Ex-FBI Officer Claims She Saw a ‘Field of Angels’ Guarding the Flight 93 Crash Site on 9/11

Lillie Leonardi’s story may be unbelievable to some. But the former FBI officer, who retired after suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder linked to her role in the aftermath of the September 11 terror attacks, continues to stick by her story. Leonardi’s book, “In the Shadow of a Badge: A Spiritual Memoir,” makes the claim that she saw legions of angels guarding the Pennsylvania site where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed.
On the surface, it’s one of those stories that seems fictitious and too good to be true, but Leonardi, 56, who served as a liaison between the families of the crew and passengers killed on the flight and law enforcement officials, isn’t backing down from it. When she arrived at the site just three hours after the crash, encountering a scene that she vividly recalls, she was struck by numerous elements.
“I’m used to crime scenes but this one blew me out of the water. It just looked like the ground had swallowed up [the plane],” she recalls.
But aside from the unpleasant smells and sights, Leonardi saw something so startling that she decided to keep it to herself for fear that co-workers would think she had lost her scruples.

Lillie Leonardi (AP)
“That’s when I started seeing like shimmery lights…and it was kind of misty and that’s when I first saw, like, the angels there,” she explains. “And I didn’t say anything to the guys because you can imagine if I would have said, ‘I just saw angels on the crash site,‘ they’d have called the office and they’d have said, ‘She lost her mind and tell her to go home.’”
Here’s how she describes the stunning scene in her book:
On this day, the shimmer of light began to grow and was almost blinding. I looked again and the light began to evolve into a foggy white mist. The white mist then began to take shape. It moved and swirled in patterns of spectacular white light. All at once, the mist took full shape and I saw what appeared to be angels. There were angels standing in the open area to the left of the crash site. There were hundreds of them standing in columns. There was a field of angels emerging from the realms of the mist. They were Archangels with their wings arched up toward the sky.”
Rather than initially telling others about what she saw, the former FBI staffer decided to keep it to herself for about two years. After she started to suffer from the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder, she began confiding in a close circle of friends, telling them what she observed that day.
Watch Leonardi describe the scene:
As one could imagine, believing something that requires such a deep-seated faith is difficult. But it seems that at least some of those whom Leonardi confided in also believe her story. Kenneth McCabe, her former supervisor, is among the individuals who accepts her account of the “field of angels.” Now also a retiree, the 59-year-old is backing the details presented in the book.
“I believe her. I read the whole book,” he said in an interview with the Associated Press. “I know she believes 100 percent that’s what she saw. I know she‘s a sane person so I’m not going to discount what she says she saw.”
Now, Leonardi is looking for some healing. By sharing her story, she‘s hoping that’s what she’ll be able to find, while also driving home the fact that she wants readers to know that, despite the pain and devastation, God was present on 9/11. While she was raised a devout Catholic, the former law enforcement agent claims that she now practices “spiritualism.”
Of course, she can’t help but wonder why she — and not others — was permitted to see the angels. Certainly, she has no doubts about what she observed, but she finds herself stuck with the “Why?”
“To this day I know I saw those angels, I’ve never doubted that,” she said. “What I doubted was, why me?”

Posted on July 5, 2012 at 11:42amPersonally, I believe her. I, too, had an encounter with angels back in the early 80s when I had car problems very early in the morning. As I was driving, my car began stuttering as I had had car problems prior to getting on the expressway. I looked down at my gauges and suddenly nothing was working. The car went silent. Then, I looked up and saw them; 2 HUGE angels (front), 1 on each corner of my hood, looked like they were just ‘walking my car on the expressway. I glanced quickly in my rear-view window and there were 2 in the back. They were carrying my car. I think I went into a trance because the next thing I knew, I was home. The car was parked outside my house, in the driveway and stopped. I tried to start it and it was totally dead. I ran in to get my Husband and he came out to take a look. I didn’t dare tell him at the time about the angels. He looked under the hood and then asked me how I got home. When I told him I drove, he said that it was impossible and that all my belts, were either gone or laying there under the hood. He said it was impossible.
Then, I told him. We trust and love each very much and we are both followers of Christ. He believed me.
Angels DO EXIST and we will see them more and more as this age comes to a close and we will see them to give us hope and belief that there is something greater than ourselves. The doubters will be just that and will most likely never see any until they open their hearts.

