Famous Drill Instructor Says GEICO Fired Him for Criticizing Obama Admin.

Famous drill instructor Lee Ermey — best known for his appearance in the movie “Full Metal Jacket” — says he was fired from his gig as a GEICO insurance personality because he criticized President Obama.

Last December, Ermey — also known as “Gunney” — made headlines by blasting the economy and linking Obama to socialism:

But the plot thickened in January when Ermey came out and apologized, drawing the ire of some of his fans. And now, despite that apology, Ermey says GEICO fired him because of the statements.

Ermey had played a psychiatrist in a GEICO commercial and famously called his “patient” a “jackwagon.” When TMZ recently asked him about it, he said “GEICO fired me because I had– I wasn’t too kind about speaking with the– about the administration, so– the present administration — so they fired me.”

“So they fired you because of political reasons?” asked TMZ.

“Yeah,” he answered. “If you’re a conservative in this town, you better watch out.”

Watch it below:

Drill Sargeant Lee Ermey Says Geico Fired Him for Obama Socialism Comments

You can watch the “jackwagon” commercial below:

This isn’t the first time GEICO has canned someone for making political statements. GEICO voiceover man Lance Baxter was fired in April 2010 for leaving a nasty message on the voicemail of Freedomworks wondering if the group was “mentally retarded.”

I’ve had GEICO Insurance most all my driving life. It was (at the time) the only insurance company that would carry GI’s overseas and Uncle Sam pushed it hard.

TIME_2_END my GEICO insurance… and it WON’T be replaced by PROGRESSIVE.

I have to admit… my rates were/are very low and I’ve never had any issues with them.. BUT… now I guess I’ll have to throw a tissue box at these “Namby Pambies” for Obama.

I’ve been with State Farm since I was 16 (I’m 54 now) and the only time I wasn’t covered by them was for about 10 yrs while stationed overseas. I tried to get Geico when I first got to Italy but they wouldn‘t have anything to do with me saying I didn’t qualify for their insurance. That was the one and only time I tried to go with them. I didn’t like their treatment of me then and now I have all the more reason to avoid them like the plague. Besides, in the last few years of my career, I’d heard of numerous airmen, sailors, soldiers and marines who had been dropped by them after having only one accident. So their track record for coverage and dependability already leaves a lot to be questioned about them.

Drop GEICO Im sick of that stupid lil lizard too! (I know its a gecko) Arguments against boycotts do not hold water anymore in this day and age. Im a big Beck fan and know where he stands on boycotts but he boycotts too, even though he says hes against them. Beck said he wouldnt wear Levi’s anymore, well GB thats a boycott!

These companies need to understand that there is a cost to them too for their actions not ust the individual. Carbonite is still feeling the pinch since ppl turned on them when they dropped Rush. GEICO is next in the bullpen for a little education! Counter Boycott them savingtherepublic.com/Tactics/Entries/2012/3/5_20_Counter_Boycott.html

He is the only black that I’v seen the red go up his face when he gets mad – must be because of his white mamma. What do you expect ?
Geico owner Warren Buffet is Oblameo‘s number one ’Ear Whisperer”.

It’s the reason Oblameo would not sign onto the Canadian pipeline-
it would interfere with Buffet’s railway system that makes its money
transporting the fuel from Canada to the gulf & beyond

Buffet is not the grandfatherly figure, he wants you to believe he is.
Just like Oblameo, he is ALL about self.

The Geico Company has EXTREME crap, going on within its personnel
and employees, lawsuits left & right.
There is Extreme anti-gay bullying, in that company,
      which is downplayed & ditched.

Pretty ironic, how a big Lib, like Buffet allows such chaos to take place
      in his companies.
The “Practice what you preach” rule, apparently doesn’t include
      Buffet or Oblameo.
Sooner than later, Geico will be exposed for its hypocrisy & bull.

Buffet can’t pay everyone off to shut their mouths-
some people have a conscience, even though Buffet & his bullies do not.

