Facebook-Banning NJ Pastor Acknowledges Threesome

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A pastor who said Facebook was a “portal to infidelity” and told married church leaders to delete their accounts or resign once testified that he had a three-way sexual relationship with his wife and a male church assistant.

The Rev. Cedric Miller confirmed the information reported Saturday by the Asbury Park Press of Neptune, which cited testimony he gave in a criminal case in 2003. The relationship had ended by that time.

Miller gained national attention when he issued the Facebook edict this week. He said it came about because much of the marital counseling he has performed over the past year and a half has concerned infidelity stemming from the social-networking website.

The 48-year-old leader of Living Word Christian Fellowship Church in Neptune Township had claimed Facebook ignites old passions, and he ordered about 50 married church officials to delete their accounts with the social networking site or resign from their leadership positions.

Miller had previously asked married congregants to share their login information with their spouses — as he does — and now plans to suggest that they give up Facebook altogether. The minister also said he would leave the site this week.

In court testimony he gave in April 2003, Miller said his wife had an extramarital affair with the church assistant. Miller said he participated in many of the sexual encounters and said the assistant’s wife was sometimes present, too.

Miller said the dalliances — which occurred in the Millers’ home — sometimes took place during Thursday Bible study meetings and Sundays after church. But the minister said the encounters “came to a crashing halt” when several women in the church accused the assistant of having sex with them.

The testimony was given in connection with a criminal case against the assistant that was eventually dismissed. The names of the church assistant and his wife were not disclosed, and Miller told the newspaper that he was concerned that revisiting the incident would “irreparably” hurt some people.

“It has come to my attention that a very painful part of my past has resurfaced,” Miller wrote in an e-mail sent Friday. Noting that his court testimony was mailed to his church leaders and other pastors several years ago, Miller said, “This was resolved at that time and accordingly we will not allow it to detract from our mission at hand to save as many marriages as we can.”

Miller said people must look at his Facebook directives in the proper context.

“My life as a minister, husband, father and friend has led me to the conviction that I must do all that I can to help as many people strengthen, preserve and repair the often times fragile cords of marriage,” Miller wrote.

A message left by The Associated Press for the church’s pastor was not immediately returned Saturday.

Just one more reason to hate Facebook. It’s getting ridiculous how many sites make you log in to Facebook or Twitter before you can even post something. I don’t know about you, but I’m not giving up my privacy just to post a message on the internet.

Mr Butcher, here’s another Jefferson quote. He was a true believer in Jesus. He was opposed only to the corruption of the faith .

To the corruptions of Christianity I am indeed opposed; but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself. I am a Christian, in the only sense he wished any one to be; sincerely attached to his doctrines, in preference to all others.”

      Ron,

That quote from Jefferson came earlier in his life (early 1770′s i think). If you look at thoughts and ideas as a progression based on aquired knowledge, thought and experience, you should then look to the private letters of Mr. Jefferson’s later life. He was no christian.

      Agent,
Ad hominem attacks I see. Not very christian of you. But christians usually have no problem with being hypocritical and suspending natural thought processes in exchange for promised rewards in death even if that requires attacking (and yes killing) others who are not like them. I feel very sorry for you. If you take anything from my posts I hope it is, at least, that what I seek to expose, question and mock is not individual religious people nor their right to believe in anything but; moreover, i aim to attack their ideas and beliefs as tyrannical and wrong-headed. I know most believers have a hard time seperating their fairy-tales from their concepts of self but you must understand their is a difference and an attack on one (the belief) is not an attack on the other (you).

Hope that clears the air enough for you.

While I don’t necessarily agree with kicking anyone off of any website. But if it is a temptation to be there then you don’t need to be there. If anyone will cheat on their mate, they certainly don’t need Facebook to do it. It’s just another way for cheaters to cheat. No one is immune and no one can get away from it. All you can do is trust in the Lord, and pray that Satan can’t attack you. Keep your personal walk with the Lord strong.

This is exactly why I have a hard time with organized religion. I know this is only a small percentage of religious people but the hypocrisy kills me! This is why I left religion for so long. It was actually Glenn that brought me back into religion and away from just being ‘spiritual’. But I now have my eyes open…

If you look up “shepards” in a Bible concordance, you will find that GOD’s word does not say a lot of good things about earthly shepards. Many times, the shepards are in worse shape than the sheep, but since we are to have an individual, personal relationship with our creator, we should not depend on what the pastor does or does not do. Best thing is to read the Bible and obey what it says to do. Remember, it is easier for “organized religion” to try to make us all bricks too. And….all organized religions are man made!!

