FedEx Searches for Missing Radioactive Equipment

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — FedEx is searching for radioactive rods used for medical equipment that went missing during shipment between North Dakota and Tennessee.

Memphis-based FedEx spokeswoman Sandra Munoz said Friday the rods are used for quality control purposes for CT scans. She says the rods were likely misplaced and there’s no indication the material was stolen.

She says the shipment was from Fargo, N.D., to Knoxville, Tenn., this week and the rods are in a metal cylinder that is about 10 inches tall and weighs about 20 pounds.

Munoz says as long as no one tries to open the metal container, the rods do not pose a danger.

According to the drudge report, the canister has been found.

“FedEx officials found an unmarked box of low-level radioactive material in their Knoxville station around mid-day today and canceled a search for the errant shipment.

“It was in our custody all this time,” said FedEx spokeswoman Sandra Munoz.”

Also noted in the same report “The exposure from this rod, you’d have to be in close contact with it for 1,000 hours to get a skin blister.”

Fed Ex Central must’ve misspelled Aw Alawki or Yemen on the address label. Seriously , is it too much to ask to safeguard RADIOACTIVE RODS ??

The govt. deems it safe to pack nuclear material in circus peanuts. Why does that not surprise me!

LOL, sorry, this cracks me up. Particularly because FedEx is the “vendor of choice” used by the government/military to deliver the “doomsday letters” that call their veterans back to war after they have finished serving active duty.

    UPS all the way.

Relax every one we’ll just look in every truck, or if you get an unexpected delivery and it glows, don’t sign for it. You’ll be responsible for the hazmat costs.

Whether the rods were misplace or stolen, it reflects VERY BADLY on fedex. I never use them myself as I have received expensive or important items for other people here while they are away and most of the time the fedex driver does not even ring the doorbell to let anyone know they were here. Any of these items could have been easily stolen off of the front porch. Also, they charge a fortune for their lousy service.

This is a bit of a worry, why do I feel we are giving our enemies what they need to construct a ‘Dirty Bomb’?

Its time to practice a bit of ‘joined up thinking’ I believe.

Why would they knowingly handle these ? FED EX isn’t supposed to be Homeland Security. If this were a government contract and and INSIDE Job the terrorists have another avenue.

I obviously don’t know about any sort of “contract”, but Fed Ex IS the government‘s choice for sending out their doomsday letters that call veterans back to war after they’ve finished serving active duty.

Needless to say, I avoid those trucks like the plague.

      Go UPS!
