Facebook Founder Zuckerberg Makes Surprise Appearance on SNL

NEW YORK (AP) — Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and his “The Social Network” doppelganger Jesse Eisenberg made friends on “Saturday Night Live.”

Zuckerberg joined host Eisenberg for the opening monologue of the show Saturday. The two said they had never met, despite Eisenberg playing Zuckerberg in the widely hailed, Oscar-nominated film.

Cast member Andy Samberg tried his own impression of the Facebook CEO but quickly left — exclaiming “Awkward!” once Zuckerberg took the stage.

Eisenberg told Zuckerberg that he liked him on “60 Minutes” and then asked if he had seen “The Social Network.” Zuckerberg, who has called the film inaccurate, responded that he had seen the film and that it was “interesting.”

Eisenberg accepted that answer and the two high-fived.

That Facebook CEO would fit in with SNL. They both are boring.

This may be overly critical, but the way I see SNL. The opening Bachmann skit really ruined this show for me. They usually try to expose some element of truth in their political sketches, this did not. I guarantee you they knew the story of why she wasn’t looking into the CNN camera because she was looking into the camera that was directly addressing the Tea Party who asked her to speak in the first place, right? They don’t care to get it right because they are playing their politics. This is the same reason they play Obama straight without much exaggeration…they are afraid to lampoon him because they love him immensely. …And by the way, the opening Bachmann skit got about zero laughs. It was lame.

I always find it odd that people say “back when SNL was funny” I have watched since show one, and there were lean years, but to say that the 70‘s and 80’s were better than the Phil Hartman era is ludicrous. What about the 90′s with all the members who are now in films? When you look back the Eddie Murphy stuff, was overall not that funny. Some yes, but no era defines the show. Those who say the best was in the past, most likely have not watched since ‘85 or so.

SNL was NEVER as funny as you remember it.
Even in the groundbreaking 70s, you would spend 90 minutes WAITING for one or two good sketches.

The reality is, most of the sketches were awful and went on too long.
We make the mistake of thinking every Saturday Night at 11:35p in 1977 was like watching one of the “best of” DVDs where they go straight from Samurai Deli to Emily Litella to Weekend Update with Father Guitto Sarducci and Rosanne Rosannadanna to the music act the George Harrison/Paul Simon duet, and then closing with the Bass-o-matic.

Nope. The first cast were funny because they were like nothing on TV before them.
But they weren’t consistently funny, nor were they the funniest cast. They were usually just a bunch of out of control, coked up guys with one or two funny sketches a week.

Arguably, they weren’t even the funniest group anyway. That didn’t happen until the late 80s, early 90s period.

Do you think using LOL makes you look like an adult? It makes you look like a child. Like Facebook or not, they do not place a value on their company. Others do it. (It’s worth at least 50 billion, and will be worth more when they go public in a few years) Sorry about that your wealth envy is showing. Insert childish acronym here: ___________

I tell my boys, 19 and 14 about the “good old days” of SNL….wet your pants funny back in the 70‘s and 80’s….the show really sucks now. Hard to tune in and reserve that TV time….Especially when the commercials are funnier than the show. I cannot imagine Zuckerberg, Eisenberg, and Samberg making anyone laugh…sigh.

SNL is about as good now as it was back in the day. You have—what, exactly—to look back on from the 70s? A few hilarious highlight sketches, from years of material? You get about the same ratio now. Some of it still is “wet your pants funny,” it’s just we don’t have decades of “Best-Of” shows from these last few seasons yet to remind us of the good stuff.

      @ABELLEMORTE –
Agreed! SNL used to be funny. I now try to catch the opening monologue because I love the impersonations. If I miss it, though, it will be on a video somewhere if it’s good. Otherwise, “Never mind!” (Remember?)

I watched this monologue twice. The second viewing didn’t help the first; the first viewing didn’t justify the second viewing. Sorry.

When they did George W. Bush, they were funny. (George W. Bush was funny!) The ones they do of Obama are hysterical! They are entertaining. Obama gives them plenty of material to make fun of!