Posted on July 5, 2012 at 12:25pm@ TODD P, Loved that book, but heard the story years before through a missionary from our church who worked with Wycliff Bible Translators, the group represented by the missionaries killed. Don’t remember the “angels” being mentioned originally, nor do I remember reading of them in other books written by Jim Elliot’s wife, Elizabeth, or Nate Saint’s wife, Rachel, who both replaced their husbands with the Waorani’s tribe, long after their husbands were killed.
However, this tribe were worshipers of “spirits in nature,“ as are so many other ”spiritually” oriented individuals who claim to have seen angels. Yet in the old Testatment and again in the new, angels are manifested to humans many, many times.
I don’t think we need to be “searching” for angels, as even Satan, the most beautiful Angel ever made by God, is known as a false “angel of light”! I do think if we seek the spirit world, we may be permitted to engage with the spirit world, but often to our own detriment–spirit posession is a big possibility if not a reality (as is so often mentioned in the Bible when unexplained illnesses and behaviors cannot be identified).
So, personally, I know God uses his angels for what He created them for, as His helpers. I know that Satan and one-third of the angels “rebelled” against God and have been given our Earth as their home until the end of time and they are defeated by the Son and his army. But, I don’t think we are supposed to be wrapped up in ang

I am very sorry you feel that way, but GOD HAS A REASON FOR EVERYTHING I cannot personally tell you why some see them and use them and some do not. I don’t have an answer. YOU SHOULD ASK GOD YOURSELF. If you ask earnestly, HE will lead you to the answer.
Personally, I don’t believe I really deserved the help, even though I read my Bible daily and pray daily, but we all have a personal angel AND a personal demon that are with us 24/7.
If your heart is dark, then I guess the demon wins out. If you heart is open or is in love with the Father, I guess the guardian angel wins out. They are just my thoughts.
I know you mean no offense and that is ok, too! MANY people will not believe and that is what makes us all so unique and different. THAT, IS WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT! We can agree to disagree without violence (I hope).
But, having said all that, I do pray daily for this country, for whomever I am led to pray for, and for those who ask me to, so as for children, I just don’t have an answer except to say that ALL CHILDREN who are not of an accountable age WILL BE WITH THE FATHER no matter what. I know that does not make you feel any better, but it is a fact. No one has the exact answer for what you are asking. But, know this, GOD WILL HELP THOSE WHO ASK. For those who do not because of pride or unbelief will NOT be helped. God knows the person’s heart and will consider that, as well.
So, just read me story with a smile. T

Unfortunately your perception of God seems to be that He should be “fair” in his help here on earth. This discounts that in THIS LIFE, ever since Mankind favored THEIR OWN WAY rather than God’s, we ALL suffer. God will relieve all suffering for his saints in heaven, but down here on earth, “..It is He that has made us, and not we ourselves…” (Psalm 100) He may work his will in whatever way He sees fit;The fact that we do not UNDERSTAND HIS WAYS does not make them WRONG!
I DO ask God to protect me and mine from suffering! But it is my place to ask, “according to His Will”, and OFTEN I have found that He WALKS WITH ME THROUGH the trial if He does not DELIVER me FROM it!
I just discussed this concept with my grandchildren this very week. My granddaugher is 6 years old, and loves to make cards and little books for people. When she made her last one, she asked me who she should give it to. I told her, “Chantel, you made that card; It belongs to you; – You may give it to whomever you wish.” Then I taught her about how God made us for His purposes; – and then the concept of His sending HIS OWN SON to purchase us back again!
“…The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness thereof…” (Psalms also)

