Expert: Obama Led U.S. Into Libya Under False Pretenses

Via Weasel Zippers comes a provocative op-ed in the Boston Globe by Alan J. Kuperman, a professor of public affairs at the University of Texas and the author of The Limits of Humanitarian Intervention. The op-ed is titled “False pretense for war in Libya?”
Kuperman claims that President Barack Obama “grossly exaggerated the humanitarian threat” in Libya in order to justify military action there.
Last month, Obama said that U.S. military involvement in Libya was necessary in order to avoid “blood bath” and “humanitarian catastrophe.”
The president said, “If we waited one more day, Benghazi . . . could suffer a massacre that would have reverberated across the region and stained the conscience of the world.”
Notwithstanding the harrowing tale of alleged Libyan rape victim Iman al-Obeidi, Kuperman says that new data from Human Rights Watch paints a very different picture of what’s actually happening on the ground in Libya.
But Human Rights Watch has released data on Misurata, the next-biggest city in Libya and scene of protracted fighting, revealing that Moammar Khadafy is not deliberately massacring civilians but rather narrowly targeting the armed rebels who fight against his government.
But that’s Misurata. What about Benghazi?
Despite ubiquitous cellphones equipped with cameras and video, there is no graphic evidence of deliberate massacre. Images abound of victims killed or wounded in crossfire — each one a tragedy — but that is urban warfare, not genocide.
Nor did Khadafy ever threaten civilian massacre in Benghazi, as Obama alleged. The “no mercy’’ warning, of March 17, targeted rebels only, as reported by The New York Times, which noted that Libya’s leader promised amnesty for those “who throw their weapons away.’’ Khadafy even offered the rebels an escape route and open border to Egypt, to avoid a fight “to the bitter end.’’
If bloodbath was unlikely, how did this notion propel US intervention?
Kuperman explains that the rebels deftly crafted the narrative of an “impending genocide” in order to sway the international community to intervene in Libya.
And it worked.
So did the president lead the U.S. into war under false humanitarian pretenses, or was he duped by the rebels? Either way, Professor Kuperman paints a rather grim picture of the president’s Libya debacle. “It is hard to know whether the White House was duped by the rebels or conspired with them to pursue regime-change on bogus humanitarian grounds,” he writes.

What do Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran have in common? In the context of banking, one that sticks out is that none of them is listed among the 56 member banks of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). That evidently puts them outside the long regulatory arm of the central bankers’ central bank in Switzerland..
Several writers have noted the odd fact that the Libyan rebels took time out from their rebellion in March to create their own central bank – this before they even had a government.
I have never before heard of a central bank being created in just a matter of weeks out of a popular uprising. This suggests we have a bit more than a rag tag bunch of rebels running around and that there are some pretty sophisticated influences.
Alex Newman wrote in the New American:
In a statement released last week, the rebels reported on the results of a meeting held on March 19. Among other things, the supposed rag-tag revolutionaries announced the “[d]esignation of the Central Bank of Benghazi as a monetary authority competent in monetary policies in Libya and appointment of a Governor to the Central Bank of Libya, with a temporary headquarters in Benghazi.”
Newman quoted CNBC Senior Editor John Carney, who asked, “Is this the first time a revolutionary group has created a central bank while it is still in the midst of fighting the entrenched political power? It certainly seems to indicate how extraordinarily powerful central bankers have become in our era.”
Another anomaly involves the official justification for taking up arms against Libya. Supposedly it’s about human rights violations, but the evidence is contradictory. According to an article on the Fox News web site on February 28:
What do Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran have in common? In the context of banking, one that sticks out is that none of them is listed among the 56 member banks of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). That evidently puts them outside the long regulatory arm of the central bankers’ central bank in Switzerland..
The most renegade of the lot could be Libya and Iraq, the two that have actually been attacked. Kenneth Schortgen Jr.,writingon Examiner.com, noted, “[s]ix months before the US moved into Iraq to take down Saddam Hussein, the oil nation had made the move to accept Euros instead of dollars for oil and this became a threat to the global dominance of the dollar as the reserve currency and its dominion as the petrodollar.”
According to a Russian article titled “Bombing of Lybia – Punishment for Ghaddafi for His Attempt to Refuse US Dollar,” Qaddaffi made a similarly bold move: he initiated a movement to refuse the dollar and the euro and called on Arab and African nations to use a new currency instead, the gold dinar.
One seldom mentioned fact by western politicians and media pundits: the Central Bank of Libya is 100% State Owned…. Currently, the Libyan government creates its own money, the Libyan Dinar, through the facilities of its own central bank. Few can argue that Libya is a sovereign nation with its own great resources, able to sustain its own economic destiny.
One major problem for globalist banking cartels is that in order to do business with Libya, they must go through the Libyan Central Bank and its national currency, a place where they have absolutely zero dominion or power-broking ability. Hence, taking down the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) may not appear in the speeches of Obama, Cameron and Sarkozy but this is certainly at the top of the globalist agenda for absorbing Libya into its hive of compliant nations.
In a 2002articlein Asia Times titled “The BIS vs National Banks,” Henry Liu maintained:
BIS regulations serve only the single purpose of strengthening the international private banking system, even at the peril of national economies. The BIS does to national banking systems what the IMF has done to national monetary regimes. National economies under financial globalization no longer serve national interests.
… FDI [foreign direct investment] denominated in foreign currencies, mostly dollars, has condemned many national economies into unbalanced development toward export, merely to make dollar-denominated interest payments to FDI, with little net benefit to the domestic economies.
He added, “Applying the State Theory of Money, any government can fund with its own currency all its domestic developmental needs to maintain full employment without inflation.“ The ”state theory of money” refers to money created by governments rather than private banks.
The presumption of the rule against borrowing from the government’s own central bank is that this will be inflationary, while borrowing existing money from foreign banks or the IMF will not. But all banks actually create the money they lend on their books, whether publicly owned or privately owned. Most new money today comes from bank loans. Borrowing it from the government’s own central bank has the advantage that the loan is effectively interest free. Eliminating interest has been shown to reduce the cost of public projects by an average of 50 percent.
And that appears to be how the Libyan system works. According to Wikipedia, the functions of theCentral Bank of Libya include “issuing and regulating banknotes and coins in Libya” and “managing and issuing all state loans.” Libya’s wholly state-owned bank can and does issue the national currency and lend it for state purposes.
That would explain where Libya gets the money to provide free education and medical care and to issue each young couple $50,000 in interest-free state loans. It would also explain where the country found the $33 billion to build the GMMR project.

If he is so smart, then why does he have to go to the UN over the Congress to get approval to “protect” Libyans? If they were in trouble, I am certain that he would have received approval much faster through our Congress than through Russia and China.
If he i so smart, why is there only half as many in the Libyan battle than Bush got for the Iraq war?
I could go on, but he is no smarter than 80% of our Presidents, because they were all HIGHLY EDUCATED!!! Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar(it doesn’t get much better than that for smarts). Bush had a MBA from Yale(they don’t just hand those out you know).
Rather than playing the “race card”, why don’t you just play the, we don’t agree with his POLICIES CARD!!! I didn’t like the Hillarycare, proposed under Clinton(you know he wasn’t really “black” right)? I didn‘t like Bush’s overspending(you know he wasn’t really “black” right)?