When Jesus came into the world the established religion was just as bad. He constantly rebuked the Pharisees for their hypocrisy, but gathered to himself humble men and women who with honest hearts had repented of their sin. The real church of Jesus Christ should not be confused with the established church. We have wheat and tares growing together at this time, which are to be separated by the angels at the second coming. The wheat will be gathered into God’s barn, while the tares will be destroyed. God is not mocked, only those who do God’s will are his children, the others are children of the devil.

The visible church is in terrible shape just as Jesus said it would be in the last days. “Many will fall away”, he said. It is our personal responsibility to seek and to obey God regardless of what others around us are doing. God’s real children are those who do so, and they will be rewarded with eternal life. The pastor in question should have stepped down or been forced to step down to avoid bringing any more shame to his church. How in heavens name could he continue to do marriage counseling.

He bashes religion because he is a secular humanist and can’t come to terms with the fact that this philosophy is completely irrational at its core. It makes him feel better to try to convince himself and everyone else that a belief in God is evidence of a deluded mind. Otherwise, he might have to examine his own faulty belief system.

      @Butcher,
Your words: “well, after centuries of christian missionaries pushing their beliefs and forcing patronage on destitute, starving people in the third world in by disguising it with food and medicine I think it only fair that a non-believer should return the favor.”
You obviously have no understanding of the teachings of Christ, so how can you be so critical of Christianity? Here are the basics: Love and serve your fellow man and teach him the gospel. Why teach him the gospel? So that he can have the knowledge to fulfill the necessary requirements(faith, charity, etc.) to return to live with God after this life and have eternal happiness. This “evil” by Christian missionaries of giving people food and medicine while preaching to them was an attempt to follow the teachings of Christ, not to coerce or trick them. It is very convenient for you to point to the various historical abuses of religion to justify your athiesm – fine. But if you wanted to really be honest about the role of religion in the world(which you don’t), you would have to look at the contemporary role of religion and the amount of suffering that is currently allleviated around the world by churches large and small. But I guess that wouldn’t fit your narrative, would it?
      Care to respond???

agent, do you really want to have an honest discussion on the effects of religion? I’d love to.

What you fail to see is that I (and most anti-theists) aim to discredit the religion(s) not the people who believe in them. Goodness and morality have been around much longer than the Abrahamic religious structure and the very bible you selectivly quote if full of atrocities and unjust dictates from ignorant bornze age social-pimps/pseudo-philosophers. How do you reconcile the artocities of Exodus, Leviticus and John?

I still contend that almost all mission work is done on a nefarious blackmail basis. “here, come to our service. eat, drink and heal yourselves while we tell you the good word and indoctronate on the basis of easing suffering.” These are the same tactics used by Hamas, Hizzbollah and a litany of terrorist organizatrions.

Christianity’s main message is not love and service to your fellow man (have you even read the entire bible?). The main message of chritianity is “jesus is the only way, all other ways are evil and condemned to eternal damnation.” If you mean to suggest that by rejecting your false god that I and other non-believers; therefore, believe in hate, despotism and don’t care about anything then you, sir, are brainwashed to an alarming degree. You can not de facto argue that “jesus is love” when to do so all you’re doing is anthropamorhizing an intangible sentiment (love) onto a possibly ficticious literary character (jesus) and then claim that to reject him is to reject love. That is not how things work, Sir!

I prefer much more to base my moral ponderances on Socrates, Voltaire, Thomas Jefferson, Orwell, literature, science and various other sources that CAN be questioned and debated.

None of the thoughts expressed by these men has ever lead to the kind of tyranny that jesus begot.

      that’s the REAL truth.

MrB – I’m impressed with your knowledge and intelligence. But you must realize that you cannot disprove the deity of Jesus. So why do you spend so much time battling Christians on this website? Other than your own personal satisfaction of getting the last word, why would you argue with such passion and effort? What could you possibly have to offer a Christian? Renouncing one’s faith and living a brief, meaningless, purposeless and ultimately sad life? Perhaps you might consider these questions and wonder if you might be trying to fill a void that’s within you. Otherwise, might I suggest spending less time on this site and more time maximizing your pleasure during what precious little time you have left in existence.
