An Aurora, Colo., man was awoken at 3 a.m. by a family member calling from New York to tell him his ex-wife had been shot. It was unknown at the time where his 6-year-old child was. Both were at the tragic shooting at the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Colorado. Then he learned of the tragic news.
(Related: See other stories on The Blaze relating to the ‘Dark Knight’ shooting)
“After three hours of sitting at the children’s hospital in Aurora, I found out my child was dead,” the unnamed man said to KDVR in an interview. “After being thrown in circles and circles and telling me you’ll be able to see her in just a moment, I found out my child is dead.”
After this comment, the man who was facing away from the camera goes silent, shaking his head. Watch the interview:
KDVR reports that the man became enraged at one point and had to be detained by police. His daughter was one of 12 killed in the shootings that occurred around 12:30 a.m. Reports indicate at least 59 were been injured in the scene thus far.
The man has not been admitted to the Aurora Medical Center to see his ex-wife allegedly because of a comment he had made.
“I need to make sure that she’s at least okay. I’ve lost the rest of my family,” he said.
When told the suspected gunman, 24-year-old James Holmes, was still alive, this man said, “Hopefully some people at least have some common courtesy and take care of somebody who has the willpower to murder an innocent child and other innocent people,” he said. “Hopefully the law enforcement has some kind of courtesy and some kind of basic justice.”
Fox News Insider posted a longer version of the heart-breaking interview. Watch it here:

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 5:35pmThat is mild to what I would have done and said had I been given the run around about my child. These people are the victims of those who make gathering places such as these, gun free zones. In my State, chances are that 1 in 20 would have likely been armed and this would have ended badly for this turd.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 5:44pmAnd who would the 1 in 20 have shot at in a dark packed theater full of smoke and panicking people? I support gun ownership and conceal carry. However, I don’t think it would make a difference in this case. This guy was firing for effect and didn’t have to aim.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 5:59pmHe was also wearing a bullet proof vest and a gas mask. He’d already tossed some kind of smoke grenade, so a marksman would have had to try for a head shot or maybe a leg shot. A leg shot probably wouldn’t have disabled him. Unless they could have gotten the back of the head, the gas mask could have protected him. Either way, any shot that would have been taken would have had to be lethal and 100% accurate. I’m not that good of a marksman. But guess who will be going to the range alot more now.

Uh, why shouldn’t a 6 year old be up at midnight, especially during the summer time when they don’t have to get up for school? I would be far more concerned about a 6 year old watching a PG-13 movie, personally.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 7:59pmSix year old children get excited about super-heroes like Batman. Taking this young child to the opening show is not really the issue. It is the fact that the love of the people grow cold. I wish they had waited and given this child his nightly rest, instead of this monster giving him his RIP.
Someday God will judge the living and the dead and those who don’t know Christ and disbelieve in Jesus will get a full hearing of why their turning up their noses at salvation is such a big deal.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 8:59pmI agree with you Koch. Decent parents would not drag a 6 year old out to a PG-13(barely) rated movie especially on of the new Batman movies. I have seen them and they are very violent and disturbing. This had nothing to do with a 6 year old being excited about a super hero. And regardless of a childs excitement children are not capable of making the best decisions that why they need parents to tell them no and offer guidence. This idiot mother simply wanted to fulfill here own need to be one of the first to see this movie probably with other idiot frinds of hers.
There is another story on yahoo right now about a couple who took their 4 month old baby and 4 year old to this theater also. We will get the details later I am sure about the shooter but it can probably be tied back to irresponsible parenting that probably started with small things like dragging an infant to a midnight movie.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 10:13pmFrom the reviews I’ve read on the psychotic violence in this movie, no 6 year old child should be seeing it. If you love seeing blood and sadism as an adult, I guess that’s between you and your god, but no responsible parent would allow a 6 year old child to view such trash. What the hell ever happened to our imaginations? Have we totally lost them? I was quite happy when John Wayne shot someone and they fell over dead, or clutched their heart and fell off their horse. I don’t need to see blood, brains and flesh flying everywhere as a bullet tears into someone. Sheesh!

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 1:05amWhy are you hating (note the poor grammar is intentional) someone because their SIN is different than your SIN? Hmmm, huh, why?
First off, how dare anyone say a parent is bad because they keep their child up past midnight. My husband has always worked the 2nd or 3rd shifts. If I didn’t keep my babies up past midnight, they would never see him, nor would he see them. So butt out!
The only time this was no longer feasible was when they started school, but during the summer they would almost always stay up past midnight. But, it really isn’t any of your business. This woman did not ask you for your parental guidance. She is in a hospital fighting for her life! And, at some point they are going to have to tell her about her 6-year old. You do not know this family’s situation and should not pass judgment as if your life has been an impeccable display of perfection.

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 9:07amMy first thought was why was this child at a theatre at midnight? I see they’re divorced, maybe it’s a case of they each spoil the child when they have her. As a former police dispatcher, a lot more crime happens at night than in the day time. I would never allow any “child” under the age of 18, even accompanied by an adult, out after midnight.