I do hate the gecko, and I am SO tired of companies thinking we‘re such a bunch of idiots that we’ll buy anything as long as the sales pitch is made with a British accent.

Finally, you all do know that GEICO stands for Government Employees Insurance Company, and that it‘s wholly owned by Obama’s buddy Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, correct? Now that’s reason enough for me to buy elsewhere.

Smart businesses don’t get involved in politics or hire spokesmen that do. This was purely a business decision, and had nothing what so ever to do with R Lee’s politics. He would have been fired if he had come out against Willard (flipper)Romney or President Obama.

I too had their insurance while in the military and kept right up until 9/11. The USPS was shut down for several days due to the Anthrax scare and right around the first of Oct I got a letter from GEICO stating my insurance was cancelled. But my check had been cashed by them on the 20th of Sept. When I called to figure out what had happened they told me it was an error and they would REFUND my payment and I would have to resubmit may payment plus a new charge( one month policy payment up front) and an increase in my rate by 10%. I told them to screw off and a few other things and went to State Farm. Haven t regretted it at all.

You‘re abandoing a company you’ve had no issues with because an actor, based soley on he-said-she-said, says a company fired him for knocking on Obama. What happened to “Shut Up & Sing” I thought you folks hated all those ‘hollyweird commie ********’?

I don’t care what Gieco did or what R. Lee Ermy’s opinion is, that’s not the point – the point is how bloody bat-ball nuts you guys are sometimes, if one person from one company says something you even vaguely disagree with you drop the company like a cannonball.

You guys are going to run out of companies, I mean Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were, as you say ‘DemoCraps’ so what kind of computer are you going to use? Oh, Linux? Heh… Might want to check into the freaks who make that!

Hate iPhone cause Apple is for liberal idiots? Use Android? WHOOPS. There’s still Firefox O.S…. Oh wait, they’re openinly liberal too…. Maybe y’all should just give up and live like the rest of humanity and deal with it.

Now that they’ve begun allowing any vet of a pay grade E-4 and above, they can only get stronger. I pay about the same for a year as it would cost me for 6 months at any other carrier, including Geico. I recommend USAA to anyone who qualifies. Same goes for Allstate for home owners insurance. They have both paid their claims very quickly and without hassles. The only reason why I had Allstate was because my house was so old that USAA wouldn’t cover it.

I’m with you on this one Grayling646. What most people don’t understand is that our 1st amendment rights only reach so far. If, as condition of employment, one decides to enact such a policy as yours, you are fully within your right. I may not agree with the act of stifling free speech but I also understand where you are coming from. As long as you apply it equally across the board there shouldn’t be a problem. Unlike a lot of schools who advocate the free exhange of ideas and degate where, as long as you praise and support Obama, you are in their good graces but if you disagree or say anything negative about him then may GOD have mercy on you. Perfect example of this was the teacher in N. Carolina this past spring when some of her students tried to debate her and her views. Absolutely wrong on her part!! And what did she get? An early start to summer vacation without so much as an admonition or verbal reprimand much less a written reprimand.

