Family Research Council Demands Apology for ‘Hate Group’ Label

The Family Research Council, a prominent voice in social politics, is demanding an apology from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) after the liberal nonprofit group declared the Christian conservative organization as a “hate group” because of their anti-gay rhetoric.

FRC president Tony Perkins is fighting back, accusing the SPLC of engaging in a “deliberately timed smear campaign.” Fox News reports:

This week the SPLC listed 18 “hate groups” — the FRC among the most prominent of them — which the law center says “have continued to pump out demonizing propaganda aimed at homosexuals and other sexual minorities.”

Perkins responded with a published statement Wednesday, blasting the SPLC for being a “massively funded liberal organization that operates under a veneer of public justice when, in fact, they seem more interested in fundraising ploys than fighting wrongdoing.”

He called “on the Southern Poverty Law Center to apologize for this slanderous attack and attempted character assassination.”

Eighteen different groups were singled out by the SPLC as “hate groups.”  While the SPLC’s magazine, “Intelligence Report,“ claimed that ”viewing homosexuality as unbiblical does not qualify organizations for listing as hate group,” editor Mark Potok criticized FRC’s Perkins as a “key critic of anti-bullying programs.”

“The leaders of this movement may deny it, but it seems clear that their demonization of homosexuals plays a role in fomenting the violence, hatred and bullying we’re seeing,” Potok said.

The SPLC’s description of FRC focuses mostly on research fellows Tim Dailey and Peter Sprigg, who are charged with circulating “false accusations linking gay men to pedophilia.”

In 2008, the mag notes, Sprigg was asked about uniting gay partners during the immigration process and responded, “I would much prefer to export homosexuals from the United States than to import them.”  Though Sprigg later apologized for the remark, the SPLC continued to criticize subsequent statements that suggested gay behavior should be allowed and that the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell would result in more accounts of sexual assault in the military.

With this designation, the SPLC equates the FRC with such notorious groups as the Ku Klux Klan, New Black Panther Party, the Nation of Islam and Aryan Nation.

This Flavor of the week is the Gay Issue. Last Month Immigration. ALWAYS Social Justice. But Equality is supposed to be earned, even though Lincoln used in in a speech. So this week you Advocate for Gays against a Church or Organization that reflects the majority vote.

The SPLC is a far left organization and spends just as much time denigrating conservatives, Republicans and anyone who holds firmly to the belief that the Constitutuion is the best approach to life , Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I fully supported the SPLC for many years UNTIL they went after Glenn Beck, Bill O Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. I am 100% for civil rights as I am equally for the US Constitution. The SPLC seems to be drifting toward the line of thinking that reminds us that we should all be POLITICALLY CORRECT even when that goes against the Constitution. Morris Dee’s intentions were and probably still are Honorable and I support anyone who fights for equality. When that fight for equality takes on a poitically correct approach, I’ll draw a line there. Beck, O’Reilly, Limbaugh and Coulter are not in the same category as the Klan, Skinheads and any white supremist and the SPLC does an injustice by painting them with the same brush. So. SPLC, call them as they are, not what you want them to be.

let’s see, gay men want to have sex with little boys and boys and teenagers so they can teach them homosexuality. gay men want homosexuality to be taught as early as 1st Grade in schools so the little boys can “decide” if they want to be homosexuals and so they will know how to SUBMIT to sex with a man. isn’t that called PEDOPHILIA.

isn‘t obama’s school czar that gay guy who encouraged a teenager to keep having sex with an old deviate?! so, since that gay guy is a fan of NAMBLA, and he said that to a kid, he must be a pedophile TOO. of course obama is fine with that, just ask Larry Sinclair in Chicago.

any deviate teacher “teaching” OUR kids about homosexuality and preaching that is a CHOICE our kids should make so they can be more easily raped by some pedophile gay deviate democrat is going to meet the wrath of some very angry straight American males AFTER our women get done with the pedophile and we have Native American in our ancestry.

screw obama’s laws protecting these deviates. obama wants our children assaulted by his buttbuddies and he has his SPLC hard at work on his agenda to demonize GOOD STRAIGHT CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE AMERICANS. just one more attack on AMERICAN VALUES.

joke will be on these gay democrats once they empwer sharia law in America, because 1, WE will not help defend these gay deviates, and 2, islam says KILL the homosexual by fire or hurl it off a cliff.

Good point! These people are too cowardly to go after Islam for “homophobia” yet they will bully anyone who they think will not fight back. There is nothing wrong with believing marriage is between a man and a woman since it is better for society and for raising kids.

