‘Ex-Gay’ Flyer Stirs Controversy at Maryland High School

A flyer sent home with some Maryland high school students sparked controversy this week because of its message to teenagers that no one is “born gay.”
The one-page flyer, from a group called “Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays,” was distributed to students at Albert Einstein High School in Montgomery County, Md. and claimed that each year, “thousands of people with unwanted same-sex attractions make the personal decision to leave a gay identity,” Washington Fox affiliate WTTG-TV reported.
“PFOX,” the flyer said, “promotes diversity for the ex-gay community. Ex-gays demonstrate that those with unwanted same-sex attractions can seek help and information on overcoming their feelings.”

According to WTTG, the letter was sent home in compliance with the school board’s policy on flyer distribution, which says that if a group can prove it is a nonprofit organization, it can distribute flyers to students four times a year.
Karen Yount-Merrell, a clinical social worker, told WTTG she was disturbed when one of the flyers came home with her son.
“I don’t like it,” she told the station. “Everything in this flyer make its sound like the goal is to be [an] ex-gay, [or an ex]-lesbian. It is not embracing of a different orientation. It reiterates a societal view that there‘s something ’wrong‘ with you if you’re not in the norm. If you aren’t heterosexual.”
She continued, “Teenagers have a hard enough time dealing with who they are and feeling good about themselves.”
PFOX board member Peter Sprigg disagreed, saying the flyer is just calling for “tolerance” of a different view on homosexuality.
“If people were to actually read the content of the flyer that we’re distributing, they will see there is nothing in here that is insulting or even critical of homosexuals,” Sprigg told WTTG. “All it is telling kids [is] that you don‘t have to be gay if you don’t want to be.”

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 11:14amCommunists and cultural engineers NEED the homosexual issue to blind our minds and harden our hearts, and turn us against morality, virtue, and manliness. That’s why this issue has been pushed by them. It’s a useful idiot situation. Like evolution is promoted despite all the scientific evidence against it. Darwinism is brain dead and deceptive. It’s a con game, a mind control game, promoted for propaganda purposes only.

I don’t care or get offended by someone who makes gay jokes or uses the word ***, it’s when people do it seriously that society has a right to tell you to shut your mouth. If you don’t like it, get all your friends that you consider “normal,” buy a house and never leave it. Like I said, you’ll have your precious security bubble of comfort without those disgusting shameful gays around, and never have to show some human sympathy and understanding for those different from you, how wonderful!

Why should anybody “embrace” a mental illness? That’s idiotic to expect that they would. I mean, what person in his right mind wants to be sick?
Radical leftists perverts who like their disgusting illness have twisted the situation around to appear as if they are helpless victims. They are not. They’re no different than an alcoholic or a dope addict. They don’t want to get well, because they like doing what they do, and they then try to convince others, with their lies and deceit, that it’s the way they were born.
Homosexuality is like every other issue on the left. It is obscured with leftst spin and lies. The worst thing about it, however, is that the people afflicted want others to accept them as they are as just an “alternative” lifestyle, because they’re too corrupted to want to change.
The great tragedy here is that corrupt demagogues cater to this small segment of the population in order to get their votes by allowing them to destroy the lives of children by permitting adoptions.
This situation is one of the greatest outrages of all time, and corrective measures should be initiated as soon as possible, which will probably be when the country begins its split into various enclaves.
God pity the poor kids until then.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 10:53amI think many of us are forgetting what God says about this…He doesn’t call us to be heterosexual or bi-sexual or homosexual; he calls us to be holy – in all aspects of our lives. If what you‘re doing separates you from God it is better to cut off that part of your life then to indulge it as it will keep you from God’s presences. If you’re inclined to same sex attraction, God understands that, but he also requires you to resist it because being perfect and holy, God cannot tolerate sin in his presence. This is the whole reason Jesus was sent to die for our sins. His blood paid the atonement for our fallen natures and it is only through acceptance of him and the pursuit of a holy (not perfect) life that we can be with God forever. This, in now way, excuses violence, hatred or any form of ugliness toward anyone who struggles with this issue. In the end, Jesus said we are to love one another.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 4:18pmI am in the upper 3 percent of the most educated people in the world and a Christian. As a psychologist I know that homosexuality is not a mental disorder. Also, that sexuality is determined at the ages between 5 and 6. The Old Testament talks about homosexuality as a sin but not homosexual love. Jesus never mentions homosexuality ever! I am not sure why people pick and choose certain Bible quotes that later on in the same text commit sin by eating selfish, wear 2 types of clothing, or eat pork. The latter has changed with the times. So, should homosexuality and it is.
Report Post »Let me paraphrase something for you:
Acts 8:37-39 This man happened to be reading the prophet Isaiah. Philip explained to him that the person Isaiah was talking about was Jesus Christ, and this good news moved him to the core. They come up on some water. Now, remember, this is in the desert. There is no water in the desert. Luke, who wrote this, felt this was a “God-thing.” And the eunuch asked Philip “What is to prevent me from being baptized?” It’s an interesting way to phrase the question, but yes, there was something. The law. the fact that he was sexually unfit. But Philip was shaped more by the Spirit than by the law; more by the love of Jesus Christ than the legalism of Moses. And Philip baptized the eunuch and the eunuch went on his way rejoicing.
FYI – a eunuch in those days was a homosexual. Also, the word homosexual was not even a word until 1879.

