Nigel Robinson from Hull in the United Kingdom hasn’t seen his daughter alone for the last four months. His access to her was restricted after accidentally downloading child pornography, which he then reported to the the authorities, according to the BBC.
BBC reports that Robinson, 43, hasn’t been charged with anything nor has he been arrested for the pornography that was found on his laptop after he was trying to download music. After what he claims was an accidental download, Robinson said that he decided to report the incident, which led to social services coming to his home and requesting that he not have “unsupervised access with his own or other children.”
Here’s what Robinson had to say about his restricted access to his own daughter:
“It makes you feel as though you shouldn’t have reported it in the first place.”
He added it would have been “a lot easier” to just throw the machine in the bin.
Mr Robinson said the restrictions on seeing his daughter had come to a head after his wife had returned to work.
When his wife works late, as regularly happens, Mr Robinson’s daughter goes to his mother-in-law’s home.
He goes round to see his daughter and them comes home on his own.
He said the experience was “very stressful for the family”.
Robinson’s laptop was confiscated and is undergoing investigation.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 12:14pmLike with any criminal activity that carries a great deal of social stigma such as Child Porn, it certainly wouldn’t be a first time that CPS or police investigators made an irational rush to judgement.
It doesn’t make sense to me what he would stand to gain by reporting it to the police if he were indeed a practicing pedophile.
It is human nature to automatically assume the worst about someone.
Report Post »It is also human nature, if you are a liberal. to trade all of your common sense for equal parts of zeal and enthusiasm.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 11:24amI am afraid that I am going to have to call B.S. on this guy.
“Robinson’s laptop was confiscated and is undergoing investigation.” – this might be why he’s on supervised visits. How do you “accidentally” download porn let along child porn? The only way that could happen is virus related and that is easy enough to confirm. The only other way is if it was “planted” on his computer by a hacker. But that is not what he said happened here. “HE” downloaded it. Whether or not his claim that it was an accident is valid or not, it sure raises a red flag and the “STATE” opted to act in the best interest of the children. Unlike having a father arrested and stripped searched over a crayon picture of a Nerf Toy Gun, actually having child porn is a crime.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 9:40amas i am skeptical also the likely scenario was that he was downloading porn, not music, and downloaded the child stuff by accident. another scenario would be that he downloaded it not quite sure if it crossed the line, felt horrible or scared when he realized it did, and then reported it.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 9:45amNot only can files be inadverdely downloaded, they can be hidden. There are several programs on the market for hiding files.Making them seem to be one thing, when they are in fact another. There are literally hundreds of legitimate reasons to use a program like this. You can hide work files that may contain someone elses personal information, your own financial information, certain sensitive informtion.Last ,but not least, it keeps busybodies from easily hacking your life.Lets not forget that information on a computer including your own can be used to commit brick and mortar crimes.
Report Post »That being said.I think he is innocent. Why in gods name if you had intentionally downloaded child porn would you run to the cops?Unless you were insane ,you wouldn’t.Common sense should tell all of you that fact.
My question is this .Did the cops use it to backtrack the source? If not, someone should start proceedings against them.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 11:15amIt’s MUCH easier than you think.
This does remind me of an incident that happened to me roughly 12-years ago. I received a spam e-mail that was FULL of CP images. I deleted it, but when I got another one a couple of weeks later, I was angry and looked up how I could report this to law enforcement. One one of the Fed websites, there were instructions for reporting CP, which included forwarding the offending e-mail. I did that. I was ASTONISHED that a few days after I did this, I was suddenly slammed with CP spam, and my snail mail box was suddenly filled with various, questionable porn mailings. *_* I reported this, but it seemed like every time I updated the report, the number of CP spam from e-mail and s-mail increased.
I talked to a lawyer, who suggested that the Feds were likely targeting me to see if I’d purchase CP, even though I’d reported this to them to get them to stop it. He recommended I get a new e-mail address, then buy a shredder and just shred the porn mail rather than just throw it out. He then said that if I ever received CP e-mail in the future, I should just delete it unreported and move on. I never did, thankfully, but this event caused me to start rethinking my ideas on trusting the Government.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 9:10amI have to go along with several other posters. With all the resources at the govts. disposal, why pick on somebody that made a mistake downloading something like that. With the technology nowdays, you mean that a govt. office, couldn’t track down where this crap is coming from, and send out a virus to shut down website’s like this. Computer hackers have wormed their way into military systems, nuclear power plants and the like. They could shut down this crap with in a month if they really wanted to. I know there has been several times I looked stuff up on the internet, and you can get this kind of crap right next to a legitamet web site, and even try and disguise it as something innocent.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 8:44amWith all the controls over the web, by the people who own the servers, to the government. I think most of all kiddy porn on the net is put out by our government. You know you can buy a memory stick that tells who ever uses it if porn has been downloaded on the computer. So that means all porn is tagged, so to all you people who think you are getting by with something, you are not. Big Brother see everything you do on the net. Play safe.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 8:44amOf course you don’t dare report child pornography to the cops, but only if you are male. In fact, the cops probably put the “child pornography” on his computer and then busted him just to fill a quota. If a female found and reported “child pornography” on her computer, the story would be how she was “abused” by some male who doesn’t even own a computer. The cops and courts “Protect and serve… any female who lies to the cops. The Duke Lacrosse case is a shinning example of this knee-jerk reaction by the cops and courts. ‘Ever notice that on TV only males are criminals and all victims are always female? This is rightly called “Programming” and serves to foster the anti-male standard.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 7:09amThis is a tough one to say the least. I suppose if the source of the DL‘d can be found and once determined that it’s common practice for this person to attach child porn to assumed music files then great, this man IS exonerated.
However, it is certainly a “He said – she said” situation. Right now I have doubts of his honesty but I’m sure the truth will come out. It always comes to the surface.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 7:17amIf you don’t know the difference between certain file types, and/or are using a medium that is peer-to-peer, it’s actually very easy to download something that is not what you expected. I’d guess that at worst case scenario, he was probably breaking a copyright law or two downloading free music from a file sharing site, but that’s about it.
If you want the know the truth, it would be child’s play (no pun intended) for me to alter a well known site to send you something far different than what you intended to download. How much do you “really” know about the things YOU download, or are you just blindly trusting the source?