I never saw wings. I saw HUGE men in white. I never saw a wing or I just never noticed wings. But, these men carrying my car were made 7 to 8 feet tall and larger than the largest (muscular and tall) person I have ever seen. I think I went into shock, so all the details didn’t come to me until later, when I sat down and thanked God for His divine help.
I did look around thinking everyone else saw them as I did. No one noticed as they never looked at me. Then, I thought I was hallucinating. That could not be because I made it home and my car was dead and it was impossible for me to get home without belts in my car. So, I PRAISE GOD FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR ME, but I have always believed in angels. I guess God wanted to uplift me and reinforce my beliefs.
As for those who call my story sickening because of the little kids suffering everywhere. Maybe those who doubt my story or other stories should get off their butts and ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING TO HELP OTHERS instead walking around blaming, criticizing and doubting the POWER OF GOD.
God does want HE wants, when HE wants, and with WHOM HE WANTS. Man has absolutely no control over what God does, so to doubt someone seeing angels IS CALLING GOD A LIAR.
Be careful…..be very very careful what you say about God or His people. HE WILL NOT LIKE IT. GOD IS ALSO A JEALOUS GOD.
Find out in the Bible WHY HE IS A JEALOUS GOD ALSO ,and not just a wonderful LOVING God.

Posted on July 6, 2012 at 6:22pmI believe that she saw legions of angels without a doubt!! As a nurse, I have seen and heard from dying patients that angels or demons have come into the room waiting to escort them to the other side. Or many times a loved one who has already passed will be present to escort the dying person. It is rather a common thing for nurses who work with those who are in the process of dying. If an angel or a family member is there waiting to escort you to heaven, it is a comfort for all and brings peace. I believe it is God’s gift to help remove the fear of death and the unknown. When I worked in a hospital it was tradition to leave the window opened for awhile when someone died as a gesture to let their spirit leave this world and go to the next. We all know spirits can go through doors and windows but it is still something we always did out of respect. I have known people who saw angels, including my own grandmother. There are many accounts of this and we should take comfort that God is watching and sending his messenger to help in a time of need. The Bible even talks about entertaining strangers and to be ready to help others and that you never know when you are entertaining an angel who was sent for a particular reason. And God is no respector of persons and will listen to cries for help from anyone since we are all His children. He loves all of us regardless of race or creed. We are like beautiful flowers that come in different shapes, sizes, varieties, colors, and scents.

Posted on July 6, 2012 at 7:32pm@THE_DOORS_OF_PERCEPTION, you stated that there are many children suffering in pain now & God didn’t send them an angel to help them? I know it is hard to understand why God allows suffering, especially in children. I have taken care of children that were terminally ill & what I do know is that God’s gives GRACE to these children & their families to help them endure, & grow closer to God. I have heard many families state that they could have never have gotten through their child’s illness & death without God, and that without God there was no hope of ever seeing their child again. There is one thing that every person on this planet has in common with everyone else–EVERY ONE WILL DIE. It’s your choice to believe what you want. I believe that suffering has meaning & is not in vain!. You ask why God didn’t send an angel to help the child, well I believe He does send these suffering children angels (along with their gaurdian angels)to help them get through the pain, not to take it away. Just as He sent His own Son an angel to help Him endure His suffering on the Cross.

Posted on July 8, 2012 at 10:40pmI have never been a church goer but I do believe in God and I have my own story to share about Guardian Angels. Years ago, before the seatbelt law was passed, my best friend and I were in his small Toyota Corolla. We were at a red light, it was raining, and inexplicably and without word to one another, we simultaneously put on our seatbelts. We drove a few blocks down the hill and got into a head-on collision with a truck. We both we unharmed. Weeks later I asked him why he put on the seatbelt that day and he was as mystified as I was. I have read numerous Near Death Experience books and take those who have them as being quite credible. After all, no matter the person’s religion or lack thereof, the reports worldwide are virtually the same. In January I got pneumonia that turned septic and was literally hours away from dying. My Nephew, fortunately for me, decided to stop by and say hi that night. He noticed that I was incoherant (blood pressure of 67/33) and was having great difficulty breathing so he called an ambulance and saved my life. Since then I have committed myself to appreciating the small things in life and not to get caught up in meaningless things. I take this woman’s story at face value and am thankful she chose to share it, despite knowing many would criticize her (even for her choice in eyeliner-really folks??). I have always lived according to one single saying, treat others how you would have them treat you.