Report Post »Dan
Posted on February 4, 2012 at 10:56pmDirector, thank God you’re not a theologian! Eunuch does not mean homosexual, it means that the man was a slave that was castrated so he could serve his master‘s wife without any concern of sexual activity with the master’s wife. The book of Corinthians lists homosexual as a sin and it goes on to say, “such were some of you, but now you are washed, now you are sanctified, now you are justified..” (I Cor. 6:11). The operative phrase there is “such were” – meaning that they are no longer homosexuals. Becoming a child of God means being washed, sanctified, and justified by the blood of Christ’s sacrifice and you become a new creation. Remember Jesus’ admonition to those He healed – “go and sin no more”. You can move on from sin and change your behavior. That’s the genuine power of God. Don’t deny it or downgrade it – you‘re adding to the word of God things that don’t exist and things He didn’t intend. The process of sanctification and the position of justification is what allows you to move forward – being washed is what gives you the new start. May you have ears to hear.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 10:32amAMEN! And most people have a same sex attraction during puberty. Your hormones are all revved up with no place to go, and your emotions will light upon almost anyone. Administrators of schools for boys only or girls only knew this, once upon a time. And they knew that if you ignore it, most kids outgrow it. Just because you get a crush on someone of your gender at 12 or 13, it doesn‘t mean you’ll only ever be attracted to the same sex for the rest of your life. Politically correct nonsense also keeps us from asking questions about same sex attractions, such as how often it is caused by abuse by an adult in childhood, such as abuse by the same sex parent leading to an aversion to that gender, or sex with a same sex parent leading you to think that you are gay because they were attracted to you, as if the fault lay in you instead of them. We also aren’t allowed to ask if there might be some underlying mental illness, such as bipolar, leading to the homosexuality. If we are denying people therapy or medical treatment in order to prop up a political agenda, that is horribly self serving.

Many do actually state that experimentation is very common among puberty… They go on to claim that experimentation doesn’t automatically make some one gay, straight or bisexual… That it is up to these “confused” individuals to decide when they are ready what their own orientation is… What ever they figure out they are, “they were born that way”, it just took time to figure that out…

Sexual “attraction” could well be an attraction of true “friendship” while going through physical changed. In our modern society sexuality has become the accepted form of friendships. So it should be no surprise that some youth get stuck in adolescent experimentation. Young girls have pajama parties long before they are allowed to make lasting friendships with the opposite sex. Young boys are active in male related activities even longer then the girls.

I was emotionally attracted to men, and thought they were cute in an elementary school crush kind of way, in 2nd grade. When puberty came around there was a sexual side to it, just as what happens to heterosexual boys. There was never any corner, and confused friendship, anything to mature out of, my experiences and those of others parallel those of heterosexuals from a young age, just with the same sex. But you have to make such stories so that we can be portrayed as sick and abnormal as possible.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 10:18amHomosexuality is better associated with alcholism or other addictions. Inside of Christianity or other faiths that say sex outside of marriage is wrong, a homosexual lifestyle is obviously wrong, as is pre-marital sex, orgies, wife swapping, “cheating” on your spouse. If someone’s entire identity is defined by who they are attracted to or enjoy spending time with, that person is emotionally unbalanced. As recently as the 1970′s homosexuality was identified as a mental disorder and was only removed from the books as such to remove the stigma and therefore make treatment for homosexualtiy easier, or so the activists said. If you view homosexuality as an addiction, all of this becomes very clear. In addition, most homosexuals had a negative sexual experience as a child or a horrible relationship with his or her father. The actual percentage of homosexuals in a given poplulation has always been 2%, which by the way is the same percentage statistically for just about any abnormality.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 10:09amGay is a genetic defect. Since homosexuality does not continue a genetic line it must be a defect. Neither nature nor God allows genetically defective material to go forward. Many miscarriages are due to genetic defects in the fetus. There are some genetically transferable diseases that pose no immediate danger to the fetus that are allowed to continue for years before they kill. These genetic diseases could be cured in one generation, if the carriers did not reproduce. Most genetic defects kill. However, those related to homosexuality are adapted to allow life to continue through the one generation. No wonder so many gays and lesbians are so unhappy. Life ends with them.

