A 37-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son are uninjured after falling directly onto Boston subway tracks, thanks to the quick action taken by bystanders.
The mother was not paying attention to where she was walking while holding her son and stepped right off the edge of the platform onto the tracks. Surveillance video shows that as soon as witnesses saw what happened they too jumped down to help the mother and son out.

Watch the MyFoxBoston report with footage of the scene:
MyFoxBoston reports the woman, Meera Thakrar, told the MTBA Red Line inspector she had been looking at the train sitting at the further platform and thought it was the train on her side that she was to board.
MTBA thanked the bystanders for their quick action to help the pair but noted a preferred response would have been to alert MTBA staff who could shut off the third rail, which is electrified.

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 2:56pmIt always amazes me how some of the posters on this website can be so evil and devilish with their words. Most of you try to pass these people off as TROLLS, but they are the same people who have so much deep rooted texts on an array of different political topics. That is not a characteristic of a TROLL. You guys who constantly allow the devil to use you are going to bust hell wide open whjen it’s your time to go. All of these evil words you spew will be brought back to you and you are going to have a hell of a time explaning them. This lady could have died along with her baby and all some of you can do is to make jokes or bring politics into the equation. What a PARTY

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 4:53pmMy nephew has epilepsy and I could easily imagine him doing something like this. I would jump in and help them out instinctively. No question about it. People shouldn’t jump to conclusions. She may have a medical problem like epilepsy (might suddenly space out) or eye problems. You can‘t always see if someone has a medical problem and you definitely can’t see if she has a psychological problem like claustrophobia or agoraphobia which could disorient her if severe enough.
Report Post »It confuses me that most people don’t think about why a person might behave differently. Maybe it’s the psychology classes I took in college or because I have always had bad vision myself, but I always think about why people might behave strangely. In fact, I‘m wondering what’s wrong with the people who suddenly started hurling insults at this woman for no reason like childhood bullies. Maybe they’re children, ignorant, or egocentric. I describe these people jokingly as “people who can’t see past their own noses.” They see the world as if everyone is supposed to be a carbon=copy of themselves. They ignore that people have different needs, different ideas, different upbringings… sadly, they aren’t all trolls.

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 2:34pmThe article said that it would have been better reporting the incident to authorities who would have shut down the third rail. By the time that happened, the confused woman would have been electrocuted.

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 1:12pm…the good samaritans should have, “contacted an MTBA employee first so they could shut the 3rd rail off”?? Really? How hard can it be, the rail has a wood cover over it and is furthest rail from the platform. It’s simple, DON’T TOUCH IT. For crying out loud, they think we’re retards. …then again, this lady did what she did. :-\

Hind-sight being 20-20, that’s good to know. But was there REALLY time to wait for someone to contact MTBA employees and then WAIT for them to shut off power to the third rail? I suggest – you decide…
GREAT WORK ATTABOYS to the citizens of Boston who took part in the rescue!!

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 12:46pmLooks like she did think the train was right in front of her when it was across the platform. She really should see an eye doctor. Maybe she needs corrective lenses. Thank God the good samaritans were there. We are God’s hands and feet here on earth.
Report Post »Since we conservatives ( and I’m a woman) are having a War Against Women, all of the good samaritans must have been Dems.

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 1:15pmI am Glad she and baby is OK! (seriously) Please check her blood, check her eyes, see if she lies to her friends, or was wearing 3D glasses for a cheap high! Boston’s train system (that I used for many years) is not that bad for any normal person, or any person (I just can’t accept Her reason) Sure, I do not know a thing about this poor lady but are Americans that stupid these days? Probably yes is the answer. In Menino land where he is the mafia leader who is in charge of Chic-Fil-A building permits and crony actions for his gains. Hey Mayor you got another Proud Bostonian getting around town on the tracks. Wha wha what d do yo yo youu think abooout that?
