‘Extremes’ Are ‘Ruling the Roost’: CNN Meteorologist Attributes Texas Twisters to ‘Climate Change’

Via Jeff Poor at The Daily Caller:

On the Tuesday broadcast of “CNN Newsroom,” CNN meteorologist Alexandra Steele declared that tornadoes plowing through the Dallas-Fort Worth area were brought on by climate change.

Steele, formerly of The Weather Channel, also predicted that more extreme weather is on its way.

“It really is [such a strange spring],” Steele said. “That’s kind of the climate change we are seeing. You know, extremes are kind of ruling the roost and really what we are seeing, more become the norm.”

Well, I think it’s “extremists ruling the discourse” based on the personal fears that they will be exposed for being too intellectually shallow to compete with the truth, which “IS” they don’t understand the big picture because their ideology clouds their ability to think clearly. And a poor scientific academic achievement quotient. Of course, that’s just my humble but lovable opinion.

And that’s exactly why “global warming” was changed to “climate change”! Its difficult for the media to get people to think about global warming any time of the year other than the absolute hottest months. The theory of global warming was beginning to die. Change it to “climate change” and now they can try to incite fear into main stream media watchers every time anything more extreme than an afternoon thundershower occurs.

Well, if the ones today are caused by “climate change”…the tornadoes we had in the Dallas area back in 1985 and 1986, what are we supposed to say caused those? I lived in Dallas and was part of a search and rescue team in the area… we were kept very, very busy due to the severe weather, several deaths from flooding etc. I wonder what “caused” all of that back then??? The first time I saw giant hail stones was in Dallas… cratered my car really well. We also had scorching summer temps occasionally…. oh, and those winter snow storms…. I think it was about 1983 we had some real fun on the freeways sliding around…. yes, that climate change is getting really overused.

Are you serious? Do you even understand science? Have you read the vast number of scientific reports from scientists of numerous countries? I realize that it is much easier to only read or listen to articles/videos from republican biased sources that dont understand science or else does not want to report the truth due to a political agenda and then to parrot their talking points, but don’t expect to have those talking points based in reality!

I agree that it is impossible to attribute any one weather event to man-influenced climate change. And I also understand the outrage at the scientific scandal from those emails years ago. Just because there have been problems regarding the science behind man-influenced climate change does not mean that all of the research and reporting has been false! I am not a climate scientist but I do have an MS in an earth science and I do understand the scientific process, and from what I have read, there is definitely a human influence in current climate change. Sure, there is also a natural component to the Earth’s climate changing, but superimposed onto the natural climate fluctuations is a portion that is influenced by humans. While many of the details involving the climate change research is complicated, the bottom line regarding the input of carbon into our atmosphere and the resultant change in climate is very easy to see and understand.

Have you ever applied for or received grant money? I have, and believe me, nobody is getting rich from grant money. As I mentioned previously, I agree with you and others that the Earth has gone through numerous natural climate changes. The proof of the natural climate changes is abundant. The Earth has had several ice-ages and several interglacial warming periods, the evidence is in ice-cores as well as in the rocks and corals in the seas. No-one is saying that the Earth does not have natural cyclical climate changes.

The Earth’s largest mass extinction ocurred at the end of the Permian geologic period about 250 million years ago. Roughly 90% of all species became extinct. The reason? A series of large Siberian volcanoes erupted massive amounts of basaltic lava relatively quickly in geologic terms. At first the volcanic eruptions cooled the Earth’s temperature due to large amounts of ash in the atmosphere which blocked sunlight and thus cooled the Earth. However, after much of the ash settled, the large amounts of CO2 that these volcanoes put into the atmosphere had warmed the Earth by nearly 8 degrees C.

Today, there is still natural CO2 put into the atmosphere from volcanoes, however, the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels is several times the magnitude of CO2 released by the Siberian volcanoes. And guess what? Humans are the CAUSE of the burning of fossil fuels which releases the CO2 which in turn heats up the Earth.

While the grants and handouts that fund the “scientific research” that perpetuates the climate change hoax may not make the “scientists” who get the money rich, it keeps them employed with incomes much higher than they could earn doing productive work.

Your claim that “the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels is several times the magnitude of CO2 released by the Siberian volcanoes”, is ridiculous on its face. One paragraph above that you state that; “the large amounts of CO2 that these volcanoes put into the atmosphere had warmed the Earth by nearly 8 degrees C. “

But in spite the distorted data and the totally bogus data spewed by the “scientists” who try to perpetuate the hoax, the earth isn’t warming significantly and may be starting to cool slightly much like the cooling cycle that followed the warming cycle that produced the Medieval Warm Period. We may be entering another Little Ice Age; the period of global cooling that followed the Medieval Warm Period and lasted until the mid-1800s.

Nor can the hoaxers explain away the fact that the amount of CO 2 in the atmosphere today is less than the amount in the air during the Pliocene epoch from 5.3 to about 3 million years ago but the earth was much warmer then than today.