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 9:23amColorado DOES Issue concealed weapons licenses. My wife and I each have one. Colorado is also Open Carry in most of the state. Even so most of us don’t carry our guns everywhere. I‘m sure that’s true in “your” state, wherever that may be. I am sorry but I do not believe a 6 year old or the infant should be at a midnight movie, especially a violent movie. The funny thing is, the people who think there is nothing wrong with it are the same people who wonder why there is so much violence. 6 Year olds have no business going to this movie no matter what time the showing is.

The Democrat Party is a party of Death, a party of the Joker. They are responsible for the deaths of these people and the deaths of so many others who would be living today if Democrats did not outlaw our use of guns to protect our children and other loved ones. A 71 year old man last week saved the lives of many people in an Internet restaurant when he used his legally owned gun and shot two armed robbers.

Remember one very important thing,it takes a lot to get a carry permit and nothing for some jerk to just shoot a gun into a crowd. I feel for all who lost loved ones.

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 10:54amI certainly feel for this man’s loss. Him being refused by the hospital to see his ex or his daughter is poorly worded and leaves ambiguous as to which he was referring to since he may still have considered his ex to be a part of his family. He should not have been turned away based on his remark. I have heard many more people make stronger, justified remarks concerning Hassan and the demented pervert that was beaten to death out of righteous anger when found molesting the Texas man’s daughter. A six year old little girl… I guess it really is true that in the middle of the Rockies, Colorado has been overwhelmed and made impotent from PC just as Laramie, WY, after certain events took place to draw extreme left wing nut jobs out from the coasts and into the heartland to try and do their attempts at marxist missionary conversions.
Sir, I grieve for you and your family and though I cannot possibly imagine the enormity of such a horrific tragedy executed against those who you feel the basic male (and real motherly female) human need to protect your family against all threats conceivable, please know that among so many others, our prayers are with you for the Comforter to stand at your side in this time of need.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 7:31pmThat is not true that people with schizophrenia lose all empathy for others. Posted on July 20, 2012 at 11:17pmYou are both right and wrong. No offense to anyone here, schizophrenia is an extremely complicated disability. It varies with each person due to variations in each individual’s character. One of the most important variables, that affects the actions and thoughts of a individual with schizophrenia is other mental health issues also affecting the individual. From my experience, emotions such as empathy, etc. is definitely present in these individuals. At times the individual may lose the ability to distinguish reality; in these moments people with schizophrenia, as with individuals with other mental disabilities have a much more difficult time thinking beyond trying to discriminate what is reality and what they need to comfort or protect them self. Other factors that have profound effects on people with schizophrenia include: major life changes, appropriate use of medication, and misuse of legal and/or illegal drugs. Schizophrenia… maybe, maybe not. God bless all affected by this event!

I’m bored by the whole story. Bored.
It’s the same tune every single time. Well, to be fair, we rarely hear about it when it goes like it SHOULD have last night.
Every time, “oh it’s so sad”, “I feel bad for the families”, blah blah blah. I swear it’s the same quotes every time.
Then the News people start the Gun Control nonsense.
Then we hear more details about this loser than anyone would ever want to know. I do not care what this POS had for breakfast, OK? I don’t give a damn what his *name* is.
Both political sides start pointing fingers like a pair of 8 year olds. Beyond predictable.
Bored.
Here’s the hard cold truth;
– The World Is A Dangerous Place.
– Go Armed Or Be Killed.
– YOU ARE NOT SAFE.
Who got all those people killed? They did. Yup, I said it. They did.
Did they do anything to deserve being slaughtered? No (and my prayers *are* with these people. But.) They also did nothing to stop it.
Smoke cigs for 30 years, die.
Drive a 100 MPH every day, die.
Eat and drink until you’re 300 pounds, die.
Go unarmed, die.
It’s just a question of time and odds.
A hundred years ago two things would have stopped this guy
– A Moral Society. (And if that failed…)
– An Armed Society.
Quit pretending anyone is ever “safe” and settle for prepared. Then all these stories will turn out like the ones we never hear about; one dead perp, one reluctant hero

Witness the ‘no guns allowed in Chicago’ law stupidity…much like New York City and Washington D.C., a little 6 yr. gold girl selling lemonade in Chicago was shot and killed by a stray bullet. The cliche “when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns” not only rings true but is a fact. This evil human being knew exactly what he was doing and he knew how vulnerable the vitims were. The sick part of this he will hire a legal gun who will plead temporary insanity due to his economic state or whatever ‘state’ mental or otherwise he can claim as an excuse for this horrific crime. Justice will not be served with this murderer as it was with Timothy McVey. Colorado hasn’t had an execution in 35 years. Research Oklahoma….quite a different story.

We live in a society where we’re trying to stamp out death, and everyone‘s purposely shredding the memo that that’s not possible. Accidents happen. Tragedies happen. People die. Young, old, and in between. They die from doing stupid things, and they die while doing something as normal as going to a movie. It’s paradoxical for a society to proclaim they respect human life and then turn around a punish criminals in the way you describe.
Publicizing executions dulls the public to the concept of murder, arguably thereby creating a more violent culture.
Someone who is mentally deranged acts without the concept of repercussion. It doesn’t matter how harsh you make those repercussions – to their perspective they wont get caught and the penalties don’t apply.
Hopefully that gets you started. Welcome to Civilized America and the Western World!

