‘Face of Progressive Hate?’ Gay Rights Activist Dan Savage Goes on Graphic Rant About Homosexuality & the Pope

Dan Savage has come under major fire over the past two weeks following an inappropriate speech he gave to high school journalism students. But a separate story that has gone somewhat underreported occurred in the days following that controversy, during an address Savage gave at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois, on Sunday.

During his speech, Savage and a conservative activist apparently got into a debate — one that caused the activist to be kicked out. Additionally, the controversial founder of the “It Gets Better” campaign made some comments about the Pope that some may find generally unappealing.

Savage was apparently invited by the college to address students about his “It Gets Better” campaign. An announcement on the Elmhurst web site promoted the free and public event. While the college is saying that that the talk went off without a hitch, Peter LaBarbera, the founder of the group Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (an organization that works to expose the so-called “radical homosexual agenda”) has a very different view.

LaBarbera has called the discussion crude and inappropriate. On the flip side, Elmhurst spokeswoman Desiree Chen says that it was a success that included ”a great mix of people of all ages.” According to the college, 1,200 people showed up to the event.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. LaBarbera also claims he was unfairly removed from the event after questioning Savage and his past tactics. Here‘s what CNS News’ Lauren Thompson reported earlier this week:

Conservative activist Peter LaBarbera claims he was removed from the “It Gets Better” founder’s event after LaBarbera expressed his Christian views, and attempted to question Savage about his vile attack on conservative presidential candidate Rick Santorum. [...]

According to LaBarbera the “anti-bullying” bigotry was laced with profanity and filthy and distorted accusations about believing Christians. “Savage made wildly inappropriate comments,” he said. At one point Savage “claimed the only thing stopping his d**k from being put in Brad Pitt’s mouth is a piece of paper,” LaBarbera said, apparently referencing legislation.

LaBarbera apparently confronted Savage about the web site he created to disparage former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum. Thompson continues:

Savage famously created SpreadingSantorum.com and started a “Google bomb” with the definition of Santorum as: “The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.” Many left-wing websites linked to that definition, boosting its online popularity. In the past, Savage also claimed he would love to hate-f*** Santorum. [...]

LaBarbera said he turned to the crowd and told them Christians do not want kids bullied…When he returned to his seat the woman next to him took his coat and belongings and threw them into the aisle.

LaBarbera said he was then escorted from the event because of his “disruptive behavior.”

The activist maintains that he did not heckle, nor was he disruptive. Following the event, Savage and LaBarbera continued their debate about what occurred at the address. Here is just a snippet of how heated it turned:

“Dan Savage is the face of progressive-hate and he himself is a walking hate-crime,” LaBarbera said after the drama ensued.

As for the claims that Savage was, indeed, inappropriate, LaBarbera published a clip allegedly taken from the Elmhurst event. In much of it, the gay rights advocate is being comedic, but his comments will surely offend Catholics, among others.

“The Pope. I’m going to digress for a moment about the Pope. The Pope recently said that gay marriage is a threat to the survival of the human race,” he said. “Because once…gay marriage is legal, everyone is going to get gay married. What he‘s saying is that there’s no such thing as a straight person.”

At this point, the audience roared with applause and laughter. Then, he continued with his statements about the Catholic leader’s views on gay marriage:

“What the pope is saying is that the only thing that stands between my dick and Brad Pitt’s mouth is a piece of paper. When the Pope says these things, gay writers like me, we go up on our blogs and write about it. I don‘t understand why straight people don’t get mad. The Pope is projecting. He clearly meant nobody’s straight. Not the Pope, not nobody else. You would think straight people would be insulted.

What the Pope is saying, once we‘re all gay married we’re going to go extinct as a generation. Because once we’re all gay married, we’re going to forget which hole sh*ts babies.”

So far, the entire address has yet to be posted online and Elmhurst is claiming that the college doesn’t have permission from Savage to do so. In fairness to Savage, though, the college was fully aware of who Savage was before his appearance.

While his words were certainly, by some standards foul, they cannot be fully assessed outside of the speech’s entirety — which has not been made available.

    My issue with this man and other gays isn’t the fact that they are gay, I couldn’t care less about that. But I do have issues with the hatred they spout on every issue, and frankly see it is an indication of mental instability.

