Exam Extreme Pics: Chinese High School Students Get IVs to Stay Alert While Studying

It’s finals time for students around the globe and a variety of cramming methods are being employed, from incessant note copying to pulling all-nighters, but the most extreme method is being used by Chinese students who are hooking up intravenously to fluids that are said to keep them healthy.

Watch this ITN News report on the questionable technique taking place at Xiaogan No.1 High School in Hubei province:

Geek.com reports the school’s Director of the Office of Academic Affairs going by the surname Xia saying the IVs are for students who felt “unwell” but wanted to continue studying for their “Gao Kao,” the National College Entrance Examination. The drip is said to be an amino acid nutritional supplement and is not considered harmful.

“The Ministry of Tofu” (via Geek.com) — a blog site that seeks to “boost mutual understanding between China and rest of the world” by covering relevant news – reported Xia as saying students were even given a subsidy of 10 yuan (about $1.58) for the amino acid drip. It states the IV was originally administered in the infirmary but in the essence of saving students from going back and forth, they brought the IVs in to the classroom.

The photos showing the scene were first uploaded to the microblogging site in China “Weibo“ by the user ”CHImushroom.” The entrance exam will take place within the first couple weeks of June.

    What a great way to create human automotons. I worked and went to school with Chinese. They are very robotic and socially inept. They all had the social skills of an obnoxious 12 year old boy, with sky high self esteam and no ability to think for themselves. They were good at robotic skills of memorization but could not create something new. That is why they must steal everything they can to advance. The human termite colony of China is the model for the new world order for all of us. It is being implemented as we speak.

    Well…, I HAVE actually considered this for IV coffee. It would save all of those trips to the coffee pot. I suppose a complimentary catheter and jug would round out the arrangement.

    Ahhhh Pretty sure this is considered doping and this WAY extreme. There is a little thing of quality of life as well. China can and has punished people for not achieving to the standards they want. This isn’t about kids being motivated to learn. This is about the agenda of their society at best and government force is more likely. There are people out there that want school seven days and a week and not summer vacation. USA may not be the most intellegent but we will again if we encourage out of the box resourceful thinking and encouraging the smartest most talented people if we show them they can make money and succeed here. CHINA is not better than the USA and we don‘t have to hook our kids up to IV’s of GOD KNOWS WHAT to keep them performing in tests so China can claim highest achieving smartest young people. RIDICULOUS!!!!

    Depends on what’s in it. If it’s a nice concentration of saline for dehydration, vitamins, minerals, and amino’s, for overall health; then I highly recommend it.

    It’s probable that these highly motivated students are not eating properly or keeping hydrated because they are studying intensely. They are also paying for it with their own money.

    Where’s the problem?

    What a different mindset. In China, students are so motivated to learn that they are taking extreme actions to achieve, while in the US, government schools are resorting to paying students cash just to entice them to make any effort at all. No wonder they own us.

      You know that higher education is just a front for a system designed to keep individuals from achieving wealth and greatness beyond their “class” don’t you? There is absolutely no reason why I should have to be taking expository writing classes from socialist Swiss nationals (no joke) in order to get a degree in mechanical engineering. There is also no reason why higher education cannot be self paced so that it doesn’t take 4+ years to absorb all the “necessary” material. Hell, even the Marines are going to self paced learning. That way, those that want to succeed and move on will be able to do so and those that need more time to learn a subject before being tested on it can have it. Our current educational system is a joke and China is an even bigger joke because they are modeling their system on our broken system and hooking kids up on IV’s to try to make it work.
