Facebook Blocks 600,000 Logins Each Day

Facebook recently released an info graphic boasting about itself during National Cybersecurity Awarness Month, showing an intricate pathway of all the features that protect its users.
Compared to email, of which 89 percent is spam, Facebook states 4 percent of content shared on its site is spam. It also brings up this interesting little tidbit: Only 0.06 percent of more than 1 billion logins per day are compromised. What does this mean? According to a Facebook representative, this means 600,000 logins are blocked per day as a preventative measure — that’s one every 140 milliseconds.
Facebook acknowledges in its blog post that “there is plenty more work to be done.“ One step it has taken is introducing a new security feature called ”Trusted Friends.” According the blog post, this feature would help you verify your identity if you ever got locked out of your account and didn’t have access to your email. Facebook would send codes to the friends you pick, which they send to you. Mashable points out that this is an added security measure if your email is compromised too and that codes coming from your friends verified your identity than the usual “Forgot Your Password” email. But, then again, Naked Security notes that your Facebook hacker could change your “trusted friends” too.
Care to see a dramatized example of what can happen when someone does get ahold of your Facebook login? Check this Blaze article out.
In response to privacy issues surrounding Facebook and frustration with endless redesigns, a new anti-Facebook social media website,“Unthink”, has formed. Unthink, which The Blaze reported about on Wednesday, hopes to unseat Facebook of its 800 million users.
This post has been updated for clarity. The post originally stated that 600,000 accounts were compromised each day. Facebook has clarified stating that this many account are blocked each day.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 6:07pmMy mother was notified by Facebook that they didn’t believe she was a real person – they insisted that she send them her phone number for verification. well, she doesn’t have a phone # since she lives with me … then they said send them her address and a copy of a bill that she pays from that address… well, she doesn’t pay any bills, since she lives with me… they refused to let her log on and communicate with her grandchildren and children (those were her only friends) … SCREW YOU FACEBOOK !!!

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 2:56pmI removed all indicators of my location from my profile, but my grandson was blocked yesterday from logging into his account, FB stated it was because someone else had attempted to log in from Michigan. I am not sure why because all he does is play games on the account. If it is a preditor, they are now aware that I monitor his account and will be aware of any BS they try to pull.

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 1:17pmFacebook feeds email addresses to Obama for campaign reasons I think. This could be used for others reasons as well. Mark Z is a dedicated Obama supporter! Terrorist could use FB to find your location if you didn’t have your security setting set correctly. Even if you set them correctly, I have had my settings change automatically. Remember the guy who said, ” we know who you are, we know where you live, we know how you voted” Anyone can even determine your location when you post a picture from your cellphone! Employers use FB to research future employees in hiring and also gather info on present employees. Lawyers use FB post in legal cases and so on! I no longer use FB. All internet post can be traced for that matter. I post things on some sites that probably could cause a person problems but the truth has no agenda and we should post truth even when we might face persecution for posting it! Imagine Glenn saying what he says while he is speaking truth, of course he has many body guards and I hope they can protect him..I respect him for sticking his neck out to give people truth. When it gets down the the truth, God is our only true protection for eternity!..

Posted on October 29, 2011 at 7:31amThe issue is that identifying your friend compromises their security and privacy. Facebook is amassing a huge intelligence database that many government espionage entities would pay handsomely to have access to. Oh, too late, they already do.

Posted on October 29, 2011 at 1:11amIt doesn’t really matter, does it? Compromised? Really? Who is hacking into my account “Saligners Ghost” or “William Shakespeare” or “Bob’s Dog”? If anyone really is putting important personal information on Facebook they are idiots. Simple as that. I personally think Facebook must be stopped for the good of the world.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 7:29pmI have had problems way to many times. Inter locking or portals of information that can pop up and be obtained anywhere by anyone who is a friend is very un secure. Im learning about this spamming problem. Someone knowing about you in your state is scary somebody knowing about you in another country is way more scary.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 4:30pmSo don‘t post important personal information on facebook and you’ll be fine. All facebook is is a publicly available forum where your life is the thread topic. Expecting it to be locked down like fort knox is a little stupid.
Nothing that is connected to the internet is ever going to be 100% secure, but the truth of the matter is that most people that get “hacked” are somehow falling prey to phishing and giving people their information. Either directly through scams that only idiots fall for or from somehow getting tricked into installing a keylogger on their systems.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 4:24pmEmail is 89 percent spam? Yeah, I believe it, but I remember the day when I heard the percentage of spam had topped 50 percent. It seems like just yesterday.
Thank goodness for Gmail’s spam filters.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 4:08pmOnline security is a rouse. Always has been. Give someone your bank, your username and password and they’re in like flint. That’s not security. Want to make a few billion dollars? Develop online security so that only your network adaptor’s MAC Address (all are unique) can use specific logins. It’s still not perfect but at least someone using your credentials will have to be using your hardware to login with your credentials. And that means someone far from your hardware can’t login.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 4:34pmUnfrotunately, that’s not true. You can set your MAC address to anything you want without any network traffic issues. It would be awesome if it were that easy though…

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 4:35pmAlthough you would need to know the correct mac address, mac addresses can be easily spoofed.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 4:31pmYou can NOT do that! You’re gonna get in big trouble. Facebook is going to sue you. It’s probably illegal, or at least it will be once PARASITE or PARANOID or whatever the heck that new laws called. Facebook will be able to point a boney finger at faceshrug and shut it right down. (research this law!)

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 4:10pmHardly what I’d call SixSigma quality. If security is no priority, and based on these disturbing revelations I‘d have to say it isn’t, for either FaceBook OR users, then you are in the right place. A fetid toilet bowl that cultivates criminal behavior.
If airlines had that kind of quality, we’d be burying thousands of people every week that flew the friendly skies.

The Occupiers on FB started a fan page for him, and Yeah, turns out he maybe wasn’t such a swell marine:

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 9:52pmThey also reserve the right to shut down your account if you use a pseudonym. Same with Google Plus.
Google Plus is even worse, because they’ll also shut down your YouTube, Gmail, Blogger, and other Google-related accounts at the same time.
If you do any conservative or counterjihad blogging, Google and Facebook are NOT your friends.
I have never set up an account on either one, and never plan to.