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 8:51pm@Chuck.. I am not a douche.. I‘m highly upset about this and I feel horrible for this guy and I’m going to stay that way.. I just am not going to pretend praying is going to do anything other than self soothe. People don’t understand that when they say they are “praying” for them it is actually selfish and “self soothing” You prey for this guy and get up and it all feels better.. Fine pray! why tell us you’re doing it?! You want a cookie?! good for you! Fine my prayers are with him too! “please god, since you failed to protect this man from severe emotional pain and loss that left him in ruins, I pray that you can now intervene to help him feel good about his life someday” Oh what’s that? you can intervene?

This does not mean that it is the Dads fault that this nut job did what he did, even though chances are he will feel it is for the rest of his life. Nevertheless; my prayers go out to the Father and the family of this girl. I pray that God will strengthen him and comfort him through his tragic loss.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 5:11pmDon’t judge…it’s summer…if this hadn‘t happened you wouldn’t be asking that. They would be out having fun with their parent, seeing a blockbuster movie after midnight…how cool is that to a 6-year-old? I’ll tell ya…COOL!!!

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 5:11pmHumor, you are the idiot. Wether school was out or not I would not drag my 6 year old daughter out to stand in line hours for a movie she shouldn’t be watching in the first place. I don’t blame either of the parents for what happened, but maybe if there lives didn’t revolve around things like being one of the first in line to see a movie maybe both of them will still be alive.
I know this will probably piss several of you off since most people today could not imagine a life without thier Ipods, Ipads, Youtube, or my personal favorite addiction of choice FACEBOOK!. The idea of waiting till the crowds thin out and maybe not dragging your 6 year old to a PG-13 rated movie(barely) will always seem more abnormal and wierd than needing constant entertainment.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 5:32pmTruly depressing and sad for all the people in Aurora. If I had a 6 yr old however, I don’t think I would want to be out at midnight for a movie and getting home at 2 or 3 in the morning. Not for any movie. It can wait for the daylight hours when risk for anything happening is just as high, but I got a better eye shot at everyone coming and going even standing in line or watching the parking lot as we waited. This coward, shooter waited for the darkness outside and had the dark theater inside to aid his psychotic actions. Sometimes I think it is the adults who want to see these films more than the kids do and drag the kids to them anyway. I see it all the time when a big movies opens or some stupid video game is being released on the news. The kids are already asleep waiting with their parents. Little ones should be home in their beds sleeping at that hour. The Dad of the 6 yr old has a right to question, to be angry, and to have justice done for all involved, but it is Colorado, so it is very much a tossup. He will probably not get the death penalty.

They want to destroy everything in America. They want to instill fear and wreak havoc.
They want the collapse of the American culture, businesses, family values, religion, and morals.

These were the isolated actions of a sick, evil individual. Liberals will simply use it as fodder in their war against the Second Amendment. James E. Holmes is 24 year old he is from San Diego CA. The suspected Colorado movie mass murderer was a loner and graduate school dropout who dyed his dark hair red in homage to Batman’s arch-nemesis the Joker. Demented gunman James Holmes declared “he was the Joker, enemy of Batman” after his arrest for the killing spree during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Returns,” said NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
Shooter James Holmes Targets Cops Who Respond to His Aurora Apartment With Bombs. The apartment of the man suspected in the mass shooting at a Denver-area screening of the latest Batman movie is “booby-trapped” with an array of sophisticated material, the local police chief said Friday. Speaking at the scene where police were working to gain access to the apartment, Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates said: “His apartment is booby-trapped. We are trying to determine how to disarm the flammable or explosive material. We could be here for hours or days. The pictures are fairly disturbing. It looks very sophisticated, how it’s booby-trapped. It could be a very long wait.”

Apparently, the movie itself referenced OWS prominently as the bad guys. Sort of the flip side of Micheal Moore movies. Which caused no mayhem from the Tea Party.

UPDATE Occupy Black Bloc Member James E. Holmes Shoots Up Aurora Co Movie Theater Killing 12 And Wounding 50.
Friday, July 20, 2012
“The Dark Knight Rises,” the third and final installment in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, pushes the ideological envelope even further than before. It’s impossible not to feel Nolan’s disgust at Occupy Wall Street a movement the film paints as both incoherent and violent courtesy of a class warfare villain armed with nuclear weaponry.
A lone gunman dressed in riot gear and wearing a gas mask burst into a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., at a midnight showing of the Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” and opened fire, killing at least 12 people and injuring at least 50.
The suspect, James Holmes, 24, of Aurora, was caught by police in the parking lot of the Century 16 Movie Theaters, nine miles outside Denver, after police began receiving dozens of 911 calls at 12:39 a.m. MT. Police said the man appeared to have acted alone.
Witnesses in the movie theater said Holmes crashed into the auditorium through an emergency exit about 30 minutes into the film, set off a smoke bomb, and began shooting. Holmes stalked the aisles of the theater, shooting at random, as panicked movie-watchers in the packed auditorium tried to escape, witnesses said.
