Why does the progressive never realize what they sound like. I know they don’t know their history. But it seems every time they open their mouths they sound just like Hitler or Stalin sounded they. The Nazi made it crime punishable by death to listen to unauthorized radio programs during the war. Stalin sent people to the gulag for doing the same thing. This idiot and the progressive want to control what we eat, read, see or heard over the airwaves. How does the Government control the airwaves since they are a naturally occurring thing. Next they are going to tell us how to crap and how much.

So odd, they say “do journalism”. It’s not something you DO, it is an ethic you must practice. Just like a medical doctor practices The Hippocratic Oath. Doctors don’t “do medicine”. They practice medicine. Except maybe after government health care. I’m sure it will be easy to train someone to “do” medicine.

    (Gonna go “do” someone now.)

I studied journalism when I was in high school (many, many years ago). We were taught when writing a story to get the 5 “W’s” : Who, What, Where, Why & When. I decided not to go into journalism for some reason that I can’t remember. If the 5 “W’s” are followed (no opinion) the truth is reported. I would like to hear much more of this clip. It wouldn’t surprise me, however, if students are now taught that they don’t have to verify facts. All you have to do is read a “government ” run newspaper or magazine.

The obvious bias in the media, and university. is a backlash to the Nixon era. The tactics of the right wing back in the halcyon days of the weather underground and the sds, is still remembered as draconian. The same people who “demonstrated” against the viet nam conflict and railed against the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations, are still incensed and retributive toward the right. Many of these folks are the professors and so-called “journalists” (and presidential advisors) that carry so much weight with the loony left. They have not really grown much since those days.
Intellectual elitism is a self defining condition, and because of this, has been easy to propagandize and direct by the progressives. It is an ethical malfunction that has allowed this type of thinking to be broadcast, and a moral failure that political correctness has usurped truth and real justice in this country.
If we truly seek solutions to these problems we must turn back to compassion and faith. We have to realize that the only defense against irrational thinking is rational thought.and ACTION. Knowledge is all important, now. Our education system has been corrupted by progressive thinking. Our churches are next to be enlisted to diseminate the progressive agenda. We have got to be proactive in this battle against evil. Try to nip it in the bud. Take the Christian conservative view into the world and open some minds out there.

I think that journalism changed when the Viet Nam war was in progress. It hasn’t stopped either. Journalism is suppose to be unbiased reporting of the events that happen. The news media found that they could pretty much say whatever they wanted to and the government was powerless to stop them. Because of free speech and press. Which I think is a good thing unless it is abused as the left-wing media groups have done. Now it is just getting worse. Because no one in media has any morals anymore. It’s all about ratings.

We are in 2 wars, unemployment is at 9.8% and rising and we have a President that won’t even do a press conference even with a compliant press.

The Democrats had control of EVERYTHING for the last 2 years and did nothing to help unemployment, the deficit or spending. Now let’s see if the Republicans can do anything with having control of the House. It is unlikely, but what will be interesting is HOW WILL THE PRESS REPORT on what happens in the next 2 years.

For example, we couldn‘t get a report in the last year of Bush that didn’t report “the worst economy since the Great Depression”. Do we have a press that will say that about OBAMA now that he has surpassed that criteria?

About media “talking points”; up until the last election, whenever anyone in the media (including Fox) talked about the 2001/2003 tax rate changes (cuts), they were always referred to as “the Bush tax cuts for the RICH”, with the “rich” always emphasized. FNS with Chris Wallace used that label when confronting a Republican as recent as in a late October interview.

Now the entire media are in a great debate of how the middle class must not be hit with an enormous tax raise, if these tax cuts are not extended. Just 2 months ago there was absolutely no tax benefits in those horrible, recession causing, tax cuts initiated by the evil G.W.Bush, except for the very rich, that never pay their fair share.

Obama‘s grand plan continues and I challenge the GOP to get a leg up on reversing this misssing idiot from Kenya’s plane to destroy America from within. Recommendations: Don’t freeze raises, start a systematic course of dismantling government agencies who exist mere to spin the Obama administrations pro-black and pro-muslim agenda. For starters dismantle the FTC, FCC, TSA, DHS, Post Office, Agriculture, Energy, Interior, Workforce Investment Act funding, Secret Service and Treasury Department, foreign aid especially to North Korea and Mexico and suspension of all non-elected Czars.. The taxpayers have realized the president, czars, and the “do-nothing but spend congress” is overpaid. Senior retirees on Social Security have been told there is no inflation; therefore there is no justification for the COLA adjustments for two years. Obama “feels your pain and has a dream!” My dream is to eliminate “do-nothing” administration and government departments and agencies.

