Rep. Bobby Rush Explains Hoodie Incident to The Blaze: Martin Killed for Wearing Hoodie in ‘White Neighborhood’

In an exclusive interview with The Blaze, Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) explains what motivated him to break House rules and put on a hoodie during a chaotic speech on Wednesday. It was a speech that eventually led to him getting yanked from the podium.

When asked on Wednesday afternoon why he wore the hoodie on the House floor, he responded, “To demonstrate my outrage of Trayvon Martin’s Murder.”
“The reason he was killed was because he was a black man wearing a hoodie in a white neighborhood,” he added.
“I also wanted to demonstrate that the hoodie is nothing but a piece of clothing. It should not be the cause of someone losing their life.”
Rush also appeared on CNN where he actually donned the hoodie again. In that interview, he talked about the murder of his own son in 1999:

Then all the immediate statements that a young kid with Skittles and an iced tea was shot in cold blood by a white man in a white neighborhood. And that is the image and conclusion most folks have despite the actual facts. And thats the image the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons do not want to do anything to change. Its fits into their agenda which is beyond getting justice.

Then the neighborhood complained because they could never get a cab, or pizza delivery, or NOPD to go in to the hood. This was before Katrina. Post Katrina it’s worse. Glad I moved away, the mayor made it clear to me that his, “chocolate city” had no room for whites.

But, let me also mention that a Chinese delivery man was accosted and beat within an inch of his life in a black neighborhood here in Richmond, Va a number of years ago. While most of the neighbors did NOT respond to his cries for help, a black man did–took him in, called police and EMS. Sadly, 95% of black people carry the burden for the 5% miscreants that we ALL read about in the newspaper! Even sadder, is that it APPEARS than many white people don’t discriminate–when they should–to differentiate the 95% law abiding, God fearing, red-blooded, patriotic Americans from the misguided, ‘fatherless’ (thanks to our progressive social support systems), poorly educated (in spite of free education, free busing, and tenured teaching jobs ofter reserved for the ‘in-crowd’! Please, ALL, let’s discuss our differences–I’d bet that in most cases, those differences are of ‘perception’ and NOT of knowing the difference between right from wrong, justice from injustice, fair from unfair and opportunity from drudgery!

It is called a description of the robber. It isn’t racial profiling if you all dress that way when you commit a crime? Might I suggest if you are going to commit a crime, ya’ll might want to dress differently.
I would expect nothing different if a white man came into a black neighborhood and started raping women and the description was a white man wearing a hoodie? If I saw you in my neighborhood and you fit the description, you better believe I am going to watch you and I might follow you. If you then attack me or make threatening gestures, you might find yourself on the wrong end of me protecting myself.
Why was Trayvon in the white neighborhood? Who was he visiting that lived in that area? Did he have a reason to be there or was he scoping out the area. So many question, so few anwers.

Every time I turn on the news in Memphis I see a person (black or white) in a hoodie hiding their face while robbing a 7-11 or gas station or raiding a Wal-Greens. I tend to think that those wearing Hoodies are up to no good.
Just like I think anyone wearing their head wrapped in a towel when they get on a plane is up to no good.
Just like I think any running suit wearing grease ball with chest hairs hanging out and gold chains is up to no good.
Stereotypes spawn from experience and reality. It isn’t racism it is experience. I have a dream that one day my children will be judged based on the content of their character…… Well if the media and modern sitcoms show what to expect from various ethnicities then don’t be surprised by our stereotypes.