If the employer wants business from all comers without regard to their political leanings, then it’s absolutely the right thing to do to not have employees antagonize customers by discussing politics in the workplace, not to mention that it’s a quick way to get otherwise productive employees to spend more time arguing than working. Bottom line, it‘s the employer’s choice because it‘s the employer’s business. Don’t like it? Quit and start your own business, and you can spend your whole day talking politics and telling someone with an Obama bumper sticker to take his business elsewhere. Perhaps you don’t understand that an employer hires employees to perform certain duties in exchange for their compensation, and if the employer decides that making political statements is detrimental to the business, he has the right to tell them it’s off limits. Au contraire, mon ami. I’ve seen this busybody “I own you AND your opinions” approach taken by alleged conservatives/Christians. Granted, the left tends to be more apt to want to shut you up and shut you down, but they don’t hold a monopoly on this type of behavior. I was fired from a job for writing a letter to the editor as a private citizen that rankled the powers that be at a former place of employment. I wrote the letter (regarding substance abuse) on my own time, never identified my profession or employer… but, as is the policy of most (if not all) papers, had to give my full name and a general address. I didn’t disparage any particular concern; I merely challenged the wisdom and efficacy of throwing buckets of money at substance abusers and the act of compelling them into treatment. That was enough to fire up the so-called conservatives and Christians up the ladder at my place of employment to say I was no longer welcome. Why? Because I dared challenge mental health’s approach to dealing with junkies… or, more correctly, the allocation of funds (i.e., gubment money). I questioned the all-mighty (taxpayer) dollar. Hell, I even encouraged people to educate themselves on recidivism and the foolish notion that ANYONE can “cure” addiction. I even encouraged people to become politically active and contact their elected reps with concerns. BLASPHEMER!
So, no, the busybodies and thugs aren’t just on the left.

Sounds to me like your situation is half of a two sided story that we are not getting the other half of. The situation sounds odd and your employer more liberal than anything. Personally i think addicts getting coddled with government money is a waste of time and i’m as conservative as it gets. I say you get tested and stuff found in your system you get to sit in a small room with bars till the blood is clear. I don’t care what your situation is. There are consequences for your actions and you can’t take the easy way out. Rehab of that kind is a joke. Some teddy bear wielding psychologist liberal concept that thinks a boost in self esteem will trump a biological craving that powerful. You know, if you eat rat poison you pay the price. Do drugs and you might have to sit in a cell screaming with the shakes and die alone. Those drugs sound fun now? I’d help any man that really seeks help but the current system sees these people getting patted on the back and encouraged by other addicts at meetings for years. I guess i can say that i do not have the experience of “Being there” I kept straight and avoided that kind of thing so i expect people to live up to what i have and have little pity for those that can’t. I do however have compassion for genuine effort to break free of the chains but i will not be patient forever if it becomes a cycle.

BARBER2, I was talking about a price quote from GEICO back over thirty years ago when they could only sell insurance to government employees. I mean that it was actually more than three times most other quotes. It was ridiculous. Now, not only did I not have any tickets or accidents on my record, I was also in LE, and had numerous driving courses that were supposed to be good for safe driving discounts. The other companies did offer those discounts. GEICO wouldn’t even discuss it. I have laughed at their commercials that I do find funny, and the Ermey “Jackwagon” one was a favorite. I have no intention of ever even considering the purchase of their insurance, and now if they are going to treat Ermey that way for his thoughts and free speech. I’ll just mute their commercials from now on. Our cats would make a quick snack of that gecko too.

So, the Commander in Chief may just decide that if his Army‘s don’t like him, then their vote shouldn’t count. The Empty Suit King wants to hollow out those conservative voters. I figure they will have to pay twice for every piece of spam paper that they send me. Eventually the mailings stopped. Perhaps they got the message.

Insurance companies love obama. He is forcing everyone ( that works for a living ) to buy insurance or face the wrath of the IRS. Just like car insurance, once it is a law that you must have it the rates will sky rocket. That way medical care will be free at last, free at last, to everyone who have never worked for a living.

That’s not quite the whole story, Phineas. At the same time that he‘s requiring everyone to buy insurance he’s putting requirements on insurance companies to cover so many different things that they aren’t going to be able to afford to meet the government requirements. The next step is to drive the insurance companies out of business by making them so much more expensive than the government options, so that we wind up with a “single payor” system which is 100% government controlled.
That’s the long term plan of Obamacare.

The CEOs of GEICO and “Progressive” are both in the bag for their Marxist saviour. You’d think that ANY company that A) is out to make a profit and B) is in an industry that has been denigrated as much as the insurance industry has been by this regime, would have more conservative values.