      Manoloribera –
The Medieval Warming Period is an ‘anomaly’ since it cannot be explained (at least yet…), I’ll give you that. However, the ‘facts’ that I mentioned regarding the Siberian basalt traps and the amount of CO2 that these massive eruptions released is in every scientific study in peer-reviewed journals that I have read. Also, the ‘estimated’ increase in temperature from these Siberian volcanoes at the end of the Permian is also in every peer-reviewed journal article I have aver read.
You say that we may be entering another little ice age. That is ridiculous on its face! All of the data suggest a global warming period is currently going on. Check out these charts from UC Berkeley, they compiled 1.6 BILLION data records of Earth surface temps to produce these charts.
      http://berkeleyearth.org/analysis/
If that data does not clearly indicate a global warming trend from 1800 to 2010 I don’t know what does!!
Also, check out this brief report. It is from a geologist (that I have met and talked to several times; not only a great geologist, but a heck of a nice guy and beer lover as well..) professor from Columbia University. His report is from 1975, well before this “climategate” fiasco. His calcs of temp and CO2 from 1975 through 2010 is EXTREMELY accurate. Wallace is also accredited with first using the term “global warming”. Check out his 1975 report here:

First of all, your statement quoted above — fits right into what the climate change scientists are concluding based on the data. You are correct that the current CO2 in the atmosphere is about 390 ppm, less than calculated for the Pliocene. Since CO2 levels were higher in the Pliocene, it was also much warmer than today! Not only you say that, but that is exactly what the climate scientists are saying!!! In fact, many scientists are using the Pliocene ‘climate’ as a proxy for the predicted climate in the coming late 21st century and beyond.

Global average Pliocene temps were about 2-3 degrees C warmer than today and global sea level was 25 meters higher! Imagine if sea level now rose 25 meters…. A lot of cities would be flooded. There would be severe global economic collapse. Many islands disappear. Florida loses many square miles. You helped prove my point

I never disputed the amount of CO2 generated by the Siberian volcanoes. You claimed; “the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels is several times the magnitude of CO2 released by the Siberian volcanoes”.
You also claimed; “the large amounts of CO2 that these volcanoes put into the atmosphere had warmed the Earth by nearly 8 degrees C. “
If we have released several times the CO2 (as you claim) as was released by them why haven’t we seen a temperature increase anywhere near 8 degrees C? If CO2 caused that huge temperature increase why isn’t it causing an equally huge increase if we are releasing “several times the magnitude” of CO2? Hmmmm?
According to the hoaxer’s hocky stick the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age almost disappeared in the 1800s, replaced by a largely benign, slight cooling trend that lasted until about 1900.
The sea temperatures are cooling at the Equator while they are warmer in the temperate zones. Also the temperatures at the polls are dropping and the ice pack at both pols has been growing since 2007. So claiming that we might be headed for another cool period is no more silly than claiming man can cause global warming or cooling just by living a modern life.

On March 30, 2009 over 100 scientists sent an open letter to President Obama disputing global warming. These scientists include climate experts from the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Kansas, the University of Delaware, the

They also include the former director of the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, the former editor of the journal Climate Research, and a former Reviewer of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Here’s what those scientists said in their open letter:
“We, the undersigned scientists, maintain that the case for alarm regarding climate change is grossly overstated. Surface temperature changes over the past century have been episodic and modest and there has been no net global warming for over a decade now. After controlling for population growth and property values, there has been no increase in damages from severe weather-related events. The computer models forecasting rapid temperature change abjectly fail to explain recent climate behavior. Mr. President, your characterization of the scientific facts regarding climate change and the degree of certainty informing the scientific debate is simply incorrect.”
Also, Dr. Ivar Giaever, a former professor at the School of Engineering and School of Science Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and won the 1973 Nobel Prize for Physics, has become a vocal dissenter from the alleged “consensus” regarding man-made climate fears. Perhaps I worded it too vaguely when I said that current burning of fossil fuels is releasing carbon at several times the magnitude of the massive Permian Siberian basalt flows. The TOTAL amount of carbon released thus far from fossil fuels is NOT several orders of magnitude greater than from the Permian Siberian volcanoes TOTAL, however, I meant the orders of magnitude greater in the RATE that carbon is being put into our atmosphere. The Siberian Permian eruptions lasted about one million years, and the released CO2 into the atmosphere, thus causing the increased global temps was over a period of about 100,000 years at which point the atmosphere was basically saturated with CO2 and did not increase much beyond this point. So the Permian siberian volcanoes took roughly 100,000 years for the ‘total’ global temperature increase of about 8 degrees C. Based on the current global release of CO2 from fossil fuels and the projected CO2 increases due to increased fossil fuel burning mainly from China, India, and Brazil’s growing middle-class populations, we will NOT take 100,000 years to reach the predicted 8 degrees C temp increase; it is projected to take one to two hundred years from now to reach the CO2 atmospheric ‘saturation’ point and the roughly 8 degree C global temp increase, and the difference between 100 and 100,000 years IS several orders of magnitude. Two orders of magnitude to be precise!