Third, Simon is correct in discerning if mass hysteria is relevant to any claim of the movement of The Paraclete or sighting of angelic beings. Although, I wouldn’t attribute “mass hysteria” to a situation that involves a single person witnessing the event. Does the mental and emotional state of the person play into an extremely chaotic and traumatic event in how they process what they are experiencing? Of course, and that is proper. To have a “character witness” to back the persons veracity is also important, which she provides, and goes to the credibility of her story.

I doubt you will believe it a superstition WHEN YOU ARE ON YOUR DEATHBED or have already passed on. YOU WILL BELIEVE THEN – IN GOD only because of your unbelief, YOU WILL NEVER GET TO SEE HIM, only Satan. So, don’t feel sorry for me. I feel sorry for you.
Right and wrong actually came from the Bible. IT‘S NOTHING NEW AND THE ATHEISTS DIDN’T COME UP WITH IT. So, since God IS good then IT IS HE that created it.
I can prove there is a God. YOU CANNOT PROVE THERE IS NO GOD. You would have to be deaf, dumb, and blind to believe in nothingness and then I know even those who are mentally challenged who actually believe in God, so what does that make you? I wonder.

I assure there is nothing missing in my life. You don’t know me, your belief is the only thing that makes you think I am missing something because it tells you so. But I promise you I am not…I use to be Christian….a missionary in fact. I have brought many people to christ. I have never been happier in my life now.
That is the arrogance of the believers…knowing that I am not whole…even though you don’t know me at all. It’s really quite offensive…but I understand. Beliefs are powerful.
“Good” and “Bad” did not come from the bible and you can‘t prove that there is a god any more than I can prove that there isn’t. I’m not trying to disprove…I always wait for the evidence…there is no evidence of either so I will calmly wait. I am completely open for there being a god…as open as I am for a lot things that have yet to be discovered or known.
You should read about ancient civilizations….they had a pretty healthy moral compass way before the bible was even thought of. Read and seek knowledge.

Furthermore, this woman was investigating the crash of an airliner, in which thousands of pictures were taken, but she saw angels that nobody else saw, and that were not captured in any of the thousand pictures being taken, yet you still believe her? I am not one to lecture people about faith, as I could really care less about what someone else’s faith is so long as it does not affect me, but you guys have got to be the most gullible people on earth. What kind of God would allow a plane to crash, but then send angels after all the people are dead? It amazes me that you people can believe that an FBI agent saw angels at the sight were flight 93 crashed with nothing more than her word alone, but you cannot even entertain the idea that the government may have had inside knowledge of what was happening that day, even when presented with real information on the matter.

Posted on July 5, 2012 at 7:52pmTo whom it may concern: there are a lot of doubters, unbelievers, skeptics,…etc. on this site and it is understandable. What have you seen to make you believe in God? Some…a little, some…a lot, some…nothing. Who’s to blame? God blames the preachers. Jeremiah 23:1–woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture. Jer 23:11–both prophet and priest are godless… Jer 23:15-for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has spread throughout the land. Now for the bomb that will anger some…these so-called preachers, pastors, and priests in these pulpits are NOT called of God to be in the pulpit. What? Has God lowered his standards? Where is the power of the Holy Ghost being manifested? Where are those spiritual gifts? These standards was set by Jesus himself, passed on to the apostles, and many more after them. There are many unsaved preachers in these pulpits. Those that are saved are just that…saved. NOT chosen by God to be over the sheep. God reserves the right to choose his ministers himself, and those he chooses, he equips for the job! I ask again…when did the Lord lower his standards??? Well that’s not happening anywhere today hanner, you’re crazy!! My point exactly…the standard of the pulpit was NEVER lowered. Man has failed, not God. It is no big surprise to me that all of this confusion about God exists. The manifested power of God will authenticate the message and the messanger. It did in the early church.