      Go visit a Gay Pride event and just walk through. I rarely go to these events anymore. The literature you find states how the gay community is constantly discriminated against and put down. The progressives, socialists and communist had them use the same literature and talking points that are used by Blacks, Latins, Hispanics, Asians, Elderly, Poor, and every other special interest group. MOST of it is exaggerated and made up BS !

      Equal Rights, Equal Justice, Equal Representation, Equal Freedoms… No one person or group is more special than anyone else.

      I‘m gay and I don’t like allot of gay people. Especially when they act like self-centered, self-loathing, selfish in your face prissy sissies. If some in the gay community, as you say, like men because they are men, blah blah blah WHY in the heck do some imitate, celebrate, dress like and act like women ? “There’s Gay and then there is Parade Gay”

      That is the biggest turnoff in the world, I like men that look and act like men. If I wanted someone that acted like or dressed like a women, then I would much rather have the real thing…. without all the gay drama that folks like you bring into the discussion.

      Throughout the bible God uses the husband and wife theme as an example of the relationship between Christ and His Church. This is one way that homosexuality destroys what God intends for us to use as a way to better understand Him and our relationship with His Son.
      “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:31-32

      Second; Homosexuality is just one of many “lifestyle” choices that separate us from God. I doubt that many thieves are praising and lifting up the name of God as they are breaking into a stranger’s house. The same is true about homosexual behavior, murder, adultery, lying, etc. and the bible calls these lifestyles sins. Living in sin means making lifestyle choices that we choose over the Christ centered lifestyle that God intends for us. Jesus doesn’t want to be just one lifestyle choice on a list of your ten favorite lifestyles. Jesus wants to be number one on a list of one.
      The Christ lifestyle involves a true loving relationship unlike anything else the world has to offer. Satan doesn’t want us in that relationship so he mischaracterizes it as hate, intolerance, bigoted, and homophobic. Those who have chosen Christ as their only lifestyle are still flawed human beings, but the Christ that we are in a relationship with is perfect.

      It became hate speech when he brought the name of a known straight person into the conversation and through the vile use of his own tongue and words he painted an utterly disgusting picture. He defiles himself and others he is trying to convince he has only good intentions.

      So we must redefine what is good then shouldn’t we or are we not even to judge what is good…is even that off limits…seems so according to this mans logic. I do know this much, Sodom and Gomorrah tried it and they were snuffed out even when God said he would spare the cities if Lot could find even ten good men. We saw that he could not but God was willing to be merciful. I do know this much, God has given us some morals to try and live by for our physical lives here and if we chose not to, we will all suffer the consequences of these actions. If on the other hand, we chose to live according to the basic ten commandments we will have lives more abundant and even greater still the teachings of Jesus the son of God.

      The issue should be why does a college like Elmhurst College, run by a President, himself a former Roman Catholic Seminarian and Professor of Religious Studies, allow a vile, angry, militant, homosexual, anti-Catholic bully on campus to insult Catholics and spiritual leader, the Pope?

      Dr. S. Alan Rey, President of Elmhurst College has some explaining to do…to parents, alumni, Trustees, donors and all Catholic students at the College. Savage contributes nothing to any intellectual debate on any issue. Savage is a resentmet filled, mental midget with serious unresolved psycho-sexual issues. Savage‘s invitation and appearance at Elmhurst did not in any way uphold Elmhurst College’s “Core Values” as proudly stated on their website.

      Savage is part of the broader agenda of the militant homosexual lobby. This whole “bullying” garbage being bandied about Savage and he enablers is merely a trojan horse for homosexuality to be normalized to school age children. And who’s behind this push? Obama’s “Czar of Safe Schools” Kevin Jennings. You’ll recall Jennings is a founder of homosexual advocacy group GLSEN. You’ll also recall GLSEN advocates teaching extreme sex acts like f#sting to school age children. I also point out that Jennings is an admirer of Harry Hay. Who is Harry Hay? Hay was a marxist and homosexual militant..he also endorsed NAMBLA. It’s pretty clear right now that children are being targeted by homosexual activists for two reasons…to indoctrinate them at earlier ages to the homosexual agenda or to get them to believe “experimenting” (another catch phrase bandied about by the likes of Savage and Jennings) is “normal” and should be encouraged. This is where Savage’s “bullying” comes in. Common sense dictates that a capable teacher and principal can deal with any “bullying” at a school. But that’s not what Savage wants. Savage wants pro-homosexual causes and ideas to be given to children under the guise of “anti-bullying”. There’s a reason why he hates the church so much. Religion is a platform of conscience.       It is, of course, mental instability, and it manifests itself because most all these homosexuals are beset with serious mental disorders.

