it’s going to backfire.”

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 8:19amRush is a good guy. He gets a little worked up, thats why I like him….Phillip Defranko, some teenager with a following on youtube really dissed on Rush the other day, told his audience to call any sponsor of Rush and tell them you will not buy the product unless they leave the sponsorship to Rush’s program. I wonder who paid Phillip Defranko to do that?

I miss the days when men were men and not made effeminate by the feminists of today. Afraid to say or do anything that may offend. Cowering like little girls. This is why I like talking to older people. They talk of better and simpler days long ago. I feel sorry for the men out there today.

There are few real men left. They will not stand up anymore. They lay down to the left.
Evil triumphs when good men do nothing. He did WORSE than nothing…he promoted the PC left agenda by caving in.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 7:37amI was staying ay my Cousin’s house in Carthage, Mo. last 4th Of July. We went down to Joplin to see Rush. When he went onstage, he didn’t mention anything about politics, though the crowd was yelling for it. Rush spoke about the American spirit of weathering tragedies, helping one another and rebuilding. He was mesmirizing! He only spoke for about 15 minutes due to his schedule, but he left everyone there wanting more. He also donated a full trailerload of ‘Two If By Tea’, as it was a day-long affair. I think it’s a very tasty tea, and there’s several flavors available, in both regular and diet. It’d be a great time to show our support for Rushbo by ordering a case or two. Let’s empty his warehouse, Patriots!

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 7:20amThis is a little around the subject at hand, and has somewhat to do with advertising or the topics that people discuss with which they are exposed to or expose others. I was thinking about the vast content people have readily at their finger tips and the vast free flow of information on the internet. So many millions and millions of concepts are even there for the plucking in blogs and comment posts for which an artist can draw concepts for visual art, and even song theme ideas and lyrics. It seems to me if the internet becomes greatly controlled, that those controls will greatly stifle the creative wells of artists and musicians. It will suppress many people’s spiritual access to information which could have been plucked from millions of websites or news articles and will cause many less “Ah ha” moments for creative people. Truly any artist who supports control of the internet is cutting off their sniffer to spite their face.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 7:15amOf course it is exaggerated by the left; they live to lie. Rush only has to worry about a better conservative radio show taking his listeners; he is lucky that Andrew Wilkow is on satellite radio only, I think the Wilkow Majority would crush him in direct competition. Sorry Rush…

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 7:06amConservatives should boycott Rush because he took a serious constitutional issue and gave the liberals exactly what they wanted, a “kerfuffle” over some tramp’s sexual exploits at college. Now, the liberals are all baleyhooing about this poor innocent sex-3000-times-a-year “victim”.
Rush should have been demanding the names of these “victims” that the slut kept talking about. It was all staged. It was all a ruse to change the topic. There are actually women ponying up 80 grand a year to go to GWU, but they can’t afford birth control pills or condoms? Really? How big of a lie will the American public stand?
I want the American public to meet these “victims”, and I want them to see what type of Mercedes they drive.
And then I want Joe the Plumber to think long and hard about his tax money going to subsidize their sex-for-free business.

There is no way such a substantial playboy should have to be accountable for a little playful kerflufferry. He is an absurdist entertainer, not a leader or role model. Anyone who takes him seriously is guilty of misplaced trust.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 7:34amI don’t think Rush had anything to apologize for – he was basically saying a woman who wants to be paid to have sex is a slut and a prostitute – it was Ms. Fluke with her hand out for those free birth control pills. You are the one, with the line “I take BC, ergo I’m a slut”, that is equating birth control to being a slut. That is ignorant on what he said.
The issue is not ‘birth control’ pills, it is not Republican’s denying women access to health care (that is such a canard) – the issue is the mandate – the power of the government to force a private company to provide a service or product for free – the power of the government to force a religious institution to go against their doctrine. Sandra Fluke was a distraction from the overreach of the Obama Administration – Rush did fall for the trap and his apology I think has more to do with that than what he said about Ms. Fluke.
I agree with granny – more companies will suffer if they pull from Rush – his fans are devoted and understand what he was saying – those who claim they are fans and will no longer listen to him are at best casual listeners or at worst people who never listened to him in the first place.

And as new companies pull their sponsorship every day, Limbaugh says good riddance. “They are never going to apologize to you or me or any of us,” he said on Monday. “That’s the difference between them and us, and it’s one more reason why ultimately we will prevail over them.”
