Feds Bust Somali Born Teen in Bomb Plot at Portland Christmas Tree LightingPORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Somali-born teenager plotted to carry out a car bomb attack at a crowded Christmas tree lighting ceremony in downtown Portland on Friday but the bomb turned out to be a dud supplied by undercover agents as part of a sting.

Mohamed Osman Mohamud was arrested at about 5:45 p.m. just after he dialed a cell phone that he thought would blow up a van laden with explosives but instead brought federal agents and Portland police swooping in to take him into custody.

Federal court documents show the sting operation began in June after an undercover agent learned that Mohamud had been in contact with an “unindicted associate” in Pakistan’s Northwest Frontier region.

Mohamud is a naturalized U.S. citizen who has been living in Corvallis.

      As a result, the FBI wanted an open and shut case, essentially forced to make it as difficult as possible for the Eric Holder to free his Muslim/Terrorist brethern. Mohammed was allowed to run free until the lid was nailed shut precisely because of the black racist in the oval office and his equally black racist muslim/terrorist sympathising Attorney General Eric Holder.

      The FBI is just doing their job to fight evil in our midst and in the highest levels of our own government. The arresting agents in charge will likely be reprimanded then demoted.

      Pretty gutsy call during this current regime.

      I’m close by, too. My little grandbabies-the ones in my avatar-were at the tree lighting. I literally felt sick as we caught the tail end of a news report. My husband ran to the computer to get info, I grabbed the phone. Our young sons were terrified for their siblings and niece and nephew.
      I hate this state. It is so beautiful, but dear God. How they have managed to compile such a mass of crazy, tree hugging, America hating imbeciles, I’ll never know. They just elected a former Oregon governor who almost imploded the state his first go-round. Just plain stupidity.
      No surprise that the freak terrorist is from here. It’s a freak show all around.

      It’s an interesting debate you guys are having. The big accusation seems to be that profiling is racist. That word has so little meaning these days. I think it is pretty safe to say that most people have a greater amount of empathy with people that look like they do, and come from similar backgrounds. In effect, they com from the same “tribe”. Noticing differences and changes in our environment is one of the first skills of survival we learn. We even teach it on Sesame Street (one of these things is not like the other) to our children.

      Whether you like it or not, humans are tribal creatures. Recognizing a threat begins with something catching your eye. It makes us all, in a sense, racist. Our dilemma here is that where justice is supposed to be blind, today it is not. And where law enforcement is supposed to be vigilant, it has been blindfolded.

      This is backwards and does not work in the real world. It should be reversed.

      Publis – I‘m certain you don’t live in any “tribe”, but humans view their world from a tribal perspective. The “us and them” view predominates every situation we talk about here – even you identifying “us” not wanting to have you in our “tribe” puts you in your own tribe or at least outside of ours. Us and Them, Right and Left, France and Germany – all tribes. And in a time when acts of violence are being committed along ethnic lines, it is foolish and wasteful to ignore it. The color doesn’t matter. If the Norwegians were doing these kinds of things, I would expect to see a higher degree of scrutiny on their people as well.

      And, I’m curious, how do you know who is who on this site? I have been here since the beginning and there isn‘t a day that goes by that I’m not surprised by some of the things I read but, I certainly don’t know all of the “true” beliefs they hold. Some of the most antagonistic change like a chameleon and vice versa. And sometimes it just depends which side of the bed you get up on. However, concerning this young man, he is the same profile as the last three bombers so there seems to be a pattern here; and by the way, I don‘t own a gun so please don’t profile me.

      @PubliusPencilman I think what some of us have been trying to tell you is that SOME, most likely not all, but MANY of the really off the wall remarks here are being made by people who are NOT teapartiers and they are certainly NOT 8/28 folks (99% of whom signed the same pledge to non violence signed by those on the first march lead by MLK). Early on, many of us jumped on the interlopers and told them to sit down and rethink their response, but after a while we realized that many are trolls who are merely parodying what they think is a tea partier. After a point we realized that by countering them, we were merely feeding the trolls. You, on the other hand are (whether you mean to or not) fanning a flame war. Neither feeding trolls nor entertaining a flame war leads to healthy discussion so most serious comments will be found on following pages after the trolls and the flame throwers have given up and started on a new thread.

The only thing I see that causes the left to rant that the tea partys are racist is because they stand against Obama’s agenda and the only thing the left can say is that we hate Obama because of the color if his skin, which is not true. I have met Blacks at rallys that also do not like Obama’s agenda, how can they be racists?

I called him on it, and suggested that this might be why the Tea Party gets the kind of bad press it does. Another guy jumps on here and suggests that I too should be lynched. Somehow, everyone all in an uproar about what I said, even though several of you have made the same argument regarding the wacko minority and media coverage. Meanwhile, the whole lynching thing seems fine with everyone–the real crime is that I dared to call someone out.

      Firsthat, I see your points about trolls, but you are a bit in denial. Everyone that says stupid crap on these boards is not a troll, and you are doing yourselves no favors by ignoring the fringe element the Tea Party (yes, every organization has wackos in it, I’m not picking on the Tea Party).

      Help me understand. I have never heard of a murder plot where the FBI hand the guy an unloaded gun and waited till they pulled the trigger to have enough on them to arrest them have you. In the REAL world not CSI the cops just need intent on tape he could have been arrested after he took possession of the phone or the van or many other points before he was dialing and yelling “Allahu Akbar!”. I just wonder why it came to that point before the arrest in most cases that would be considered carrying it to far accept for on CSI which is my point why would they need that much drama.       You see, law enforcement can arrest someone for intent–however, this charge can be somewhat difficult to prove in a court of law. Why not hang in there, build up the charges, get a solid case, and have the chance to perhaps nab conspirators!

      The answer is yes on BOTH. The Feds can, and will charge him with “Conspiracy” to do whatever, so long as they have just ONE witness that will say that the suspect “Talked” to the informant about doing the deed. That ALONE will get him convicted in a Federal Court with no other witnesses nor any substantiating evidence whatsoever. BUT, if they provide the van and explosives, and actually get him to make the detonation call, then they have him dead to rights even if he had to be charged in a State Court where the rules of evidence require far more than just “Conspiracy”.

      But MORE IMPORTANTLY, the PR issue for the FEDS drives these “Sting” type operations. Without the Authorities help in obtaining all the “Hardware” for the plot, this kid is just another Islamo Facist Pig that hates this country, but couldn’t really do anything about it. This way it is a Lead Pipe Chinch in the Media that a “BOMB” did exist, and he actually pushed the button.

      Personally, I’d be fine with them putting one in the back of his head, as soon as he spilled his guts about wanting to blow up whatever. But that’s not an option, obviously. The way they do this, just serves their interests better than anything else.

      The big DRAWBACK to this method has been when the “Sting” has gotten away from the Handlers and something actually went BOOM that wasn’t supposed to. The first World Trade Center Bombing was notably set up and enabled by an FBI “Sting” gone wrong, just as the Oklahoma City Bombing was. But there is always unfortunate “Collateral Damage” possible, anytime these games are afoot. In the business it’s called “Triple Cs”: CIVILIANS CAUGHT in the CROSSFIRE.

      Wish I could tote a gun. My government wont allow it, loaded anyway. Guess they think I should throw it to protect myself from criminals or my government (redundant).
