‘Explosive Interview’: CNN’s Rick Sanchez Takes on NY Winner Paladino

Explosive Interview: CNNs Rick Sanchez Takes on NY Winner Paladino

AP

The “explosive interview” label came quickly courtesy of Mediaite:

Meet your new GOP nominee for Governor, New York! Behold, Carl Paladino, who will presumably ensure that we no longer have to worry about being left behind when it comes to nutty politicians who will say anything. Paladino’s day-after victory rounds made a stop by Rick Sanchez’s show this afternoon and the results were…eye-opening. Fireworks might be the best way to describe the interview.

The interview spanned two segments and certainly covered a lot of ground. Including Ground Zero. Which Paladino defined as “the extended site over which the dust cloud containing human remains traveled.”

Talking Points Memo zeroed in on this assertion:

After a commercial break, Sanchez asked him to specify just what he meant about the dust cloud.

“That was a vast [dust cloud] — if you recall — it stretched all the way to Weehaken, to parts of Hoboken, miles from where this thing happened.” Sanchez said.

“Well I don’t think it went out that far. It went out about a quarter of a mile, I think,” Paladino said, before adding. “Well, I don’t know the exact distance, I don’t mean to make out that I know the exact distance. But wherever it went, wherever that dust is caught in the crevices of buildings or in the crevices of sidewalks, that’s human remains, and it should be treated that way. “

Here’s the short version:

The mosque issue also produced the most volatile moments of the interview:

Paladino is, naturally, against the mosque. In fact, he says he has evidence Imam Rauf wanted to bring Sharia law to America and implement it here and “that’s not kosher for us.” To Rick Sanchez’s everlasting credit he stopped Paladino at this point to tell him that it was “his job to be correct” and this was “not about interpretations it is about facts.” And there is a big difference! Not to Paladino. He apparently told people (i.e. voters) that the Imam belonged to a sect of Islam that believes people who don’t follow it should be killed. Says Rick Sanchez: “Where in the hell did you get that!”

Here’s the longer version:

And then we get to, among other things, Paladino’s opposition to gay marriage an abortion:

This guy has guts, and is honest about his intentions and beliefs. I have to admire that. Whoever votes for him will definitely know what they are getting. He is going to have to be as tough as he is brave, because the long PC knives will be out for him. The GZ mosque is just the tip of the iceberg, and we need to reveal the whole iceberg. This interview makes me wonder whether Mr. Paladino will ultimately help or hinder that process. Still, this is keeping focus on the issue which in turn is prompting more Americans every day to seek their own answers about the nature of Islam, and whether it indeed qualifies for the protections provided under the banner of “freedom of religion”. Honest, intelligent inquiry will reveal the truth. That is the only real protection. The Trojans would not have been destroyed if they knew the truth about that horse.

I don’t live in NY, but I am a fellow American to my brothers and sisters who were slaughtered in NY on Sept. 11. I think any good New Yorker who feels like the ruling class in NY is siding with the enemy should vote yes for the opposition to the enemy. Time to put our thumbs in their eyes.

The best interview was the one that followed when Rick Sanchez tried to incite Andrew Young about the MLK photographer who is now believed to have been an FBI informer. Mr. Young, in essence, said that they encouraged any and all law enforcement at that terrible time because they knew the FBI documentation would be accurate!

If I had a dollar for every time I have heard a politician say he is going to cut spending and then go on to do the exact opposite I would have a pocketful of cash right now.

The mosque issue. He flatly states that it “has nothing to do with freedom of religion.” Really? There are many constitutional scholars that do have an issue with that line of thinking. We should all give pause for any politician that makes statements like this. Hasn’t history shown us that when you target one particular religion for whatever reason only bad things result from it? But for the sake of argument I will say he is right.

Is it a property rights issue? You own the property so you can do what you want with it as long as you do not break any existing laws or codes. Paladino’s solution. Just seize the site through the use of eminent domain. That is a nice small unobtrusive government at work for you alright. Just take the property away. He doesn’t stop there though, he proposes that Government will have the right to do the same “to all the properties in the Ground Zero area.” Wow. What is the Ground Zero area? Well, to him it is any place that had dust fall on it from the collapses. That is a pretty vast area. On the bright side maybe they will be able to get rid of the tity bar that is already there. Funny, how nobody has a problem with that. I see he has backed down a bit from this when he said in the interview he would not try to seize it with eminent domain but instead by the use of “restrictive covenant”. Damn, the dude is already starting to change his position. Not that he would lie or anything to get votes. So why should I believe this guy on his other promises?

