DEMOPOLIS, Ala. (AP) — A small plane crashed in Alabama after one of its engines failed, killing a family of seven onboard, authorities said Sunday.
Marengo County Coroner Stuart Eatmon said the couple and their five young children were returning to Florida from a family reunion in St. Louis when the crash happened Saturday night.
They tried landing the Cessna C421 at an airport in Demopolis after it lost its right engine Saturday night, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker said in an email. The plane — which was flying from St. Louis to Destin, Fla. — crashed in a wooded area within two miles of the airport.
Eatmon identified the dead as: Fred Teutenberg, 42; his wife, Terresa, who was in her mid-30s; their daughter Emma, 2; their son Peyton, 4; their daughter Ellie, 6; their son Brendon, 9; and their son Will, 10. They are from the Destin area.
The coroner said that relatives told him the Teutenbergs were flying back Saturday so they could make it to church the next day.
Searchers found the plane around 2:17 a.m. Sunday. The crash site was in a densely wooded area.
Eatmon said the plane was upside-down and one of its wings had broken off, apparently as it crashed into trees.
FAA records show that the plane was built in 1978. It’s registered to Advanced Integrated Technology Solutions LLC in Niceville, Fla. A message left seeking comment from the company wasn’t immediately returned.

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 11:52amSee the whole point that A FAMILY was killed on a plane was lost when they decided it was caused by them flying home to go to CHURCH the next day.. Needless to say IF your flying your in a hurry.. or you would DRIVE.. however the fact you could take a plane and fly in with enough time to make it to CHURCH the same day .. so they didn’t have to leave a day early but it seems to promote their anti-church propaganda.. My the family survivors of this family find peace in the days ahead and the family find peace with our Lord..

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 11:39amI am a Firefighter north of Destin, FL, where this family lived. They were wonderful and caring people who had beautiful children and an amazing family. They brought us food for no reason, they stopped by to say hello, attended functions here with us and for us and they genuinely cared about their community. These people are model citizens and human beings and we will miss them dearly. Can we stop getting caught up in debating fate or reason and just allow their remaining family and friends to mourn? I think what the article is stating is this family’s devotion to their faith and community, can we just look at that instead of focusing on if you think the plane is too old or shouldn’t be in service?

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 8:32amThis might sound weird, and I really don’t mean it to, but they all went together. No one was left behind to mourn for the rest of their life with the loss of their whole family. I agree with other people that this is an attempt to bring up the fact that they went to church. It doesn’t really matter where they were going. To church, to a ballgame, etc. they never got there.

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 9:44amYou did miss the point…. We are not here forever and some less time here then others… But where are you going for eternity? They were obviously faithful to their church and more then likely faithful to the Lord… It’s more important to know where your final destination is. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, and that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life! Sounds like they had priorities right…

And it takes forever before you actually get to the point of what you wanted to say! I‘ve seen your kind in every bar I’ve ever been in. You’re exactly like that pathetic, obnoxious, lush Cliff Clavin from Cheer’s. And just for your own personal edification. Posted on July 11, 2011 at 7:54amThe article said the aircraft was upside down in the woods. Having been a pilot for the over 43 years I suspect the accident was pilot failure to control a twin engine aircraft with an engine out.
When a twin enigine aircraft looses an engine the pilot looses all the trust from one side of the aircraft. He must use the rudder to keep the aircraft flying strait. Also what most people don‘t know is if the pilot lets the aircraft’s airspeed, in this situation, get too low the torch on the good engine will take over the aircraft and cause it to roll over on it’s back. All the efforts of the pilot will not stop the aircraft from rolling onto it’s back unless he reduces the power on the operating engine. There is a blue line on the airspeed indicator the signifies the single engine safety speed and the pilot must keep the airspeed above this line. The aircraft’s weight, center of gravity, and good engine power out put all have an effect on Vyse or single engine safety speed! My heart goes out to all the victims in this terrable crash.

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 7:46amI know it is tough on the remaining family, but it was a blessing that they got to see the family, one last time before they died. They were able to say “ goodbye” and their “I love you”. It reminds me of that reporter David Bloom (?) who died in the Iraq war. He was riding in the tank. They stopped. He took the time to call all of his loved ones and then died of a blood clot.
It may have been that families time. It is a blessing that the family got to see them before they died. It could have been a drunk driver or anything.

Scott Baker has impressive journalistic skills as a writer from a Christian perspective. Reading and skimming an article are two different things. Comprehensive reading and thoughtfull posting are admirable skills as well. : ) (If a post with my name comes up empty–I’m not used to the format change as yet) I think it’s great we can see what we posted on one page–makes you think twice before posting! Posted on July 11, 2011 at 3:45amMy father had 1940′s aircraft (two antique Stinsons) that he flew for years and years … right into the 2000′s. Private aircraft are required to go through a yearly inspection… where the engines are taken apart and inspected. Sounds like this might have been a “corporate” aircraft — I don’t know for certain but I would think it required at least the same. Engines can fail at anytime .. even new I don’t think this had much to do with the age of the craft .. just a very unfortuanate accident.

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 1:55pmAn aircraft built in 1978 is not terribly old. Planes aren’t cars and are maintained to far higher standards. You would be surprised at how many aircraft from the ‘50s and ’60s fly overhead every day.

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 3:09amSo sad! Thoughts and prayers to those they left behind. I recall when I was young when we flew on family vacations my mother took one of us on one flight and my father another on a different flight. I asked once why we didn’t fly together and I was told: “In case there is a plane crash at least some of the family will survive.” Thirty years later that still sticks with me and I wonder why more families don’t take such precautions.

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 2:44amMaybe I’m missing something, but the headline reads “Family of Seven Dies in Alabama Plane Crash…Trying to Make to Church on Time”. This, I think, and correct me if i’m wrong, that the father was responsible for crashing the plane, or made a judgement error that killed his family,,,, for the sole purpose to make it to church on time. I fail to find anything in this article that supports that. So, am I missing something, sorry, I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I don‘t believe I’m that dense! Or, could it be a slam against Christians,,, again. Sorry, either way, don’t get it.
What a terrible trajedy nonetheless. I feel very sorry for their loved ones, if I was the grandparent, I don’t think I could handle that personally. May God be with them..