      This one here wants to insult and degrade the bible, hoping to inculcate in the minds of high schoolers the idea that homosexuality is not a mental illness in order to gain acceptance of his perversions into mainstream America. He, like all of them, hope to bully people into accepting him and his ilk. There are no lies or manipulations these sick kooks will refuse to resort to in order to achieve that purpose.

      But the worst thing about them are the diseases they introduce into the population.

      The gay community is rife with aids, herpes, syphillis and gonorrhea. While gonorrhea and syphillis offer lower chance of contraction in a normal living environment, aids and herpes can be spread from objects in contact with either disease. There are also high rates of anal cancer and parasitic infection among homosexuals.

      DFFJ….homosexuality was removed the American Psychiatric Association‘s list of psychological disorders in the 1970’s not because clinical evidence demanded it, but because homosexual advocacy groups demanded it. Homosexuals consistently comprise less than 2% of the population at any time. There is no genetic pointer to homosexuality. If homosexuals did not have a third party they could not procreate. They are a dead end as far as the species is concerned. Homosexuals make up over 55% of new cases of HIV infections in this country each year. Acknowledging they’re less than 2% of the population that’s an over-representation of 2,750%. It is not unsual for homosexual males to have hundreds of sex partners in their lifetimes. In short, the sexual activity of homosexual males is counter to the health and well being of the human species. There is nothing normal or healthy about homosexuality.

We don’t have to accept you. We don’t have to think like you. We don’t have to see things like you do.       though I think DFFJ is likely a troll.
      I have lived in San Francisco for a number of years and not all gay people are like this.
      Many of them are civilized and polite and what else……………………..normal.
      One thing I did not realize before when I was reading about what Dan Savage did to Rick Santorum was that Rick Santorum had likened homosexuality to beastiality and pedophilia. I have gay friends who are civilized but they too would take offense if you call them a child rapist or dog rapist. Their patience only extends so far, and they might not find any person who compares Rick to sexual discharge goo to be completely out of line in response.
      The image of someone raping a dog is disgusting. Likewise renaming someone after discharge is also disgusting. It’s a tough call on which insult is worse.
      I have to say to Rick, at least have some facts to back up your name-calling.
      And to Savage: you’re acting like a jerk and a bully and driving potential supporters away.

Common sense dictates that any “bullying” taking place should be handled by a competent teacher or principal..but that‘s not what’s going on with this “bullying” agenda right now. As a teacher Jennings admitted he did not report a boy he believed was underage that was seeking out older men for sexual liasons. Jennings was a founder of GLSEN. GLSEN has advocated the teaching of extreme sex acts like f#sting to school age children. Jennings is an admitted admirer of Harry Hay. Hay was an unabashed marxist and militant homosexual…and a vocal supporter of NAMBLA. Yes…you read that correctly Obama’s Czar of Safe Schools admires a man who supported NAMBLA before he died. The targeting of younger and younger children by homosexual advocacy groups isn’t a coincidence. It has a twofold purpose. Indoctrinate them early and make lifelong supporters of homosexuality or indeed coax a few into homosexual activity earlier.       It’s notable that Muslims, who are a growing force in this country, and who believe that….as one article on here stated…homosexuals are lower than pigs and dogs, following a policy of execution, usually by hanging or stoning, are NEVER criticized by homosexuals. Not one homosexual responded by voicing his opposition of their statements and practices.

      Let us read where you speak of the Koran as a”book of myths.” Or how about Hinduism or Buddhism, both of which preach against any kind of deviant sexual practices? The followers of both regard homosexuality for what it is: a perversion engaged in by those who are evil and mentally ill.

      You don’t have to hate just Christ and Christians. You can hate everybody else too.

