Fatal Wound: Armed Florida Homeowner Exchanges Gunshots With Robbery Suspects

Police are looking for a second  suspect after an attempted home invasion robbery in an Orlando suburb erupted into a barrage of gunfire, leaving another suspect dead at the scene.Armed Florida Homeowner Exchanges Gunshots With Robbery Suspects | Orlando

The Orlando sentinel reports that two men entered a residence at 149 E. 18tStreet, and one  suffered a fatal wound during an exchange of gunfire. The other suspect remains on the run, according to deputies.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the female homeowner who fired back at the home invasion crew is at Orlando Regional Medical Center where she is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Multiple shots were fired inside the woman’s residence, and investigators also think at least one person arrived at the scene of the incident before law enforcement officers and fired additional rounds.

Police did not identify anyone involved in the incident.

Florida has among the strongest protections in the country for armed homeowners to defend their residence against intrusion and attack. Officially called The Protection of Persons/Use of Force Bill, but more widely known as the “Stand Your Ground” Law, states that:

“Authorizes person to use force, including deadly force, against intruder or attacker in dwelling, residence, or vehicle under specified circumstances; provides that person is justified in using deadly force under certain circumstances; provides immunity from criminal prosecution or civil action for using deadly force; defines term “criminal prosecution.”

The law has been in effect since 2005, and has brought a number of self-defense cases to national prominence.

Currently, 31 states have a “Castle Doctrine” law on the books, which requires no attempt to retreat from an unlawful entry into the home before using deadly force. Florida has a “Stand Your Ground” law, which means that a person does not have the legal duty to attempt retreat in any context (including the home) before using deadly force.

Local cops are so expensive. Uniform cop inYonkers with OT made $300K…..local uniform cop regular pay $150K….Chief of Police $200K………..out of control salaries huge tax burden, when in fact they come after the fact to take reports. We don’t need them. 9 out of 10 time they work for POLITICIANS collecting revenue for piddly laws. What we need is the 2nd Amendment conceal and carry, which is a 50/50% level playing field. Only requirement: MUST go to proficieny class before owning. MUST be born US citizen or a Natutralized for 20!!! years. (shows roots and committment to country.) We don’t need police forces. We need the State national guard for large incidents and just county sheriffs. Ffity million local PD is useless waste of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Anybody that takes other peoples belongings, takes the chance of being confronted and has intentions of dispatching with bodily harm needs to be six feet under. That life is a wasted life anyway. Shoot to kill.

Nice shooting maam. I might recommend a semi automatic 12 gauge with number 4 buck shot. Short barrel. You might have gotten a few more heads for the mantel. As the body parts start to fly, try to keep them off the antiques. Clean up is a bit of a pain but oxy clean will probably get that out. The chunks you can vacuum up, or if you have a dog then you wont have to worry about the vacuum. But all in all, nice shooting.

I agree, no one should be allowed to invade your space by force. I don’t need a stand your ground law to do what is right, but would be a nice touch.

When seconds count , the police are minutes away, police do not prevent crime, they investigate it and report it…, only armed citizens prevent crime…, PERIOD!!!!!!!!

I lived in Florida for nine years, and with its transient population, this law is necessary. I think the law should apply in every state, but the progs don’t want us to be able to defend ourselves against THEM.
