False: Reports That Iran Freed Woman Set to Hang

Reports that Iran had released an adulteress woman accused of killing her husband, and who was set to be stoned and then hanged because of that accusation, are now reportedly false.

Yesterday, word quickly spread around the internet that Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani had been released by the Iranian government and no longer had to fear for her life.

But soon after the pictures aired on state-owned TV, the reports of her release could not be confirmed.

“What we hear is still very contradictory, even coming from state media,” Ahmad Fatemi with the International Committee Against Stoning told The Globe and Mail from Sweden Thursday evening. “We are trying to get to the bottom of this.”

By Friday morning, the Iranian government had cleared up the confusion: Ashtiani had been taken back to her home to confess to her husband’s murder and re-create the crime scene where she supposedly killed him.

“Contrary to a vast publicity campaign by Western media that confessed murderer Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani has been released, a broadcast production team with the Iran-based Press TV has arranged with Iran’s judicial authorities to follow Ashtiani to her house to produce a visual recount of the crime at the murder scene,” Press TV said on its website, according to Al Jazeera.

The TV outlet said it would air the program on Friday evening.

    The Cheating Bit**, if she murdered her husband and cheated on him she should be given a death sentence for the murder. Let the country pick the punishment, and like so many on this site say time after time, if they don’t like our laws move, so we should stay out of their country and let them have their laws.

      I agree. If she murdered her husband. Although I don‘t like the idea of stoning it’s not my country, I don’t get to decide their laws.

      The problem is once Islam starts moving into another country, there Laws move into that country also! Sharia law is nothing to be messed around with. Look at Europe! They just tried to get some sharia laws in some places in our country on the ballet! IT is coming here, and these people have no mercy. With Sharia law, If a husband or a father wants to kill or beat his wife or children they can and under sharia law it is alright, and they won’t be punished for it…

      We don’t know the whole story ether! I don‘t trust any story that comes from some of these muslims country’s, have of them are not truthful and honest and do not tell the WHOLE TRUTH! Just like in our own country, we have journalist and news stations that are not telling us the whole truth! These people are monsters, and if she did murder her husband, what was the reason behind it, was it self DEFENSE or murder. And would they tell us the truth if it was self Defence, she is a woman , a wife in a muslim country, woman have no rights they consider them lower then the animals, and this is truth, they are OWNED property by the husbands and fathers.

      I will say this, if she did murder him in cold blood, then Yes, of course she deserves to be punished. All I know is that you cannot trust anything you read or hear with these people they CAN lie to get their way!

      You’re a tad off track about women being lower than animals.

      That was the norm before the Koran. Sharia Law elevates women from lower than animals to above animals, but lower than men. They’re just a nicer piece of property.

      I kind of agree with Disabledvet. It is their country and it’s an internal issue to them. We’re hated world wide because we constantly try to interfer with our values. I’m sorry for the woman but this is a problem they have to deal with. It’s not our place to interfer.
