An off-duty FBI agent drowned Thursday in Puerto Rico trying to save a swimmer, the agency announced Friday.

FBI Special Agent Daniel Knapp was approached by friends of a struggling swimmer and quickly swam out to assist, the FBI said in a statement. He reached the 18-year-old swimmer and was helping him, but was overcome by the waves.

A police boat rescued the swimmer and pulled him to safety.

“Special Agent Knapp exemplified each of the ideals of the FBI, as well as possessing those traits which define a genuine wonderful person,” said Joseph Campbell, the head of the FBI’s Puerto Rico Field Office. “He died a hero, saving another life.”

Knapp was 43 years old and had been in the FBI for six years, according to the agency. He was based in San Juan and received both the 2011 FBI Director’s Award for Outstanding Criminal Investigation and the 2011 Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement.

This indeed sounds like a set up. Very typical of elimination by thuggery. Too bad he didn’t smell a trap and not be so eager to jump in…but then he did the right thing and now is in a far better place with the Lord. His murderers will stand in judgment before God and very soon. I just feel for his family and of course, hate the evil that did this.

It is unfortunate that Agent Knapp‘s boss Eric the Red Holder doesn’t have his character and decency. Rest in peace Agent Knapp.

Our Family‘s prayers are going out to Agent Dan Knapp’s family, friends and co-workers.

From the reports he’s one all who would seek the mantle of “public servant” should emulate.

    Service before self.

This is the “Jack Armstrong”-type of guy that I hold up to my nephews as what they should aspire to. God bless this true, American patriot. May his family find some comfort in the rightful PRIDE they must feel for such an outstanding relative……

Another sad day in the law enforcement community as we mourn the death of yet another one of our brothers in blue. May God Bless Dan’s family, law enforcement family and many friends as they sadly deal with their tragic loss. Rest in Peace my brother LEO. Rejoice in Heaven, my friend, for your brothers and sisters will continue to fight the good fight here on Earth until it is our time and we are reunited with you in God’s Kingdom. 10-7 End of Watch 12/30/2011. Something is rotten in the DOJ!! This reeks of malice. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you will but doesn’t this all seem a bit too staged? A decorated FBI agent is over in PR working the drug runners & suddenly he is “summoned” for help by friends of a drowning man? Why didn’t the friends save him themselves? Then the FBI agent is “overcome by waves” but the poor “swimmer” who is drowning is not overcome by the same waves and he is able to be pulled to safety by a PR police boat that just happens to be on the scene at that exact moment?! I don’t think so! I’d guess that the swimmer or someone underwater in scuba gear drowned Knapp. I think Knapp was sniffing around the trees of some of the DOJ (Holder…) drug dealing pals & they had Knapp eliminated. RIP to a true American, everyone better start watching their own back.
