Father Slapped With Two Traffic Tickets After Saving Son From Jumping 35-Feet Into a River

Frank Roder’s son jumped out of the back of the family Jeep Cherokee before his father had officially put it in park near a river embankment where the 5-year-old was taken to feed ducks.
Going into parental autodrive, according to Fox News, Roder himself jumped out of the vehicle after Aidan to stop him from falling down the 35-foot drop into the river in Winfield Park, New Jersey. Although he was able to save his son, his 2006 Jeep was not so fortunate:
That’s when Aidan, eyes as big as saucers, looked behind Roder and said, “Um, Daddy …”
Roder turned in time to see the Jeep nosedive down the embankment and land in the muddy water.

From there, Fox reports that Roder, albeit stunned, was just grateful to have caught his son. He called the authorities and waited a couple hours before a crane pulled his SUV out of the water. Amazingly, it started. Two things for Roder to be happy about.
That’s when an officer from the Union County police presented Roder with some unhappy news: he would be getting two traffic tickets. Although each are only $50 and $60 respectively, Roder told Fox News he was surprised he received them just based on principal of the situation. But the officer told him he still should have put the car in park. When Roder countered with “where would I be” if his son had gone over the edge in the few seconds it would have taken to slam it into park, the officer said “jail, for child endangerment.”
Fox News reports Roder saying that he doesn’t care really if he has to pay the ticket but that in a situation “that happens so fast, I could give a rat’s a– about the car.”

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 11:11amRegrettably this wonderful father, who had everything well in hand, made the mistake of acting upon that once-true-belief that when trouble happens call the “authorities.” Those days, friends, are pretty much gone. These same automatons, the kind of men who were in New Orleans, following Katrina and illegally searched homes and confiscated firearms from law abiding Citizens will, if so ordered, kick in your front and back doors simply because they have been told to do so. Yes, law enforcement today may still follow the old creed of “To Protect & Serve,” but that only applies to their jobs, their families, their medical benefits, their pension plans, their retirements, their sense of betterment and their commonly held belief that they are your “controllers;” if you’re not cop, you’re little people. So if the dung ever does hit the fan, you had better live quietly, head down, by your own wits and not count on them doing the right thing . . . something simple like upholding the Constitution of the United States of America.

BTW, is it really the law in New Jersey that when you park your car you must put the transmission in PARK? What if you wanted to leave it in NEUTRAL with the handbrake on? Suppose you drive a stick, and want to leave the transmission in 1st with the break on? Are all New Jersey cops going around checking parked cars to make sure the transmission is in PARK? How many tickets for that do they write a year? Talk about a “Nanny State,” looks like the soccer moms have really taken over.

Perhaps, if the child is so difficult to control, the father should have the manual dexterity to engage the child safety locks on the rear doors….
This is obviously a tall tale told by the father to the police.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 4:02pm“Protect and Serve” is no where in the police job description. It is just a happy motto they place on their patrol vehicles…
To Protect and Serve denotes taking preemptive action against law breaking. However, the police cannot do that. I.E.: You cannot arrest someone for murder until that have acctually killed someone..
Ask any high ranking officer about the motto “To Protect and Serve” and I am sure you will hear the many chuckles that I have heard when doing the same thing… A direct quote from my State Sherrif, “To Protect civilians and Prevent crime IS NOT the job of the police, That is the job of the citizen. The police’s only job is to hunt down and punish those who have commited a crime.”
Hope you all feel safer out there… Remember, ALWAYS respect the police, NEVER trust them….

As an overwhelming rule they usually are. But your conjured tale of lies, blame and deception is not contained in this story as it is written. Either you‘re psychic or you’re viewing life a little jaundiced of late?
What I see is a brain dead cop who has had his own heart and wisdom replaced by machine logic and cares about nothing but himself and the merciless device he works for. Welcome to the advancing de-humanization and de-sensitizing of society. One day we will all pay a big price for this and the decay we’ve all allowed society to fall into and that day seems to be approaching quickly. I almost look forward to it. That stupid cop! What an idiot! It is the right of every parent to be terminally stupid about their kids with out re-percussions! They can let them die if they want!
And the fact that anyone along the bank could have die because a car fell on them cause a kid was not strapped in has nothing to do with it