It is unacceptable and society needs to oust beliefs like yours just as we oust beliefs all the time, why don’t YOU man up, take a midol, and live your life happily without worrying about my partner and I loving each other enough to get married by the government and raise a child? Do you not see the pathetic bitchiness in your own post? lmao

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 4:44pm@gaif2 -You just keep making demands that society has to accept your disgusting perversions..YEA – I hear you whining, but it does not seem to change me knowing , that what you keep trying to force on society, is still a perversion!! Next!!

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 5:06pmThat’s fine, Ready, there are plenty of much more reasonable understanding people out there, and acceptance will only grow from generation to generation. Just don‘t complain yourself when my demands are met and society at large rightfully tells you you’re the sick one, not me. Your own kids probably will when they grow up, how’s that for a gay agenda?

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 5:45pm@Raif – Time will tell if some of your predictions about your gay agenda, becoming more acceptable through the generations, are factual ! Yes i would actually agree that the world in general does seem to be becoming more Godless, and Perverse! This world is not of my final home, so I will continue my God given responsibilities to teach my Children, that homosexuality is Perverse, and Immoral, and is a Sin and Abomination in the eyes of there God! How some men justify this immoral act is not my final concern!

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 5:53pmI am not saying that you don’t have the right to decide what to believe, you have twisted my words. Agnostics have already turned their backs on religion, whether they want to admit it or not, I have known plenty of agnostics in my life to know this. What I am saying is that you cannot try to use God, mine or anybody elses, to justify your actions knowing that those actions are a sin amongst religions and to God. You have also stated that you want respect for you and your partner…well buddy in order to get respect you have to show respect and defamation of God because you cant accept that YOUR actions will not be accepted by God is complete disrespect to Him and His people!

You misunderstand me too. Each sect, and to a certain extent each family and individual, has their own view of what they think God to be. Obviously I’m not referring to your God of the Bible, or anyone else’s, just my own interpretation of what I believe a higher power would be like. The Bible you follow is someone’s interpretation of what they believe God to be, and the different churches each manage to interpret that interpretation differently. The same follows for every other organized religion in the world, as well as individuals such as my self who don’t deny a higher power and can speculate spiritually. So if you can justify calling me immoral because of your interpretation of a higher power, it is not unfair for me to do the same. I don’t mean to attack your God or anything, but I would be dishonest with you if I didn’t express that I think He seems far too human, arbitrary, and petty.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 9:27amIf Gays are not born gay then Heterosexuals are not born heterosexual. You choose to like the other sex? Horse Feathers. You can’t turn someone gay, you can’t turn someone heterosexual. You are what you are. There needs to be MORE critical thinking from us at the Blaze Blog, not narrow mindedness and bigotry.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 9:14amWe choose to sin, we are not born gay any more than we are born murderers. When I hear someone say they were born gay, I ask them if then we should let out all murderers from prison because they were born murderers…They cannot see the connection. They are truly decieved. They have a sickness called…INFLUENCE from others and they spread the influence to others to join their sin.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 9:37amI used to think that way that gays choose to be gay but my nephew who’s gay told me who would choose to be beaten and harassed constantly? No I think it’s just the encoding in the DNA that determines sexual preference.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 11:07amIm not so sure. Far too many adopted children have murdered their adoring parents for no good reason. If not born to kill, born with a predisposition for narcisisim, psychotic behavior and whatever else personality disorders. Some people are not fixable in the end as they choose to let their disorders dictate their existence. I may be using the word “choose” loosely. We can’t really get all the way inside the brain, of say, a pedifile. We just know from experience that the vast majority of pedifiles can not and do not control their urges. When it comes to them, I admit that I could care less about their ability to choose or not. I just want them gone. Them, murderers and rapists. Gays? I feel much less judgemental…more like, live and let live.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 10:19amThe point is that all viewpoints are aired out in this society and people can take them or leave them. People like Bill Maher can get away with being insulting, disrespectful and demeaning and everyone is suppose to suck it up and be amused by his commentary, but libs and gays are generally against this ex-gay flyer?? Give me a break…..there is no comparison between how conservatives and christians are attacked day in, day out and this flyer that simply states a viewpoint. No one has to like or accept it…the choice is theirs.

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 9:57pmYou will never be able to tell before birth because it is a choice, it is not genetic. There is no “Gay Gene.” It is a choise to go against nature and live a perverted life.
Hypothetically, if it were ever to be detected before birth, it is a birth defect, and any good liberal abortionist would do the right thing and kill the baby. Hey, if it’s O.K. to kill a healthy normal baby, why not much more justified to kill a defective one? What “good” person would allow a sick defective mamal to suffer such a life?
