Exclusive: Sen. Jim DeMint Calls for AG Holders Resignation on GBTVs Real News

Sen. Jim DeMint on Wednesday publicly called for Attorney General Eric Holder to resign during his appearance on GBTV's "Real News from The Blaze." (GBTV)

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) on Wednesday officially joined the chorus of GOP members calling for Attorney General Eric Holder to resign.

DeMint, a Tea Party favorite, appeared on GBTV’s “Real News from The Blaze” and said he has lost confidence in Holder amid the ongoing congressional investigation into Operation Fast and Furious.

DeMint spokesman Wesley Denton confirmed to The Blaze Thursday this is the first time DeMint has publicly called for the attorney general to step down.

“I have lost confidence because there are a lot of things that have happened, his raid on Gibson Guitar, like they were a bunch of criminals, I mean — these things, in addition to just the botched Fast and Furious. Some of the lawsuits against our state and what they’ve done in this administration, aside from just the Justice Department, like the NLRB attacking Boeing in South Carolina, and that’s affiliated with the whole justice perspective of this administration,” DeMint said.

“I don’t have very much confidence that we can get justice out of this Justice Department,” he said.

“So are you prepared to call for his resignation?” GBTV’s Amy Holmes asked.

“I think I already have,” DeMint answered.

    I don’t quite understand the outrage over this. If I recall, people are shot by people, the guns are not at fault. If you can prove to me a Mexican drug dealer would not have had a gun except for this program, then maybe you’d be on to something.

    It’s horrible someone died, but this is a program that has been done successfully for decades. Was it run poorly? Perhaps. But it’s hardly treasonous.

      You’re absolutely wrong. Fast and Furious was not around for decades and just began with the Obama Administration. Project Gunrunner, which predated it, originated in 2006, but not one gun ever crossed the border or was intended to with it. The Obama Administration saw a bloody opening to attack the Second Amendment with the program and changed it’s focus, allowing THOUSANDS of guns to be bought and walked across the border to drug dealers.

      You are exactly right. The only explanation for not tracking the guns is that Obama wanted to crack down on our RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. You do not ORDER the stoppage of tracking thousands of weapons by mistake… EVEN THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION IS NOT THAT INCOMPETENT, AND IF THEY ARE SHOULDN’T THEY BE IMPEACHED?!?

      Yes the real target here is the peoples right to bear arms. It’s the people that should be pissed here. Democrats want total control with no recourse and the elimination of arms is a hinge pin in their control plans.       You are correct SOUP they wanted to use this as an example of why tougher guns laws were needed….They didn’t count on a few good men(probably the last one) coming foward with the operation they also didn’t count on Gun store owners coming foward as well. I totally agree. I also agree that if Mexican drug lords wanted guns, they can get them anywhere, without waiting for DROS (like the rest of us law abiding citizens have to do). So, why would the justice department sanction gun running across our borders and put gun retailers in a position to sell to known criminals? I know you are dying for the answer… it was a setup. They didn’t plan on getting caught. This would have made great headlines, “American gun retailers sell guns to Mexican drug cartel. Congress drafting legislation to put further oversight on gun retailers and ban multiple long gun sales…”. The media would have eaten it up and we would have had yet another crisis that our blessed communist government needs to attend to. Get the picture?

      I believe there are several issues here that make this incident dispecable, one an American died becuase of the actions of Fast and Fury, two the obvious intentional cover-up that has been going on and three AG Holder’s cotinued scooff at Congress and his “I’m above all this” attitude. At some point he must be held accountable at the very least he must be made to respond to the Terry family and the American as to why and how this could happen.

      The guns are amoral. The immoral part of Fast and Furious, is they knowingly encouraged guns to be sold to known criminals of a foreign country with no apparatus or INTENT to track where they went or who was the end user. This is what is known in the legal system as “Aiding and Abetting” a murder. That is not only treasonous, it is a felony. All of the earlier tactics used by other administrations had some means of tracking the weapons and rarely if ever were they allowed to cross the border. This was an INTENTIONAL crime perpetrated on the American people by our own justice department. Holder has not given any proof whatsoever that there was any plan AT ALL to keep track of these weapons or to keep them from WALKING. With your approach, there would be nothing wrong with issuing handguns to the felons in prison.

    Romney is calling for and campaigning for automatic federal minimum wage increases each year, the liberal democrat is showing more all time. What happened to his rhetoric about the power should stay with the state? He talks out of both sides of his mouth! Minimum wage increases hurt the poor person most, they help know one. The retailers raise prices of retail products in all stores as soon as the congress starts talking about wage increases to offset the increase in salaries of their employees. DUH!

    I think Holder is too well protected and will never be prosecuted. He’ll ride it out and ride the wind to his next destination outside the Obamaites when this term ends. He has no real and constant worries about this.

    The Republicans will give up as they always do and wimp out. It’s history repeating itself. I wish it weren’t that way. Republicans gave up their strength and determination years ago. They’ll cave. Holder won’t be held accountable finally. He’ll get off clean. Watch. Depressing as heck, but we have only to look around us, and unless we get tough – REALLY tough, it won’t change. Yes, this is cynical. But I think it’s accurate, at least at the moment.

They were planning, him and his Obama crowd, to use this unprecedented influx of firearms from the US to Mexico to restrict gun sales and beef up anti-second amendment gun laws. Problem is, they got caught and it has now backfired.     Let me ask you Jim, who will enforce all of Barry’s rules and regulations if he should resign? Who will protect Barry’s “people”, gay marriages, the OWS crowd? Who will sue AZ, AL, SC and any other state that attempts to shut down illegals voting?

    As long as dingy Harry has complete control of his ‘one vote-all vote’ Democrat Senate, Eric is home free. By the way so is Barry, our magnificent financial investor and protector of all things green.
