Exposed: DC ‘Metro’ Subway’s Racially Biased, Willfully Incompetent Policies

The Washington Times, the DC area’s conservative alternative to the Washington Post, has been doing some tough investigative work on the subject of the Washington Metropolitan area’s subway system, known by residents as the “Metro.” And while such an item would usually only warrant local interest, the level of incompetence involved stands as a parable about both public sector unionism and how racially-motivated hiring can spin wildly out of control.

Let’s start with some of the most interesting charges – according to the Times, a former PCP dealer has acquired a management level position in the Metro, while people with college and even graduate degrees are passed over for positions in the Metro leadership. And not only that, but people who are qualified and/or concerned with efficiency are directly and purposefully weeded out under the bizarre mantle of “anti-elitism.” Moreover, women, especially white or Hispanic women are targets of harassment, sometimes to the point of their safety being threatened. One woman reported being deliberately shocked with electricity by fellow track engineers, with no consequences being imposed.

Read some of the details below:

Ninety-seven percent of the bus and train operators at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority are black, with only six white women out of more than 3,000 drivers, according to Metro documents — a lack of diversity at one of the region’s largest employers that has led to an acknowledgment of failure in affirmative-action documents and spawned a series of lawsuits.[...]

White and Hispanic employees who allege discrimination have found a deaf ear at Metro’s civil rights office, whose 17 employees are black. Until at least 1999, that office tracked complaints via a handwritten ledger on a series of taped-together sheets of paper, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times. The system “made determining statistics impossible,” said a civil rights employee from the time.[...]

For example, Ms. Townsend said, by 2004, many trains were operating without radios in defiance of federal rules. Other drivers confirmed that was common knowledge. So she authored a study and included a recommendation that Metro start substituting cellphones.

“I was read the riot act: ‘You had no right to compile these statistics,’ even though it was my job. They didn’t want people showing problems,” she said.

There are also stories of how unions can vote to veto punishment for their members, while imposing it on others for no reason other than personal enmity (usually motivated by race). People working the night shift also frequently shut themselves into offices and fall asleep.

In other words, in one of the most supposedly progressive, pro-government cities in the United States, one of the most widely used and arguably essential public utilities operates on the basis of racial favoritism and willful support for incompetence, because there are are no plausible consequences of failure. A parable about socialism? Weigh in below.

    When I visited DC 2 years ago I was immediately struck by the trash everywhere. it was shocking. I had been there many times before and I never noticed this . I had to wonder who was in charge of this place and why our most beautiful city looked like this.
    Now I get it. If the Metro is an example of how things are run.. I get it.
    Low lifes.. lazy slobs. They don’t want to work for their money.. they want it handed to them,
    The dumbing down of America. Detroit is demolished.

      Welcome to the new America, as you said the dumbing down of America, well to all you guilt ridden white people all I can say is good job mission accomplish, you managed to create laws and rules that destroyed a once great American society/culture….Mediocrity rules the day, however this is what our politicians want a more ignorant public fighting each other with new slave bosses to drive the masses as they continue to live in a life of comfort out of touch with the public, once again thanks to the hippies and bleeding hearts of the past….

    97% black? wow, amazing how racist the blacks who claim that that they are fearful and under persecution of racism are. This is an example of reverse discrimination and racism. The reverse if the obvious preferential and the racism is the acts being committed. We all know what happens when we give in to our children with every request, they get spoiled. Why is it that we fail to recognize that principle in reference to society. The dems have reared spoiled rotten children that we now have to live with.

      There is no such thing as “reverse discrimination”. There is only discrimination. “Reverse” indicates that somehow, one should expect it solely from whites. As this story demonstrates, human beings are human beings and are prone to tribalism, regardless of race/color. What a friggin’ shame about it too.

