Evolution: Watch the Japanese Tsunami Travel from Sea to Countryside

The early story in Japan is not necessarily the 8.9 magnitude earthquake, but rather the 23 ft. tsunami it spawned. We’ve already brought you video of the tidal wave hitting the shore, but below is a video progression showing the tsunami from its genesis in the ocean, to its path of destruction through the cities and countryside. The pictures are incredible.

First, cameras captured the giant tidal wave as it gained strength in the ocean:

As we’ve already shown you, the wave hit the town of Kamaishi:

Sendai Airport was also no match for the powerful water:

It then started ravaging the countryside, where it was even carrying a floating fireball of debris:

I love to see the compassion and sense of unity that comes from such events. I only wish that it didn’t take such events to remind us of our humanity. My thoughts and prayers are with the world today as we are navigating some very unstable and chaotic times. I still believe in the goodness of the human race.
Together we can peacefully get thru anything, though we may not agree politically, we must find a way to compromise and coexist together. Please God give all of your children the courage and strength to get through this…and dear Lord shine down upon the families who have lost their loved ones…AMEN

At least Japan had better building codes for earthquakes than New Zealand. You just can not do anything about a Tsunami. Sandra Bullock will be thinking about getting out of her beach house on the beach in Sunset Beach, CA. I wonder how much of the recent volcano activity around the world had to due this? In Christchurch New Zealand they are talking about two volcanoes coming back to life, They just recently found hot springs around there that were there before. You have earthquake swarms in Germany near the Efil Mountains between Bonn, the old capital of West Germany and Cologne. Does it mean that a super volcano located at the bottom of Laacher See, that is a lake, is becoming active. It worries me that a major earthquake in California could set off Longs Valley Caldera, a super volcano located near between LA and Reno, NV. They have had a lot of earthquake swarms around Reno, NV the last several years. The states in the Midwest are not even ready for a Major earthquake on the New Madrid faylt. It has been a iittle 0ver 200 years since the last major one on that fault. Something major is getting ready to happen to the Earth. But at least it is not Al Gore.

      @BILLSOCAL

I live in the New Madrid fault area. That Dec. 16, 1811 earthquake had aftershocks through Feb., 1812. The initial quake rang church bells in Boston and is said to have cracked sidewalks in Washington D.C.. At some point the Mississippi river’s current changed direction and temporarily diverted to flow back upstream. This redirection formed what is now known as Reelfoot Lake.
There were not many people living in the immediate area at the time, as the area was a territory and not yet states, but the area impacted was larger than the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. It is an interesting read on Wikipedia and the references to other sources.
Today would be a different story, with potential disasterous results including deaths and injuries to thousands and the interruption to transportation (FEDEX primary hub in Memphis and other intermodal hubs in this area). Bridges over Mississippi river have been retrofit to “earthquakeproof” them and disaster prepardness drills are run every year, but I don’t think many people in my state are prepared, because they just don’t every think anything bad would ever happen. Oh, well I try to prepare, but I too still pray for the best.
I pray a New Madrid fault earthquake of great magnitude never happens and I pray for everyone in Japan.

    Kickagrandma,

Do you really think God stirred his fingers in the water to send a deadly tsunamia Japans way? Those who feel God is returning because a earthquake took place are unstable people.

If god was going to return he would have done it when hundreds of thousands of people were being burned in ovens or when millions were killed during other ethnic cleanisings, why would he come now?.

The bilbe just had a revision with text stripped and new words added, not a peep out of the followers, why?

Long ago priest were allowed to marry under the roman chatholic church, a queer pope changed all that and the words to the good book have been altered as well. I think You born agains are unlogical. Jesus and dinosaurs roaming at the same time, how stupid can you be. Science has proved this to be false. Funny thing is you dont believe in science but your up at the hospital taken scientific advice the moment you need it.

I beleive in God, just not some whack job who is gonna come down and killl everyone who does not abide by his teaching, that kinda sounds like moohammod if you ask me, hypocrits.

sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of it all. “jesus and dinosaurs”? “queer pope”? “changes in the bible?” must have missed all that at some point. Catholic marriage is a tradition/legality issue not a doctrine issue. I’m not doing to even address the jesus and dinosaurs comment.

Based on those comments, doesnt sound like much research has been done to look at whether Christianity is rational (and compatible with science by the way). Oh, and by the way, do some homework on early fathers of science like Newton, Kepler, Copernicus, etc. and hosts of others. Big Bible scholars who felt science was for the glory of God by the study of which God could be better known and understood by man, which has accomplished that in numerous ways.