And evidently you don’t have kids, or if you do, you probably keep them handcuffed to the seat judging by your testosterone laced rant. But most normal kids by nature are unpredictable, and most of them with opposable thumbs (you & yours may or may not be familiar with this trait) know how to undo a seat belt. Call it what it is, local extortionists wanting to make an extra $110 because they were bothered by having to do their job.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 12:54pmCommunist – LOL. I am actually very libertarian when it comes to adults. I do not care what you do with your life (just don’t ask me to pick up the tab for your stupidity). But when it comes to the helpless (disabled, elderly, children) I do believe we need laws to protect them from abuse and neglect. I am sick and tired of turning on the news and reading about dead babies because an adult cannot be bothered to take basic safety precautions. Just recently two toddlers were killed because they were loose in the backseat of the car. The parents survived because ironically they were wearing seat belts, but they set the children in their carseats and just couldn’t be bothered to take 2 minutes to fasten the harness. It is also a pet pieve of mine that parents do not raise their children with any kind of disipline anymore. I do have older, obedient, children. I was making the point that even my 2 year old knows to stop when mom says stop. I do not have to chase my children in stores or from running into the street. Mom or Dad says something you do it, period. I have seen more than one dangerous situation get worse because small children have no respect for what their parents say. This is the point I was trying to make. It is kind of a soap box for me right now because I am just fed up with parents who can’t be bothered to raise their children and then enflict them on society when they turn 18 or sooner.

First let me say to all those who are ranting about the kid not being in a safety seat arent thinking about the kids that are smart enough to know how to get out of them. I have seen 3 year olds get out of safety seats. Now to the credit of mtcountrygrl I will say this. One word from me and my kid would have stopped moving so fast it would have made your head spin. He!! even my cat stops when I raise my voice. The fact that this father didnt have his sone trained in this way is sad. As the father obviously now knows it is NECESSARY to have control over your child with just one word to protect them from themselves.
While I agree the officer didnt have to give the tickets the state could have actually sent the bill for the crane to him. I dont agree with the tickets but honestly I would have agreed with the bill for the crane to remove his car. Call it scemantics but the tax payers have to pick up the bill for the crane. The tax payers shouldnt be penalized for a fathers lack of control of his child but dont EVER trust those child safety seats to keep a kid in. If a 5 year old kid can play Chopin they can get out of a child safety seat.

Report Post »Thank you! Another good parent, gives me hope. I get so sick of the “well you just can’t control your kids” comments. My 4 year old can get in and out of her safety seat, however, she recently lost the privilege of doing so because she disobeyed my instructions about removing her belt when the vehicle is not stopped and turned off. She simply is not allowed to buckle or unbuckle herself anymore because she was not morally mature enough to follow the rules. I use this principle on everything, if my child is physically capable of doing something does not mean they are morally capable of doing it. I also use the “STOP” command in a certain tone of voice only for emergencies and my kids know that this means business. I have never had them disobey this command. People need to start parenting again.

My family has a close friend that was a cop for over 30 years after putting in 20 years in the Army Rangers. He was the only person I have every meet that legally had a “license to kill” signed by multiple US Presidents for his work on the Olympics anti-terrorism squad in the 1980′s and national Organized Crime Bureau.
Cops are just like every other job…mostly good guys with a few idiots and jerks thrown in…
Maybe your attitude towards them is why they always have a jerky attitude back to you…?? Just wondering…we get what we give after all….

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 9:12amBarney Fife the Bureacrat strikes again.
Have you noticed that the number of Barney‘s in our nation’s police forces have been growing? Good people with critical thinking skills, and common sense seem to be shying away from law enforcement.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 9:36amHow could he have undone the belt, opened the door and got out of the auto without Daddy stopping him? Was he wearing a seat belt? Setting in the front seat next to dad? A few questions need to be asked and answers given before we start praising or damning all concerned.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 10:12amThere are 2 types of folks living in America today. There are those that benefit from a police state and govt largess and then there are the rest of us pions. Only somebody that is part of that apparatus would cheerlead for them like VRW.