      @AvengerK Surprise Surprise – I agree with virtually everything you said. However, there was some research by a Dr. Levin from San Fransisco who identified physiological differences, among them differences in the pituitary gland, within homosexuals. He disbanded his work when he was flooded with questions as to if there was an in utero test that could be performed to determine if the child would be homosexual. So not surprisingly there are some instances where there seem to be glandular and/or hormonal differences that could explain homosexual tendencies within certain individuals. To assert that it is a choice or mental illness in all cases is incorrect.

    He threatened to rape Santorum! Anyone know the definition of rape? It isn’t about sex, it is about anger, and power. “Hate f***” is about anger and power! Pure and simple he threatened a contender for the highest office in our country, AND NOBODY is investigating him?

    I cannot believe that he is supposed to be an advocate for the bullied and scared. If, and that is a big if, he was ever bullied, he is now using his new found power to bully! He has become the thing that he claims to want to change. He has become the bully.       The sad thing is that there ARE those who will still pay to hear his anger and fear! They feel just like him in this matter or another, and are supportive of his vile either in agreement or in support if they cannot or willnot spew it themselves.

      Even though a number of people have already said they will not pray for this individual (and probably not for others like him), if you are a Christian, you are called to “Pray for those who hate you” and to “Be kind to those who do evil against you.” This is KEY to the love of God–on this earth we are called to represent God on earth for the salvation of others. God will ultimately have the last word with each of us, and for too many it will be a sad, “Depart” to those who have chosen to dam themselves. They don’t have to believe in a God, but just because THEY don’t believe in Him, doesn‘t mean he doesn’t exist and that they will be held to accountability.

      DO WORK TO KEEP THIS VILE RHETORIC FROM BEING DISPENSE WHERE CHILDREN/YOUNG ADULTS CAN BE SO INFLUENCED BY THE LIES!

    There is NO WAY that Elmhurst College or any other university would have allowed Savage as a guest speaker had his remarks been directed at Jews, or Muslim religious leaders who stand by their tenets of their faith against gay marriage, sodomy, and deviant, vile, profane behavior exhibited by this disgusting human being. Apparently, militant, angry, resentful gays like Savage have a weird fixation against Catholics that should not be tolerated or invited by any institution of learning. Why doesn’t little angry Savage talk about what is said about homosexuals in the Koran or the Torah?

    If a professor, administrator or employee of Elmhurst College were to have said those horrible things about the Pope to students, you can bet they would be fired.

    Savage is the poster boy for the hypocritical, militant intolerant homosexuals. Savage is emotionally immature and certainly is the kind of person no parent ever wants their children to be around. He adds nothing intelligent to the discussion. That he can swear and say the utmost offensive and profane things about those that oppose radical homosexuals is all that credentials he needs to spew his brand of hate and intolerance. He has no moral compass or sense of decency. He exposes the gay rights agenda so brilliantly. This is what it is all about folks.

    Parents if you are paying 25,000 to 50,000+ for college tuition, please make sure your tuition dollars are not in any way going to support people like Savage on

      Yes they would have allowed him to slam Jews. Muslims no, Jews and Christians, absolutely! I‘ve sat in too many symposium’s and listened as both Jews and Christians were slammed and degraded and no one did ANYTHING, even when I complained. Even when many of us complained. I also watched a speaker get taken from the podium when he challenged Islam. His predecessor was exceptionally derogatory to Christianity and Judaism and NOTHING was done to him. So yes, if he had slammed Jews he would have been allowed to continue, but not if he slammed Islam.

Alan Ray, President of Elmhurst College, (host of Dan Savage who spoke and bashed Catholics and made wholly offensive comments about the Pope on Elmhurst campus) is a former Catholic Seminarian.     “Hate f***” is a euphemism that creepers use to disguise what they really mean … RAPE! Rape is not about sex, it is about power, it just uses the genitalia. So by that legal and psychological definition, “hate f***” would be rape no matter how you try to couch it, it is rape! So he is threatening to rape Santorum. And on a similar note, it is not a piece of paper keeping this creepers d**k out of Brad’s mouth, it is Brad, keeping this creeps d**k out! There is no currently enforced law against oral sex so Savage lies AGAIN!

      Savage’s “It Gets Better Project” has infested public schools. Parents contact your public school administrators, school boards, guidance offices,etc. and make sure that Savage or any of his related books, or the “It Gets Better Project” is NOT being promoted, invited to your children’s school. Let officials see and hear Savage’s own words before allowing him a captive audience of YOUR kids!
