FBI: St. Johns Dean Turned Students Into Servants

Cecilia Chang, the former St. John’s University (New York) dean who was charged earlier this month with embezzling over $1 million in donations from the college, is facing a new set of charges from the FBI: using scholarship students as servants.

Chang allegedly forced students to do her laundry, clean her house, cook, chauffeur her son around, and deliver money to her while on gambling trips, the New York Post reports.

“Chang threatened the students and placed them in fear that if they refused to perform these personal services they would lose their scholarships and be unable to attend St. John’s,” FBI Special Agent Kenneth Hosey wrote in the arrest warrant.

The Post gives more details:

Chang had four students working seven days a week as her personal valets, one was forced to driver her son to the airport at 3 a.m. Others shoveled snow, took out the garbage and shuttled her to her hair salon, according to court papers.

“[Chang] let me be the housekeeper for her house and give me scholarship,” one scholarship student wrote to the college. “We have three housekeeper before, and she ask us work 122 days per year per person.”

In September, Chang was indicted for running up $50,000 personal charges monthly and passing them on to the university using phony expense statements.

In fact, the FBI alleges that one student was told to doctor Chang’s credit card statements for personal expenses so that she could submit them for reimbursement.

Oh, by the way, my point was. If you are a socialist/commie you should not complain about working for the the government. The Dean is a government worker, employeed by a possible maybe socialist group like some teachers union that backs obama.

Chang sounds like chinese. China sounds like communist to me. Communist sounds like worker slaves (the working party). So how can students at a liberal cathelic college complain about slavery where maybe some have a socialist/communist views of the world. I believe it has been pointed out on National Geo that the catholic church supported the Nazi regeime. Socialist/commies invites all people to work for the government. Example: obama wants bigger government so everyone can work for him and socialist. What people are not aware of is, if you work for the government YOU do not have the same rights as an American Citizen. If you don’t believe me, ask any veteran.

I say it taught those students a good lesson. If you are not incharge things suck and that even free things may cost you in the long run, the free being the scholarships. As far as steeling the money have her hung or send her to Iraq and have her stoned to death by the taliban.

What is the difference between what she is alleged to have done and exactly what the Progressives
are doing to all of us. Anyone who is asking why the students did not stand up to her and report her crimes, are probably watching what is happening to the whole country and choosing to bury their heads in the sand, with the attitude this could never happen to me, it always happens to someone else. I have news for those people, it is happening to them now, and it is only going to get worse, unless they wake up !

Americans are too complacent and trusting with the education system. We believed the Department of Education would do the job as defined at its inception of improving and overseeing our schools – we were wrong. Students have been trained to cater to the teachers to get a good grade and not to question authority. Our children are taught to be mediocre, sit still, keep quiet, do as they are told, tow the line, and get good grades by showing up. We need to get rid of the DOE and parents and community members need to be more involved in all levels of education. Teachers unions must be replaced by a merit based system, that only rewards and continues to employ the good teachers.

Additionally, we have been brainwashed to believe that our children MUST attend a 4 year college program, not only for their success, but to show we are successful as parents. That mentality forced these colleges into a position where they had to hire masses of unqualified educators and administrators, many of which receive tenure after failing to properly educate their students, in order to meet the demands of bursting student enrollment. Where were the controls over this particular administration? Where were the other deans, school board members, parents, alumni, or even a certified accountant? Hopefully, the tuition paying parents at this university will be involved at every level from this point forward.

      Amen to you, Missmarie.

Americans do seem to need to be taken to the brink and even nudged a little over the edge to wake up. We’re being kicked in our complacency these days from every direction, but it is one of those inconvenient, heaven-sent blessings that we need to get us off the pot, like Pearl Harbor or 9/11.

Take a look at “Dark Age Ahead”, Jane Jacobs, Vintage Books, 2004. Specifically Chapter 3, Credentialing Versus Educating.

“It has long been recognized that getting and education is effective for bettering oneself and one’s chances in the world. But a degree and an education are not necessarily synonymous.
Credentialing, not education, has become the primary business of North American universities.”

“At a minimum, achieving a four-year university or college degree, no matter in what subject, (means the) institution of higher learning has done the tedious first winnowing or screening of applicants.”

“The credential is not a passport to a job, its the passport to consideration for a job.”

“The more successful credentialing became as a growth industry, the more it dominated education.”

“Teachers could not help despairing of classes whose members seemed less interested in learning than in doing the minimum work required to get by and get out (with)…doubts about why they were sinking time and money into this prelude to their working lives.”

It’s no wonder Chang could have this kind of power over students, but shame on them, too, for accepting her abuse. She should have had her faced laughed in and her extortion reported immediately. A thug is a thug, be they from the ghetto, the barrio, the administration of a university or the Illinois senate… Cockroaches scatter when exposed to the light, but it takes people of courage and character to switch it on.

What’s the difference between housekeeping and researching/writing/stat crunching/editing all the ‘knowledge’ professors need to ‘publish’ in order to get tenure (i.e., job for life at our expense)? Frankly, I’d rather have cleaned out their garages in exchange for the useless piece of paper I own, although it IS in a really attractive frame. Hey, wait, I bought that, too.

These people come a dime a dozen in academia. Go back and take a look at the absolutely felonious nature Donna Shala, as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, spent the University’s money on things just as pitiful as this Ms Chang. In her job as Chancellor, and prior to being appointed Bill Clinton’s HUD secretary, Shala was reported once to have spent University money for $100,000 worth of cut flowers to decorate her University provided dwelling for a dinner party she threw.

Of course, as a dedicated lefty, Bill Clinton rewarded her with the opportunity to do with the nation‘s money what she did with the University’s, even though he knew of the controversy surrounding her elitist attitude towards other people’s money.

Just like the live birth abortion issue, there is a statute existing called “depraved indifference to human life” homicide that would apply here, and should be applied here. They are already insulting our collective intelligence by assuring us that these “children” had no idea of the harm this would cause to the unfortunate young man whose “privacy” they invaded. These “children” are old enough to vote, therefore considered old enough to reason. A “reasonable” person would most certainly understand the incredible pain, humiliation, crushing embarrassment and complete devastation of being exposed naked, vulnerable and in an act of sex to the entire world. They had to have an understanding of how they, themselves would feel if their most personal activities performed naked were broadcast to the entire world. DO NOT SAY THAT THESE “CHILDREN” DESERVE ANY MERCY. Fine. You want to give them mercy? They must be live-streamed, having sex with their partner of choice, to the entire world themselves. After which they should serve jail time for their depraved indifference to human life. In this day and at this time, do not insult our intelligence further by trying to tell us that these degenerates did not have a knowledge of suicides in this country because of cyber-bullying. We should probably kill these “children” before they are able to breed more of their kind. To do something like this, one would have to have no conscience, no compassion, no scruples whatsoever, along with being incredibly selfish and narcissistic. What kind of parents raised these malefactors which have been unleashed upon us? I most certainly hope they had no more children. My God, there could be more of these little bas$#@&s waiting to be loosed upon the rest of us and our unsuspecting children.
How will we or can we protect ourselves and our children from monsters like this? My total compassion and condolences go out to the family and friends of this young man, who seems to have been very talented and well-loved. I hope these little monsters are proud of what they did. I hope we remember them well. I hope we NEVER let them forget what they did here.