You say: “The sea temperatures are cooling at the Equator while they are warmer in the temperate zones. Also the temperatures at the polls are dropping and the ice pack at both pols has been growing since 2007″

Well, WHAT is it? You contradict yourself in saying that sea temps are warming in the temperate zones and in the next sentence you say that temps at the polls are dropping. So are the temperate-polar zone temps warming or cooling? Sure they can do both on a short term basis, but short terms when considering global climate change is meaningless! You need to consider long-term trends. And along the same point, when you say “ice at both polls have been growing since 2007” that is meaningless in considering global temp TRENDS. You need MUCH more data of polar ice pack to see TRENDS; not just ice presence or absence, or just ice thickness, or just age of ice present; you need to consider all of the above over a long period of time to see the global average change in polar temps, and this data clearly shows an increasing temp trend at the poles.

This link [http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/science_and_impacts/impacts/early-warning-signs-of-global-1.html] clearly shows that over the last 100-years (a decent amount of time and data for a good TREND), polar temperatures have increased at twice the rate of overall global average temperatures. This is real interesting since the earth usually retains heat at the equator, and loses heat at the poles due to

      ML –

I am aware of the 100 scientists that signed the letter to the president denying global warming. I have read it a while back. I’m also aware of the other letters signed by anthropogenic climate change deniers.

It is truly sad that real science got hijacked by political agendas and money. I don’t remember who said this but it is certainly true: “Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

Based on my scientific knowledge and my research of the authenticity of the climate data, the climate analyses, and the conclusions, I have to say that the influx of CO2 and other greenhouse gases (GHG’s) from human activity into Earth’s atmosphere has caused an increase of global average temperatures. And as the CO2 and other GHG’s increase, I suspect that the global average temps will likewise increase. I have no political agenda, I am not an alarmist or a conspiracy-theory guy, just someone interested in science of all kinds.

I remember a few years back when geologists and geophysicists thought that there was no way that humans could cause earthquakes. It was simply not doable. The incredible size of crustal rocks and faults that could cause earthquakes, and their densities, etc… and the forces required to MOVE at least one side of the crustal rocks along a fault that would create an earthquake measurable by seismographs, was just too much for anything ‘human-induced’. Yet now we know that humans can create earthquakes; done by ‘fracking’ gas wells.

Scientists and engineers have known that human activity causes earthquakes long before fracking was invented. The 1967 earthquake near Koynanagar, India caused a 6.3 quake that the USGS in its summary of the event, calls Koynanagar one of the “classic examples of reservoir-induced seismicity.” USGS calls Koynanagar one of the “classic examples of reservoir-induced seismicity.”
Yet “clean” hydro-power and clean drinking water we get from dams isn’t under attack, but fracking is. Instead of building dams and fracking to produce more gas and oil, I guess we should build more coal fired electric generation plants.

True, very true. I quit TV a couple of years ago. I am more solid in my opinions and beliefs than I ever have been. Never going back to the idiot box!

One of the best decisions We ever made as a family was not to have TV. It has made a world of difference in our children. They are not all up into pop culture. They actually have lives.

Well today I saw chemtrails in our skies in NC so I am preparing myself…may be nothing to them but the weather sure does have a drastic change when I see them around here…so we will see. The geo-engineering of weather is my guess….call me crazy…lol…I‘m a conservative Christian so I’ve been called worse. I am amazed and thank God there were no deaths in these recent tornados thus far. My prayers go out to those that have suffered losses.

“That’s kind of the climate change we are seeing. You know, extremes are kind of ruling the roost and really what we are seeing, more become the norm.”

Zero authoritative knowledge or science in that statement. Are tornado’s extreme? They sure are, especially if you are in the path of one. But attributing tornado’s to climate change is silly. First, climate has been changing since the earth first cooled. Warmed, cooled all without “suv’s” and factories. Second, tornado’s happen every year with some years worse than others. Is this year worse than others? Maybe, maybe not. My question would be, if climate change (evil man) is to blame for these tornado’s, what is the mechanism that causes severe tornado’s and what constitutes severe or non severe weather? The answer would inevitably be ‘it just does’. That is known as pseudo science. Actually, its just non-science masquerading as a religion because it requires you to believe in something that can’t be proven.

Speaking of questions, why is Co2 the only greenhouse gas discussed since it makes up less than 5% of gasses in the atmosphere? Oh yes, methane was recently discussed, which makes up less than 1% of atmospheric gasses. Cow flatulence. So what is the other 95%? Water vapor. How does 5% greenhouse gasses cause all the purported warming? What would happen if there were no greenhouse gasses? We would be a lifeless ice ball. So how much Co2 is man and how much is natural? Unknown. Why, because they assume it’s all man in the models.
And for the biggest question: considering we have actually been cooling for the last ten years and Co2 levels have gone up, does this fact not relegate anthropogenic forcing to the junk heap of pseudo science? It should!
Lots of good science in climatology, the problem is wild sweeping conclusions and politicians who seek to exploit others.

This lady is clueless. This is Texas! We have crazy weather every year. Tornados are part of that, and they can hit at any time of the year here.

‘Extremes’ Are ‘Ruling the Roost’: CNN Meteorologist Attributes Texas Twisters to ‘Climate Change’
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Weather 101 – the sun causes ALL weather on this planet. When warm moist air meets cloder air aloft through a lifting source and and an unstable lapse rate, BAD THINGS HAPPEN.