Suicide not only happens to those who lose all hope, but to those who either do not believe there is a real Heaven and a real God. Some think they just go to sleep at death (NOT TRUE). Some believe that everyone goes to Heaven (NOT TRUE). NONE of us can determine where that suicide person will end up. Only God know that because the ONLY unforgiveable sin is one of NOT BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST at death. In other words, if you refuse to believe, then you will not enter Heaven. God is a God of justice and therefore he rewards those who believe in him and does not reward those who do not. Since God cannot look upon sin, no person who has sin can enter into Heaven, so that is why Jesus went to the cross for mankind. BUT, man must accept this. If he does not, he cannot and will not enter Heaven at death. GOD IS A GOD OF JUSTICE.
Angels are used to help mankind. God knows the heart and he knows what you will do or not do before you even know it, so this woman was open to God and is a believer. There is always a reason God allows man to see an angel and it is always for HIS glory and not man’s.
So, all you scoffers out there, that’s ok. Scoff away. You are only hurting yourself with your doubts, for someday YOU will die and either see God OR NOT and TODAY will determine YOUR OUTCOME.

An excellent book to read is called “HEAVEN” by Randy Alcorn. It explain EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT HEAVEN YOU WOULD OR COULD WANT TO KNOW, along with Biblical scripture to back it up.
So, if you do NOT believe in the Bible, then, I guess you won’t believe no matter what. If you doubt or do believe at all, THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ, ALONG SIDE THE BIBLE.
It is so good, I will not lend it out. It answers EVERYTHING, including about animal souls. Phenomenal book.
So, if you want to know what happens after death and what Heaven looks like, what you will be doing after death, etc., I suggest you check it out at your local library first before you consider buying it.
When my Mom died, my boss recommended it to me and I bought it. Besides the Bible, this book thrilled me to no end as a lot of people think that when we die we just float around in Heaven, sit in green fields and do nothing. WRONG.
Anyways, if you don’t believe, give it a read, maybe it will have something in it you can relate to. If not, well, I guess you will just go on thru life believing in nothing but yourself. And that will be too bad for you because God has given you many chances and if you continue the path you’re going, there won’t be any left. IT IS YOUR CHOICE. It is ONLY your choice. God will love you even up to the very moment after death that He tells you HE DOES NOT KNOW YOU because you refused to know HIM.

Unfortunately, I have opened my eyes to reality and I don’t ever want to go back to wishful thinking just to appease the innate desire in humans to see patterns that produce superstitions. To me there is something far more beautiful about reality and the nature of things, that can be touched, studied, verfied or proven wrong. That is the great thing about science it is always changing and checked and verfied. Science of course isn’t any where close to always being right but that is not the point. The same things that are right about Science are what is wrong about the bible. It is constant and never changing, that is why churches/believers are always having to square the hole to make things fit, and why the bible will always be wrong. The bible, is beautiful in some parts but to see it differently then any other book that was written by man gets people in a lot of trouble.

I absolutely believe that there is a place for science in Christianity, as believing God is the infinite creator of it. The order of the universe and the human body, nature, etc. Certainly, science is the basis of this…but used and manifested by His hand, first, not ours. The word you used, “innate”, is also another sign of His existance as human nature is such that it looks to something higher than self. That innate sense, as I believe, is God giving His creation an intellectual and spiritual guide to Him without forcing us. It is our choice. I appreciate your words, though, and I‘m sure you’re sorely missed within the Christian community, and definitely by Him. :)