His website states that he is against “bureaucratic harassment of the private sector.“ If his position on the mosque and his statements of using ”eminent domain to seize” the property a direct contradiction of this I don’t know what is.

But hey, he is “standing with the American people” on this issue….unless of course you are a Muslim. Like the Jews of previous generations the Muslims are the cause for all of societies ills seems to be his take. I find it disgusting.

He is just another of a long line of Republicans that campaign against big government but once elected give us just that. These people love to use big government to control and get into peoples lives when it will suit their own narrow minded agenda.

Astroman. Thank you for the honest discussion and opinion. You raised the bar on THE BLAZE. I have read and re-read your comments. As far as any polititian doing what they say they are going to do – that is always subject to their honesty regardless of the party they belong to :) The rest of your argument seems to do with Ground Zero/Eminent Domain/Mosque. As President Obama stated, the muslims are legally open to building their mosque in that location. It is a moral issue with Americans not a legal issue. Americans did not set out to segregate muslims on the Ground Zero issue. Can you name another religion that was involved in the attack on America on 9-11 in NY, Washington or Pennsylvania that day? If you can, we should carefully watch where ‘their’ religious facilities are being built.

Honestly, I don‘t like someof the things that he said as you’ve pointed out. My main contention is that Rick would NOT be as probing of progressives like Cuomo. I promise you that I will watch aqny other statements which might indicate failure to honor the Constitution.

Just one response to eminent domain. It is in the Constitution BUT MUST be used for “public good.” He did mention that he would like to use the 911 site as a memorial to all killed on 911 and our military fighting radical Muslims. Do you feel this is justification as a public good?

PeachyinGA: I am a Conservative Independent, not a Republican and I know very little about Paladino. I agree with your point that “..we should carefully watch where ‘their’ religious facilities are being built..”. That should go for any political fringe group or radical organization that masquerades as an accepted religion, has ties to known terrorist organizations, or has actually attacked us. Our 1st amendment should not tie our hands when it comes to National Defense against religions which have been hi-jacked by radical terrorists and want to use their name as a mask (common sense). Unfortunately, to adopt that would probably require an amendment to the Constitution to exempt such religions from the 1st Amendment and would be fought tooth and nail by progressives, so…this is where common sense come into play (hopefully we can find some).
I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Astroman’s post and the points he made. I see it as having been written from a left leaning persuasion…”not that there’s anything wrong with that”, [Jerry Seinfeld] :-). His main points seemed to be: Freedom of Religion, Property Rights, bureaucratic harassment of the private sector, and Muslims are the cause for all of societies ills. I believe a true Conservative (more eloquent than I) could present good arguments in opposition his position on each of those points.
His last statement I find questionable. Astroman said, “..He is just another of a long line of Republicans that campaign against big government but once elected give us just that. These people love to use big government to control and get into peoples lives when it will suit their own narrow minded agenda..” I think this statement could have been offered as a blanket statement of Progressives, rather than one Republican candidate. Of course, there are Progressives who call them self Republican, and these candidates need to be weeded out, but it comes across as a slam of Paladino with no evidence to back it up. It could be a true, time will tell. Conservatives are always struggling to separate the wheat from the chaff in the info wars…. Sanchez and his network are a joke. ..rf

Liberals/Progressives like Mr. Sanchez are absolutely amazing. How is it they argue with themselves on a regular basis without even realizing it? When they back pro-government control candidates and more restrictive laws on behavior they are in disagreement with freedom. What I find amazing is they don’t see that, when they are trying to frame these people as controllers.

They seem to want both. Sorry Mr. Sanchez but government control is less freedom not more, no matter what letter comes after thier name.

Rick Sanchez, the haughty news anchor left some human remains in a dust cloud as well.
    -CNN’s Rick Sanchez Hit-and-Run DUI

On December 10, 1990, Sanchez struck a drunken pedestrian, Jeffrey Smuzinick, with his car on a residential street near Dolphin Stadium and left the scene, returning two hours later. Smuzinick was paralyzed and eventually died in an assisted living facility on November 2, 1995. Sanchez had just left an NFL football game with his father when the accident occurred, and a police breathalyzer exam determined that Sanchez’ own blood alcohol level was above the legal limit for driving. He was not charged with causing the accident, but was charged with and pleaded no contest to DUI.

The outrageous e-mails, first posted onthe western New York blog http://www.WNYMedia.net, range from screeds against President Obama to videos of naked ladies.

His more revolting missives contained racist rants, hard-core porn and a video clip involving bestiality.

In one December 2008 e-mail, an African tribal dance is labeled an “Obama inauguration rehearsal.”

Another e-mail titled “demotivated” spoofs a “motivational poster” with a group of African-Americans running away from a plane.