A reporter’s first responsibility should be to report accurately. For example, if they go to a government meeting they should try to accurately quote participants, etc. At times they also try to insert their own judgment to help the reader, such as assessing the mood of a crowd. That will always be in the eye of the reporter and those assessments will always contain bias that readers must try to put into context by considering the source. I do get disgusted by journalists who feel no obligation to offer both sides of an argument or to fact check people who are interviewed in stories. It often leaves readers with more questions than answers or even a skewed view of an issue. This clip is good example of a reader being left with far too little information from a story to make an informed comment.

So did I hear this right? We don’t teach Journalism – that journalist should have fact checking and verify things? This is pathetic, so basically there is no journalism, its all now unfounded Opinion Editorials… We already see how most people are avoiding such things like the plague. They don‘t want to read people’s opinions as news, they want the facts – from named sources and actual sourced links, people want REAL news…

This is why most people are moving to Fox News… they want reality, not Op Ed’s.

The media creates “news” more often than it reports the news. Listen to the media after a democrat party strategy meeting and you will hear every single one of the anchors on NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN and sometimes FOX say the exact same phrase from the party’s talking points. For example, last week it was GOP holding the middle class hostage so they can give more money to their beloved rich base. Every single person “reporting” or being interviewed used the same phrase verbatim beginning at the very same moment. We have been herded like sheep since the likes of Walter Cronkite. He did not report the news, he shaped the American conversation and mindset.

These are debate killers; and once they are used, all debate is worthless as it puts the opposition on the defensive to restore their own integrity in the debate. I simply refuse to discuss issues with folks who employ these tactics as a waste of my time.

I spent over 30 years on a university campus and this is what I heard, one day, coming from a classroom and out of the professor’s mouth: “I don’t care if you have to lie, I don’t care if you have to cheat, I don’t care if you have to break laws or violate the Constitution, your job as a reporter is to GET THE STORY.” When the instructor saw me standing in the hall (we knew each other), they paused and then said, “Of course I was just speaking figuratively.” – - Don’t believe that for a minute.

I am going to come out of the closet and admit that I too work at a university. I know I may have just destroyed my credibility with that admission. But unlike Hub City Progressive, I do not preach, I teach. I have had students, semester after semester, tell me that they recommend other students to take the courses I offer, as opposed to other professors. Why? Because, at the end of my course, they don’t know my political leanings. I present case studies from multiple points of view. I do not “fearmonger” the issues with “knee-jerk” reactions, as HCProg suggests happens on this site. Some times it does happen on this site. But HCProg’s own commentary is an example of a “knee-jerk“ reaction that tries to dismiss ”THE BLAZE” based on the comments of a few. That is hypocrisy! But then again, he provides more evidence of academia exemplifying quintessentially elitism.

Oh, that’s not how they teach people to do journalism, but that’s what ends up happening anyway!

Speaking from the standpoint of someone who wasted tens of thousands of dollars getting a Mass Communications degree then not going into the industry because I would have to move to some podunk town and get food stamps to survive (no, that’s not an exhaggeration), I can tell you all the pretense of media balance is a joke.

The majority of the professors and students I was in school with were hard-left. When I referenced the bias in the school’s own newspaper, I was told “This is college. What do you expect?” Uh… the fairness and balance you teach, put into practice? (BTW, for you that don’t know, fairness and balance aren’t Fox News focus group words. They’re taught in journalism schools nationwide and are supposed to be the expectation.)

What actually happens is, a hard leftie dolt goes into journalism and learns how to propagandize the masses, rather than how to report facts.

There was NO ROOM for opposing points of view, or any form of dissent whatsoever! MSM propaganda tactic #1 : quote unnamed sources when you can’t find anyone who will support your agenda on the record. If you can’t find an unnamed source, just make one up.

Example: the Tea Party = racist meme can be sustained nicely by running a “positive” piece on the Tea Parties, but throwing in some “unnamed sources” who heard racial slurs and calling balance.