Posted on July 5, 2012 at 9:34amIf they were angels, they certainly were not sent by God for the benefit of those killed. Those people died instantly and their souls were immediately transformed to either be in the eternal presence of God or suffer in hell depending on the decision them made while alive. Should an angel escort into eternity have been needed, that task was long accomplished by the time she got to the accident scene.
But let’s suppose that angels were present for the benefit of rescuers. If I had seen them, I don’t know about you. but my reaction would have been a bit less subdued than hers regardless of what I thought anyone would think about my reaction. I would have first ascertained that they were actually angels rather than demons by literally quizzing them if they worshiped Jesus Christ as the living God and savior of the world. Wrong answer and they are demons. But if they answered correctly, my job at the crash site would have ended right then and turned to worship and praise for God and his creations. That reaction would have been unmistakable and unhidden to anyone present.
Beyond that, I don’t recall anywhere in the Bible of angels appearing as amorphous mists. They always appeared either in their full angelic form or as humans and did so without first performing magic tricks.
So no, based on her reported reaction, I don’t think she actually saw angels.

As to the site…I was fortunate enough to be at the memorial at the Pentagon just one day before the 10th anniversary. It literally felt like I was walking on holy ground, which confused me, because it was such a devastating tragedy caused by real evil. Considering now this former FBI agent’s story, and the stories of others who worked at the site, it makes more sense.

Yet, neither of us mentioned it to each other or others for many days. Why, I can’t tell you. Maybe because it was so awesome to have seen. It was my guess this was a recently departed soul (angel if you will) who was hurrying to say goodbye to someone. Posted on July 5, 2012 at 9:19amBoth Old and New Testaments speak often of angels. They appeared, for example, to Abraham before visiting Sodom to try to find ten honest men. Jacob wrestled an angel and had a dream in which he saw angels ascending and descending upon a ladder. There was an angel stationed at the gates of Eden as Adam and Eve were cast out. There was the angel of the Annunciation, Gabriel—without whose presence it is difficult to visualize the Incarnation. There was the angel who appeared to John the Baptist’s father, angels who appeared outside the tomb, and angels who appeared to the faithful at the Ascension—not to mention angels who “ministered” to Christ so often in Scripture. These are far too many references to be simple embellishments, with far too much detail.
A thought to ponder: all of the men who wrote the books of the Bible were men capable of lying.

And the Bible was written by falliable men under inspiration of an infalliable God. 1500 years, over 40 authors and they all coincide with eachother? Sorry, that requires too much faith to believe it’s a coincidence.

I’m well aware of those examples, the difference is that they are recorded in the Bible-the only source us Christians can accept completely and fully. Thats the difference I’m trying to make. As you probably noticed in my comment, i pointed out that i wont say it ‘certainly did not happen’. But, we need to be careful. Especially in the world we are living in now, people are always looking to make an extra buck or a name for themselves and trust me, they will use Christianity to do it if they need to.
Thanks for the comment and take care.

To be certain of your claim you would have to be omniscient, that is, you would need to be present in the time that the Bible was being written and be inside the writers minds to know that indeed they weren’t inspired by God to write what they did. The Bible claims to be ‘God breathed’(inspired by Him), a person either accepts that as true or not. Of course we could go on all day about why we believe its true or why we don’t, but I’d rather not get into a heated debate.
Thanks for the comment though!

Posted on July 5, 2012 at 10:07amI, like others, am not certain as to whether or not I believe her. However, to say they didn’t do their jobs is to assume you know what their jobs were. I for one believe that everything happens for a reason, and God’s reasons may not always make sense, especially to someone who does not have His Spirit to lead them or guide them. I believe that 9/11 was a warning from God for this nation to turn back to God, or experience judgement. Based on what has happened over the past 10 or 11 years has only reinforced this belief. The wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and even Mexico; the loss of freedom that came with the Patriot Act, (as we see the constitution getting walked all over; Katrina; the housing market collapse; the economic collapse; the debt bubble that continues to grow at unprecedented rates which is going to pop if we do not act; and now the loss of our freedom through Obamacare. When I read the Old Testament, I see these kinds of patterns when the nation of Israel turns away from God, and it always ends with them losing their freedom for not turning back to Him. So is it possible that this lady was able to see God’s angels? Yes, it is possible. However her account makes me wonder because I have never heard of His angels appearing the way she states they appeared, like a mist or something.