    It is the sad truth that most Cities run by blacks in the USA are full of curruption and violence its a fact., Black countries in the World be it in Africa or the islands Mon are full of violence and curruption.Look at the short period of time it took to put South Africa in the toilet. Is that a racist thing to say if it is the truth?. I am teaching my children to be proud caucasions there is nothing to be ashamed of for being white. The lines are becoming more defined and this administartion has done more to hurt race relations then any administration in the History of the United States. White people better start waking up before its too late and quit with the white guilt BS.

    Same thing at the VA Hospital in Hampton Virginia. It is a Viginia Federal issue that permeates the government. It performs at a much lower level than most VA hospitals. So much that they will not take troops badly injured from our current conflicts. Getting by by getting by….call in sick whenever, disappear for hours, substance abuse….no consequences, good pay.

      Ditto at the Michael E. DeBakey Medical Center in Houston. I worked there for over 31 years. Discriminatory hiring practices. Nursing management practically 100% Black, most are illiterate and incompetent. They are bullies and intimidating thugs. The EEO office is also nearly 100% Black. The nurses have contacted the OIG, the VISN, their Congressmen and are too afraid to leave their names for fear of retaliation. The patients can not receive decent care due to short staffing at the bedside and top heavy, useless bureaucrats. They promote their own to “help the sista’” and hijack other’s work product to pawn off as their own. They have demoted white nurses with advanced degrees for no cause and replaced them with blacks of inferior quality. When I left, out of 150 RNs on surgery, there were only 4 white nurses remaining. Filipinos, Indians, “real” Africans are likewise treated in an unfair manner.
      The racist things I have heard come out of their mouths would curl your toes. The real racism in this country comes straight from the Black community. Time to stop the madness. If they can not perform (and most can not) they should not get the job. No more affirmative action, set asides and no more excuses. They’ve had 50 years. Step up or step aside. They are destroying the quality of the country.

    I was in the Air Force in the DC area in the early 90′s and experienced some of the same stuff on base. Civilian personel actually had to teach me how, when and where to be lazy and when I ran around doing my job, they actually asked me to knock it off because I was making them look bad. That whole area sucks.

    This same mentality is what caused the massive problems in the DC police and fire systems as well. I once saw a local news clip in which the DC chief financial officer referred to the city’s “physical year” three separate times. Not a simple slip of the tongue, but absolutely no clue that all the people around him had been saying “fiscal year” all those years. The CFO of the nation’s capital… simply amazing.

    Haven’t you heard that the Democrats are using Discrimination Card to forbid employers from inquiring about the credit histories or the criminal records of their potential employees. This is outrageous but an excellent examples of the anti- business/ corporations/ capitalism of our New Democrat Marxist Party. Hate the rich fat cats. Tax them because they have money which we want to spread around. Hate Wall Street because capitalism victimizes “the poor.” Hate bankers because they won’t give loans to poor people who do not have jobs and have bad credit records ( which you evil rich people can NOT look at ). Hate the Republicans because they are all rich, white, old people and have no hearts . Yes, hate the rich 1% which is a Fantasy Number which correlates to our equally phony 99% Number !     I see the degrading results anytime I use the metro: Attendants who can’t be understood, generally unhelpful, and announcers who can barely mumble instructions…add escalators which routinely fail, and then add 10% of the passengers who are a legitimate risk to society.
    If ANYONE attempts to reform this broken system, I can imagine the uproar & protest coming from the “diverse” community.
    I really am totally baffled how we can undo the damage of the past 40 years.

    My youngest should be almost to Florida as I type. Pappa, flew up to take him to Florida {I WILL NOT let my child fly alone-did it once-NIGHTMARE at Detroit Metro…’nuff said}. Anyway, he called to say they had a stop over in Baltimore. Now, I’m trying to be REALLY upbeat here. Baltimore….isn’t that where Fort McHenry is? War of 1812…Star Spangled Banner. All the while praying…don’t get off the plane. Now, WHY do I feel this way??????????

    The metro us behind on maintenance by years. They are death traps. The funnel funds towards retirements and benefits not towards equipment maintenance. They wont get money for personnel so they let maintenance go knowing the will get cash to keep the trains going eventually.