I noticed nobody commented on your post. It seems very common for people to avoid the difficult conversations. People are just too naive (or ignorant) to believe what is happening. I wonder, “Is it just the internet crowd that is oblivious or is the majority of the population?” Maybe the people that truly understand are working/planning/saving instead of posting.

I’m a huge fan of Gunny. He’s done so many things for the Marines. His weapons show from a few years ago “Lock and Load” is hysterical and informative for both veterans and civilians. He writes columns in tactical weapons magazines that are great too.

We have to wonder, “Was there something in his contract limiting his public opinions?” Possibly. Like the gentleman here that doesn’t allow employees to talk politics on work property. Most places I’ve worked have that policy for the same reasons he stated. Also, papers were signed that said you are a representative of the company image while NOT WORKING. You sign because you need the job, but fail to understand the free speach implications.

FEMA/goulags? YES. Anybody denying it will be the first ones to change their thoughts/views or turn in their neighbors to survive.

We needed to change our insurance to save $ this year. Progressive (Soros funded) was out. We considered Gecko (lol) but upon the Gunny incident decided not to look into their prices.

I don’t avoid it.I know the truth and you hit the nail on the head. Its also much worse than you imagine. Its not just mental orders either. Its physical ones as well. You can be forced into medical treatment for a non existant disease and literally treated to death.Cancer is a favorite one.its easier to fake than most.Their are quite a number of diseases that can be faked where the treatment will kill you,[even if healthy you won't be for long they will see to it].There are a number of naturally occuring diseases that are mistaken for lethal disease.First off the top of my head would be blastocycosis.its a fungal infection that Amphotericin can cure.It many times is misdiagnosised as a form of cancer. This is from docs who care and are honest. In the US its seen as rare and many don’t have experience with it.
They learned from their nazi masters. They will use this and home based medicine to kill. You will be transported to the local morgue for temporary storage then the train ride to the crematorium AKA Fema Camps. This way no evidence of cattle cars living victims or the other sundry list of atrocities. When asked if ever, well you know it was the publics good. They were afterall crazies destined to destroy blah blah. All as an excuse for their own atrocities.
Brings me around to another point.Obama is the icing on the cake.He didn’t do this himself. He is merely the public centerpiece of sixty years worth of work by the inside enemy. He is not the puppetmaster merely the puppet.

That pendulum swings both ways. Granted, leftist and progressives are more militant in their “do as I say… or else” antics, but to assume there are not authoritarians and busybodies on the right with the same mindset is naive. The temperance movement comes to mind and elements on the right will latch onto the “ban it/burn it” brigade that is often politicized by the left (see the PMRC and the general attack on the entertainment industry… right-leaning kooks have seen the devil in books and art for centuries and now in electronic media).
Anyone here still watching Bill O’Reilly? Yeah, tell me he’s not a so-called conservative all about controlling thought and behavior. And I used to be a VERY loyal viewer.
Remember Peter King wanting to take your guns? I do.
Here’s a thought: Beware any man or concern with THE ANSWER. There‘s a good chance you’re about to be told what you can’t think or do. And when these goons are in power, it really doesn’t matter whether they lean left or right. What matters is they can and will step on you.

In general, I agree. Progressives are shameless authoritarians, but my experience has been that not all Ds are progressives (see my home state’s Joe Manchin) and there are more than a few progressive Rs (oh, for example Mitt Romney, John McCain, et al.). And let‘s clarify what we’re really referring to: An authoritarian approach to underlings vs. an authoritative approach.
Mandating that probes be shoved up inside pregant women to prove to them their pregant before an abortion? Um… they probably already know that… SINCE THEY’RE CHOOSING TO GET AN ABORTION. I am by no means an abortion proponent (legalized in this country by cowardly mental gymnastics), but this is one of the best recent examples of stupid crap backed by so-called conservatives. NOT a way to win the fence sitters to the cause. Just proves some on the right can be as stupid and authoritarian as those on the left.
