Ex-NY Giant David Tyree Says Gay Marriage Could Lead U.S. Down Path Toward ‘Anarchy’

Some former Giants players are going rogue and inserting themselves in New York State’s politically-hot gay marriage debate. Most recently, David Tyree, a former wide receiver, has come out strongly against legalizing same-sex marriage.
In a video recording for the National Organization for Marriage, Tyree explains his belief that gay marriage wouldn’t be morally right for America. Though he admits that it is a “strong word” to use, he says the New York bill’s legalization could guide the nation down a path towards “anarchy.” According to TIME’s NewsFeed he believes that legalization would have profound ramifications:
“Marriage is one of those things that is the backbone of society. So if you redefine it, it changes the way we educate our children, it changes the perception of what is good, what is right, what is just.”
Tyree also stands against same-sex adoption. He says:
“…you can‘t teach something that you don’t have. So two men will never be able to show a woman how to be a woman. That’s just, for lack of better terms, common sense.”
You can watch Tyree’s video below:
His anti-gay marriage ad was made in response to former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan’s video pronouncement in support of gay marriage. In Strahan’s video, he says, ”It’s unfair to stop committed couples from getting married.” You can watch his pro-gay marriage public service announcement below:
What do you think? Should pro-athletes be jumping into such a heated social and political debate?

Hard to argue that same-sex marriage supporters are a “radical minority” when a variety of polls show more Americans in favor of marriage equality than against it, especially about 65% of the under-30 crowd, according to Gallup. With that kind of support base, same-sex marriage laws are likely to be passed in every state within ~15-20 years.

Posted on June 17, 2011 at 2:15pmFrustrated,
The problem with that statement is it leads to total chaos. Would you want adults marrying kids? Or how about marrying pets? Why don’t we just extend all the benefits of marriage to dating couples? I really like my Lord of the Rings DVD collection. Maybe I could marry it? It’s simply ridiculous. For that matter, let’s question every moral law. What’s really wrong with murder? I mean if it doesn’t directly effect me, then it should be ok right? What about stealing, cheating, and lying? I’d like a new Ford Mustang, but can’t afford one. Why can’t I have it? It’s only fair right?
Despite all the pop-culture BS, the nuclear family (a father and a mother) is crucial in raising a child. Personally, I think it’s kind of important that a civilization promote itself. Hey, that’s just me… The stuff you care about- doesn’t really bring a baby into the world now, does it? It doesn’t offer any tangible benefit to society.
Marriage should be removed from state and federal laws/regulations, altogether. You cannot redefine marriage, that’s like redefining any other thing considered holy, It’s simply absurd.
The real truth is, people who support gay “marriage,” aren’t really for gay marriage. They simply have an animus toward Christianity, and want to see its most hallowed institutions torn asunder. It’s the same with abortion. Nobody really thinks killing babies, ending a life, is a good idea. Your problem isn’t with this or

Report Post »better red than dead

Well, to be honest, homosexuality (which includes lesbianism) is actually found in nature rather frequently in some 1,500 animal species, largely concentrated around mammals and birds, which are some of the more “socially reliant” animals. Though more research needs to be done, there’s a lot of belief that homosexuality works in a sort of “pair-bonding” way to help hold together some of these animal societies. Since it’s so prevalent, and since it doesn’t appear to have disappeared via evolution (it’s quite possible for homosexuality to exist in subsequent generations, a la recessive genes) one could assume it’s somehow helpful for the species.

I just fail to see the link people draw between allowing same-sex marriages and the end of the United States, especially when most research has shown that children raised by same-sex couples are just as well-adjusted as any others.

Posted on June 16, 2011 at 7:49pmI support pro-athletes’ free speech, so it’s good they feel free to speak their minds.
As to the topic: Yes, acceptance of gay relationships, regardless of whether legislation is involved, will harm society as Tyree says – we are all partially defined by our genders.
But please do not miss that the reason we’re even having this discussion is because government is involved in marriage to begin with. There were no powers regarding marriage given to the federal government by our Founders in the Constitution because it’s none of the their business.
The way to combat the spread of acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle is to educate people. And if someone wants to still be gay, then that’s their inalienable right, just like it’s our inalienable right to have little to nothing to do with them if we want.
But we can’t use government to force someone to stop doing with their own freedoms what they want to do to themselves.

When did you ask? My views align best with Ron Paul. As a distant second, Romney. You exchange more of the good ideas for the popularity necessary to win. Combine them together, where BOTH sides haven’t made a mockery of Paul, and don‘t have Romney’s socialist healthplan and Mormonism baggage, and you’d have a perfect candidate. I think that if they stay focused on fiscal issues, yes, they could win. Possibly the ONLY ticket (potentially another VP, but as said, I like Ron Paul’s ideas).
Palin is far too polarizing, and with her behavior the past two years (quitting her governorship, embarking on reality TV), I feel she’s a new Donald Trump.
Bachmann and Santorum have no chance with independents.
Cain has no chance with anyone.
Perry and Pawlenty are relatively unknown except in their local areas. Pawlenty could be make an acceptable VP candidate.
Gingrich? He has people on all sides hating him – his only benefit is name recognition, but almost all the recognition is negative.
Honestly, I like Romney. I liked him more than McCain in 2008. Do his values fall in line perfectly with my own? No. But I never expected a perfect match. I do know that fiscally he’s more aligned with myself than any democratic candidate. Socially, he’s not as extreme as many other candidates. No. His point is that there is a reason for kids to come out of the union of a man and a woman. Men and women are wired differently, think differently, behave differently, and everything else down the line. A kid’s best development is achieved when she/he can have the influence of both the male and female parent, plain and simple.
Does that mean that if one of the parents dies the kid won’t be able to be raised ? Absolutely not. However, there is a huge impact in their life. While you bring up in what environment Tyree was raised, you have no idea how growing up without a dad impacted his personal life.
And this has nothing to do with love. Gay activists always bring up the “a gay couple can love a kid just as much as an heterosexual couple”. The issue is not love- everyone can love. The issue is that the growth process is not just about love but the psychological and developmental process that comes from having a male/female influence.

Who‘s to say it wasn’t harder for him to understand the role of men while growing up in that household?
Besides, depending on his mother’s understanding of the need for young men to have male role models, it may be that Tyree was afforded the opportunity to benefit from mentors outside of his family.
So yes, his single mother household left something to be desired in the way of male identity, but as bad as that is, it is not as destructive as living in a gay household.