I think “homosexuals” identify their whole person with the term. It becomes “who” they are instead of being a term applied to the acts they may do. Thus, in their eyes, it sounds lame to say “we hate the sin and love the sinner.” But they forget that we are all sinners, and there are a myriad of sins. A good sinner can turn something intended for good into something bad – sound familiar? It is the scriptures that describe what a Holy God would prefer we do, kind of like an “owners manual” from the inventor or maker. “Change your oil every 3,000 miles” is a good target, but many, perhaps most, do not do that for one reason or another. The car still runs, but the effects may not be seen for years or thousands of miles. All sins are problematic. All have bad effects, even if there is an immediate reward (saving money in the short term only to have to spend even more to replace an engine or the entire vehicle sooner than otherwise). Homosexual acts fall into this category as does all sin. Best to try to live life according to the “owners manual” of the inventor or creator, who knows far more about the created than they will ever know. The Creator loves perfectly, we cannot but try.

I agree with Sparky 101 Homosexuality tends to consume the entire individual like an organic disease. To define your total self or being as a HomoSEXUAL seems overtly SEX CENTERED and SELF centered to me. This is a very dangerous development and may explain why they see nothing wrong with pedophilia and feel justified in recieving financial help for their diseases from straights. Predatory behavior becomes justified also.

Don’t forget to list Yaweh on the suit, although it may be kind of tough to subpoena him for a deposition. here is where He stands on the matter: Romans 1:26
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, spiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

(Don’t forget one thing; there will be a subsequent appeal and any guilty verdict overturned with impunity on Judgement Day regardless of how hig a court this frivilous suite gets to! Woe, Woe, Woe! To the inhabitants of the Earth for, reason of their iniquities). LOL

You quote Romans 1, but start as verse 26. Why? The verse STARTS with “For this cause” or “For this reason” in some tranlations. For What cause or reason?? What is the reason or cause that God gave up on the people Paul is talking about? To understand THAT you MUST go back a few verses.

Romans 1:21-23 “21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.”

These are the people Paul is talking about in verses 26-31 — IDOL WORSHIPPERS.

Now, you can read those verses to be against homosexuality… but that is not how I read them.

“false accusations linking gay men to pedophilia.”

Sorry, the numbers don’t lie. “The report entitled ‘Homosexuality and Child Sexual Abuse’, shows that while homosexual men make up less than three per cent of the adult male population, they commit a disproportionate number (one third or more) of child sexual molestations.”

The North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) is not a heterosexual group by any stretch of the imagination. It is also a respected group in G/L circles.

This is an excellent demonstration that the so-called Family Research Council does not do genuine research, but merely acts as a right wing propaganda machine. Timothy Dailey of the FRC misrepresents the data of real scientists in order to distort their conclusions. Although Dailey doesn’t report it (for obvious reasons), all of the scientists whose numbers he uses, draw diametrically opposite conclusions from his. Specifically they reject the assertion that homosexuals commit relatively more sexual assaults on children than heterosexuals. For a detailed account of the studies, including statements by the research scientists themselves, you should read “Homosexuality and Child Sexual Abuse: Science, Religion, and the Slippery Slope” by Mark Pietrzyk at http://www.internationalorder.org/scandal_response.html.
For example, Dr. Gene Abel, whose data is cited frequently by the FRC, states explicitly: “Most men who molest little boys are not gay.” Did you get that: they’re “n
Distorting scientific data in order to support prejudice is gross and stupid. It’s also a principal reason for condemning the FRC as a hate group. If you want to ignore scientists’ own words and conclusions and twist their scientific data to justify your biases, then you’re clearly a hater too.

Notice that most all of the instances reported did not involve pedophilia, but were grown men and post-pubescent males. Another term eitirely is applied to such actions, but the media refused to use it. Pedophilia is quite different, dealing with pre-pubescent boys and girls. But, even giving you that easement, consider that only one sex has formed a national group, the North American Man-Boy Love Association, NAMBLA.

On his resignation from NARTH he said “I am not gay and never have been.” The scandal became popular fodder for media commentators and comics. CONTACT: J.P. Duffy or Darin Miller, (866) FRC-NEWS

FRC Statement on Dr. George Rekers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Family Research Council President Tony Perkins (FRC) released the following statement in response to calls regarding Dr. George Rekers and his connection with the Family Research Council:

“In the past 24 hours FRC has received calls regarding Dr. George Rekers and his connection with the Family Research Council. After reviewing the historical records we did verify that Dr. Rekers was a member of the original Family Research Council board prior to its merger with Focus on the Family in 1987.

“Reports have been circulating regarding Dr. Reker’s relationship with a male prostitute. FRC has had no contact with Dr. Rekers or knowledge of his activities in over a decade so FRC can provide no further insight into these allegations.

“While we are extremely disappointed when any Christian leader engages in the very activities that they ‘preach’ against, it is not surprising. The Scriptures clearly teach the fallen nature of all people. We each have a choice to act upon that nature or accept the forgiveness offered by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and do our best to ensure our actions, both public and private, match our professed positions.”

As people speak out against the liberal/progressive agenda more and more groups will be identified as “hate” groups. We will begin to see a time of persecution of Christians as never before seen in this country.

