Explosion Kills Six at Mexican Resort

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — An explosion believed to have been caused by an accumulation of natural gas killed six people and injured 15 Sunday at a resort hotel on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, authorities said.

Initial reports indicate that three Canadian tourists may be among those who lost their lives in the blast, said Quintana Roo state Attorney General Francisco Alor.

The explosion happened in the lobby of the 676-room Grand Riviera Princess hotel in Playa del Carmen, which is located in Quintana Roo.

Officials at Canada’s Office of Foreign Affairs and International Trade could not immediately confirm the report of Canadian casualties.

A receptionist at the hotel confirmed the explosion at the hotel, a large complex with more than a dozen buildings.

Two of the dead were believed to be hotel employees, while the sixth victim had not yet been identified, Alor said.

Photos from the scene show shards of glass and other material littering a broad swath of the hotel’s palm-lined lawn.

Alor said initial investigations were focusing on the possibility that naturally occurring gas from a nearby swamp had built up under the hotel and somehow ignited.

A Border fence won’t work what we need is a Great Wall of America on the Southern Border like the Great Wall Of China. If we did that we would be able to create a lot of jobs for the construction work and we can keep the Drug Cartels and Illegal Immigrants out of the country. Plus we can have the National Guard at the border and snipe anybody who tries to kill the workers or blow up the wall. It is criminal what the Federal Govt is doing with the border. Bush was lazy and didn’t do anything with the boarder and Obama is doing the exact damn thing that Bush is doing but even worse since he pulled back a lot of the National Guard.

Legalize weed and all will be naught. Maybe it will work and concentrate on the lethal drugs.

Guess no one really knows what actually happened yet.I think that those who insist upon going into Mexico at this time have their heads so far up their arses that it’ll take a surgeon to get out.I‘ve been to Mexico several times and don’t give a damn about ever going back.

I am on a SELF IMPOSED boycott of MEXICAN vacations ever since they joined a lawsuit to SUE the USA for human rights violations. They have some nerve but at least I don’t have to worry about this kind of thing! Prayers for family and friends of victims.

Swamp gas??? Please ignore my snort of disbelief. Most likely someone didn‘t pay off the local mob and an ’example’ was made. Speaking as a Canadian, you won’t find me or any of mine going on vacation in Mexico.

Infrastructure failure on this one…. And I hate to say that we are sadly going to see more and more Infrastructure failings around the world especially in the U.S.A… We seem as a nation to be ingnoring the fact that our infrastructure is literally crumbling apart…. As a country we only address a bad situation when it’s already too late to fix! And Mexico is no different… $4+trillion dollars would have taken care of this soon to be fate if the current administration would have addressed this fact head on. Addressing the infrastructure problem would be what would create the jobs our country needs and then some!.. It would put us back on top as a Super Power and definitely would solve most if not all of our economic woes. And as far as Mexico goes and it’s cartel and Muslim infiltration,.. stay away, don‘t vacation there and don’t go there to get your weed either, It’s not like it was even just a few years ago when one could vacation without worry of getting killed. It will only get worse, there and here. May God Comfort their families loss and ease their pain, In the Holy name of Jesus I pray, AMEN….

I’m going to the southern border area of Chiapas next Feb to visit Mayan ruin sites along the Guatemalan-Mexican border. While I feel like there shouldn’t be any problems, I will be using extra vigilance and caution while there.