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 8:52amEasy, I have been looking up stuff and have seen what looks to be a good site and holy cow, what came up was beyond shocking! Those evil folks are very clever at what they name some of their sites, I never thought to take it to the police, I just turned it off and got rid of it, or at least I hope I did. Aword to the wise, watch out for things with floral names.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 9:49am@Jenny Lind and Fippy: Exactly. When a file is compressed you don’t know what it is until you download it and open it up, regardless of what it’s named or where you download it from. Go try to download something, even something legit from sites like cnet or downloads.com and you’ll see three or four different images that all look like download buttons, but most are actually banner ads that take you to some other site, which may or may not be legit. Believe me, after 15 years in the IT field, and being the go-to “Computer Guy” for my friends and family, I’ve seen it all. I guess it all depends on how tech-savvy the person is. If child porn were found on a computer belonging to someone with as much experience as I have, I’d be much more suspicious than if it were found on a computer belonging to someone who barely knows how to turn their computer on and get online. Considering how many issues I deal with on a daily basis, I’d say the vast majority of the population falls into the latter category.

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 4:56amI feel like we’re not hearing the full story. Something prompted this man to go to the authorities about the child porn. Nearly everyone else in this world would have downloaded the file, thinking it was music, opened it and thought, “Blimey!” and instantly deleted the file and then try to use sandpaper on their eyes to get rid of the imagery. I would have been making sure it got deleted and overwriitten to make sure no one in my household saw it.
So, why the authorities? Why did he report on himself? Clearly if he thought he was downloading music, he was not at a real up and up site, you know? He was illegally downloading music, or at least thought he was. I imagine he’s done this many times in the past for he knew which slimy web sites to use. Instead he got child porn. Was the file purposely mislabeled?

Posted on March 9, 2012 at 7:25amits not so easy. i had a neighbor arrested for child porn when i lived in an appartment. i talked with the cops after they raided his house.
they told me that he had DLed it months earler and had deleted it. they found him through the fact that he DLed it. plus if you dont have a proffesional file scrubber, you have to reformat your harddrive (i think) to compleatly remove files. even then fragments of things can still be pulled up.
according to whats in the story, this man did the smart thing then the government freaked on him.

Why? They can find you, but they can’t find the owners of that porn website. They can’t seem to shut down illegal websites, but they sure can find you.