I was surprised to see that there is a movement to claim that child baptism is now considered by some to be “child abuse”. It seems everyone has rights except those who follow the the Christian faith as contained in the bible. It is interesting that the left repeatedly demands that the Ten Commandments be removed from public places. That is because their whole agenda violates everything about the Ten Commandments… right down to “coveting thy neighbor’s goods” (entitlement) and “do not steal” (taxation and redistribution). There is no getting around it. The bible does proclaim homosexuality as being “sin”. It will be interesting to see how the new translations of the bible that are coming out rewrite “the story”.

The ironically named Family Research Council – which does no genuine research – is a right wing propaganda outlet with a long history of promoting prejudice and misunderstanding. The Southern Poverty Law Center is correct in identifying them as a hate group. The thing that gets me about these jokers is their selective use of the Bible. Anyone who reads the Gospels – surely the most worthwhile part of the Bible – with any degree of insight or objectivity understands that Jesus would have rejected the right wing’s nasty antigay agenda.

Really bad editorialism here. Applying a “hate group” label to 18 different groups does not make them equally hateful, although the final line of this “news” clip makes that false assumption. Typical logical fallacies of the undisciplined right-wing mind…

The FRC is widely known for undermining efforts to rein in attacks on homosexuals, including lobbying for states and cities to not report anti-homosexual hate crimes to the FBI, which about one dozen states–all red, and in the South, as would be expected–consistently fail to do. Why this failure? Perhaps it is because they wish to hide the fact that one of the groups most at risk of crime in this country are gay people. For all the talk about white males and Christians being threatened–or at least that would be the inference drawn when watching O‘Reilly’s annual war on X-mas tirades–gays are an at-risk group that need to be protected from the bullying or criminal activities of bigoted people who believe (falsely) that God or the Bible is on their side. To the extent to which the FRC has continued these activities, it is properly referred to as a hate group, especially considering the fact that crimes against homosexuals because of their sexual orientation has been defined legally as a hate crime. Of course, this logic and these facts will be ignored by the right-wing conservatives that prefer their fantasy narratives to cold hard facts.

One of the premises of Christian thought is to “love the sinner and hate the sin”. Since Christians do not hate the sinner, laws would not apply. I suppose that the SPLC is just in favor of sin for the sake of sin. Groups like this that love sin for the sake of sin fall into a very narrow extreme (George Soros) category.

ABC – Your statement “applying a ‘hate group’ label to 18 different groups does not make them equally hateful” – if you are labeling them a hate group does it matter if you are at the bottom of the scale or at the top? To equate an organization that does not condone homosexuality as one that hates homosexuals is a stretch. Can you give some facts to this assertion that the FRC is ‘widely known’ for undermining efforts to rein in attacks on homosexuals and their lobbying efforts to ‘not report’ hate crimes against homosexuals? Right now your post falls into the ‘fantasy narrative’ description in you post. I am not disputing your claims – I just don’t see your facts. Side note: I don’t get the connection of Bill O’Reilly defending Christmas and how it relates with hate crimes against homosexuals – can you elaborate. Also since you are someone sensitive to hate speech and the power of words then know using X-mas takes Christ out of Christmas and can be offense to some Christians.

Pointing out that it is not ok is not hate speech, but truth! Truth! Truth! Read any translation of the Christian Bible, read the Koran, read just about any complete “Bible” from the major religions and guess what, homosexuality is not ok. Did Ron the Veteran just say he obviously doesn‘t hate homosexuals simply because he hasn’t murdered all of them yet?

      You people be crazy.

Also, why does everyone seem to have such a memory for Leviticus and its archaic laws, but can never remember, “blessed are the meek”, or “whatever you do onto the least of these brothers you do on to me”, or “love your neighbor as thyself”, or every other time Jesus has encouraged people of faith to be supportive of others. Did Jesus ever punish anyone for their sins? Didn’t Jesus go to the homes of the outcasts in his society, didn‘t Jesus tell us to remove the plank from our own eyes before removing the speck from another man’s eye, didn’t he show compassion to all regardless of their sins?

The Family Research Council is a group of judgmental individuals that have forgotten Christ’s lessons of compassion, don’t be Pharisees, don’t be moral policemen. Love one another, in spite of your disagreements as Jesus has instructed, don’t follow those who ask you to judge.

Gospel Declarer: “A man lying down with another man and believing it is wrong is not hate”. Correct, rather he is a penultimate example of cognitive dissonance! It is like on a subliminal level he knows it is abhorrent but consciously he is oblivious to the fact that he is bereft of a moral campus to know right from wrong due to the lies and propaganda he has been subjected to. “Where is your accepantance?” Not a word so it is hard for us Tea Party folk to know what you mean; possibly, tolerance, acceptance or leniency? “You believing (what) otherwise and not accepting that view (which specific view?) is hate.