Amazing how people never read up on the argument, but quickly spout off. What‘s So Great About Christianity by D’Zousa for a suggested good read.

Just read the Bible (not the new PC version) and make you’re own decisions. It’s really not important if dinosaurs and Jesus were here at the same time. It’s not important if Earth was created 5000 years ago or 5 million years ago. It’s not important if Mormons are descended from saints (man declares who’s a saint). In a nut shell, God has a plan to save Man from Satin’s plan for Man. My money’s says God wins, but that doesn’t mean all of Man wins. Don‘t worry about those that don’t believe in God, God probably doesn’t believe in them either.

God said you and many like you would curse him because of these events. There you go!

This trend is increasing since 2001. There is a chart at this site that reflects a rather flat line bar graph from the 70′s to 2000. 2001 it spikes and stays high each year after with 2008 being a high spike then a slight pull back from that in 2009. There is a cause to this of course. Our plant is being perturbed by something entering our solar system and we are not being told about it. Sun activity may be a cause as well. Die offs around the world continue but are going unreported in the MSM. Guys, this is a gradual and ever increasing warning to mankind that he does not have full control of his world.

At the same time we are in distress socially, politically, economically. Tell me again we are not witnessing with our own eyes what the Bible says about the last days. Jesus was not only a prophet but God incarnate who warned of this period because he could see the future and cause others to see it as well. We are now living it! Earth Quakes are a part of this. 2004 Big Wave, Haiti destroyed last year, New Zealand this year, volcanoes are more active, floods, fires and it goes on and on everywhere we look.

I beg anyone to tell me that in our generation this is normal or even in past generations. It is not and I don’t care that we have more camera and stations to report these things, it does not make these events happend more and they are.

A wave does not adequately describe any of this – “massive coast length ocean surge” might come close.

You can prepare all day long for earthquake, but when it happens offshore and produces this kind of water displacement, comparatively close to the coastline there’s not much you can do but get to an elevated position on ground or a sturdy structure. An awful lot of people will be found that could not have gotten high enough up or far enough away in time to escape the surge.

Best wishes and prayers for the victims.

I just wish I could be there to “mourn with those that mourn, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort.”

      @TSUNAMI-22

I pray for the Japanese and Kiwis (NZ). I agree with you, this “11” stuff is getting strange. I’m not worried about 5/21/11 or 12/21/12. However, 11/11/11 is an entirely different story. Sen Harry says that Social Security is balanced. I suspect that he doesn’t expect that many retirees with be alive after the Great Cleansing.

You know, truth without grace is legalism. I have yet to see any compassion in your posts.

Proves one point very clearly. Man cannot control nature but nature will control man in the end. Maybe all this hype about man destroying the earth can be summed up in one word…bull. Imagine sitting there watching a 23′ wall of water coming your way and not having anytihing to do those last moments but pray to God and ask for forgiveness and that your death be swift and painless.

God bless those who lost their lives today and bless those families who lost loved ones.

YES, TSUNAMI-22…YES!!! …but it‘s not just one’s, it‘s two’s as well. I started noticing an odd pattern on 1/2/07, and since then it has had a VERY odd way of showing up not only in life but in the Bible as well. I have seen the coincidence but it must be both 1‘s and 2’s for me to pay attention, and all you can do is have faith and do the work we are supposed to do…there is no predicting and the only preparation to do is keep the faith. :-) By the way, I had no clue about the Mayan thing of 12/21/12, when I started paying attention…when I did find out about the calendar and other prophesy’s it made my hair stand up on end! ;-)

The Blaze is just fear-mongering again…no need to fear! All is well!

actually the number of earthquakes is fairly constant. we humans are just getting better at monitoring them.

The reason there seems to be an increase of the magnitude of devastation, is the increase of population and the subsequent buildup of infrastructure (buildings, bridges, roads)

The new Madrid fault earthquake, in the early 1800′s, caused windows to break in Chicago and New York; and the Mississippi River to flow backwards for a little over a week. Just imagine what would happen now if a 9 or 10 magnitude struck in the same area! The Midwest has no preparation whatsoever. There would be utter devastation. This has nothing to do with an increase of earthquakes, and more to do with human preparation.
Even as tragic as this appears to our eyes, the Japanese are prepared for events like this, and will recover with minimal loss; compared to what it could have been.