I wish that would be so, but I don’t think so. I do believe even the Believers in our Lord Jesus Christ will have to go thru much before His return (I DO believe in the pre-trib rapture) – like separating the chaff from the wheat, so to speak. I do believe that we ARE in the end-times, but I also believe that He will not come for us for a couple more years, maybe 5 at the most, but IT IS CLOSE. There are still some things that have to happen, even though a lot of prophecies have been fulfilled. I do believe that America is falling and that even though we are praying THAT GOD INTERVENE, it is only slowing what the inevitable is. This is why you see NOTHING in the Bible about America. IT IS NOT MENTIONED. I have studied prophecy for over 35 years AND IT JUST ISN’T IN THERE ANYWHERE. America is going to fall and fall hard to evil. We can only push it back for so long if NO ONE IS PRAYING DAILY, EVEN ALL THE TIME, which I do every time the Holy Spirit leads me and lately, that is A LOT! I SO LOVE THIS COUNTRY.
But, I pray that God my faith stronger, and that He gives me wisdom about what is coming towards us all and that we are ready for it. One thing that MUST happen is that Christians will be mocked and ‘put on notice’. It is beginning to happen already. This is only the tip of the iceberg. STAND FAST TO YOUR FAITH in GOD. It is about to be tested big time in the next 5 years.

The Sacred Scriptures have revealed the proper names of only three Angels, all of whom belong to the Choir of the Archangels. The names are well known to all, namely: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael.
Jewish tradition and writing have up to 7. Ancient apocryphal literature of the Old Testament contains several other names of Archangels in addition to the three just mentioned. Like the sources themselves, these other names are spurious. Names like Uriel, Raguel, Sariel, and Jeremiel are not found in the canonical books of Sacred Scripture, but in the apocryphal book of Enoch, fourth book of Esdras, and in rabbinical literature. The Church does not permit proper names of Angels that are not found in the canonical books of the Bible. All such names that were taken from apocryphal writings were rejected under Pope Zachary, in 745. There must have been danger of serious abuses in this regard during that century, because a similar step was taken in a synod held at Aix-la-Chapelle in 789.

How in the world do you know what is a “real phenomenon”? Just because you haven‘t seen it surely doesn’t mean they don‘t exist in God’s creation. He is God……He can create anything He wants and show His creation to whoever He wants. Your original point was that “angels” don’t have wings. So….do you believe in wingless angels? Have you seen them?
Report Post »MemphisViking
Posted on July 5, 2012 at 12:16pm@ Simon – You don’t believe angels exist. If they don’t, then all the debate about whether they have wings is irrelevant. You seem to be trying to make a point that this woman was influenced by Roman paganism, and you’re completely discounting all of the posted Biblical references to angels with wings. The fact is, if angels don’t exist and she imagined it, then she, as an American, is FAR more likely to have been influenced by the Biblical version of angels than any Roman paganism.

Posted on July 5, 2012 at 12:22pm@COPATRIOT my “point” was a question to get people to think. I did not say angels did or did not have wings though you could have made that reference depending on your point of view. The argument that man’s view of angels having wings is better explained by the cross pollination of ideas in ancient times rather than God sending winged angels to Israel and pagan alike. Admittedly I wouldn’t presume to say what God could, would or should do. It is the height arrogance for anyone one to do so. What is an angel but a messenger from God. I have seen a wingless angel and she is my wife!

You’re being disingenuous. You were discrediting what this woman described when, in truth, you have no way of knowing what God may have shown her or whether she is making the entire thing up. You certainly have decided and are entitled to your opinion. Personally, I am skeptical of her claim.
However, your posts did project Roman paganism on her to suit your agenda and denounced her story by suggesting, via your question, that “angels” do not have wings. In that sense, you did limit what God could do and show if He so choose.
That said, using the Romanesque, modernized meaning of a sweet, considerate person to describe your wife was cute and a nice deflection. :-) Although, that definition has no resemblance to the God-sent angels who are messengers as well as warriors.
