Feds File New Suit Over AZ Immigration Law

The Obama Justice Department has filed another lawsuit against Arizona’s immigration law enforcement policies Monday, arguing that local community colleges were acting illegally in requiring non-U.S. citizens to produce their green cards before they could be considered for employment. The problem? All that paperwork.
The Washington Post reports:
In Monday’s lawsuit, Justice officials said the colleges discriminated against nearly 250 noncitizen job applicants by mandating that they fill out more documents than required by law to prove their eligibility to work. That violated the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, the department said.
The law’s anti-discrimination provision “makes it unlawful to treat authorized workers differently during the hiring process based on their citizenship status,” said Thomas E. Perez, assistant attorney general for Justice’s Civil Rights Division. He said the government “is acting now to remedy this pattern or practice of discrimination.”
Of course this newest lawsuit comes less than two months after lodged its initial legal complaint against the state and Gov. Jan Brewer (R) over the state’s strict immigration enforcement law and just days after it reported the law to the UN’s Council on Human Rights. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Justice Department are also continuing to keep a close watch over Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio who is known for being a strong proponent of border law enforcement.

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 8:58pmThe problem is that the Federal Government is infected with liberals that reach well below POTUS appointments. How do we purge these people who carry out the business of Government, by act or omission, consistent with their own personal bias? Especially when they represent such an insignificant percentage of what Americans truly believe…

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 10:41pmIt is clear that this administration is actively undermining American sovereignty in favor of pandering to illegal aliens who have no right to be here at all. They have halted construction on the fence, which was already funded. They have not only refused to enforce current immigration laws, they have ordered non-violent illegal alien arrestees to be released back into the US population without deporting them as US law calls for.
This is yet another reason to vote all “progressives” (socialists) out of office, and work non-stop to see that Obama is a one-term President. Out with “progressivism”! Out with socialists! Out with unions! Out with Democrats! All except for you, Dingleberry. We love you.

Posted on September 2, 2010 at 1:58pmI find it very interesting that this administration continues to try to make it easier for illegals by claiming department overload to justify releasing convicted illegals instead of deporting them, claiming too much paperwork and too time consuming to administer the verification process in our colleges and social programs. Why do we not have enough resources or money when it comes to enforcing the law for illegals but we don’t hesitate to hire how many thousand extra IRS workers to make sure they get their money from us? Interesting how this administration doesn’t care about spending money when it comes to health care, growing government, funding entitlement programs, ,etc. but when it comes to securing our borders, enforcing illegal immigration, monitoring the verification process in our schools and entitlement programs, we just don’t have the resources or the manpower to monitor these things. Get rid of these idiots!

How foolish for a bunch of old hippie radicals and Chavez lovers to think its possible to stop the freedom and independance that this country was founded on. I did not spend 20 years of my life defending anyones right to take away that freedom. If need be, I’ll spend the remainder of my life fighting against any FOREIGN or DOMESTIC threat to my liberty. Posted on September 1, 2010 at 12:34pmI am a natural born citizen of the USA and I have been required to show my social security card and a drivers license or a passport in order to be employed. I was told that the federal government required employers to get this information. Next time, I‘ll just claim to be an illegal so I won’t have to produce my papers.
This is another example of illegal aliens having more rights that a citizen. If a citizen comes across the border without a passport, it is a felony. The same action for an illegal is only a misdemeanor.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 10:10amIf the goverment won’t enforce the law or protect our rights we have the right “to alter or abolish it.” This is us altering, If they can’t get the borders secured then the states should be able to write their own legislation enforcing the already made FEDERAL law. We need to close down our borders. Illegals need to come through the front door not the back. It’s time that be enforced period.

Why did the Federal Government create the “green” card then? Hmmm. . . Why does the Federal Government have non-resident and resident documents for work, income taxes, as well as a “TIN#” for non-residents and “SS#” of residents? Maybe, just maybe, the Politicians should READ the Constitution, Regulations, and Laws of the United States. Maybe they will see the light!

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 4:32amI love Sherriff Joe!! We need more like him. I share his phylosophy that Prison is not supposed to be a “three hots and a cot” resort!! These people are convicted criminals! Why should they be housed and fed and recieve free medical and dental care at taxpayers expense?!?!?! Work should not be an option for these people, prison is a punishment for crimes!! Not a place to sleep and eat and pump iron and relax between crime spree’s.
.
Those who serve time in his prison get no ammenities. They have to work. It isn’t nice and cozy. They don’t want to go back. Most learn not to go back, BECAUSE IT ISN’T FUN!! God Bless Joe!!
No revolving door on his prison. No huge bill for the taxpayers to support these criminals.
As for “profiling”, give me a break..read the bill..It does not say that the police can stop any person who looks to be of hispanic decent, walking down the street and demand to see their papers. If one is in a situation where illegal activity is happening, they check EVERYONE’S papers!! Just like it has always been, regardless of one’s appearance. When a car is stopped for a traffic violation, everyone in the car is asked to produce identification. Just like it has been done for years. It shouldn’t be a problem if one has nothing to hide. I have been stopped for traffic violations and every one was asked to produce ID, and more than one “white” person has been arrested for outstanding warrents.
Report Post »Is this profiling?? Stop sniveling and get legal. Grow up.
If you want to live in America, GET LEGAL!! Pay taxes!! Join the system like the rest of us have been doing for 200 years, regardless of heritage. Learn to speak English!! Don’t like it? Go home..

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 2:29amAbout Sheriff Joe. I know he’s very well thought of around the country. I have never not voted for him. You hear the line in a movie, “There’s a new Sheriff in town” and you think of Joe Arpaio. Unfortunately, when the Feds charge him with abuse of power, it‘ll have teeth and won’t have anything to do with immigration. He‘ll say it’s Obama’s witch hunt. Wish it was. I really believed in this man! County Attorney (at the time) Andrew Thomas and Sheriff Joe wanted to approve the interim County Attorney after Thomas stepped down to run for AG of AZ. County board of supervisors would be in charge of filling the void. Thomas and Joe started bringing charges and indictments against the board members. One member has the prosecutor on tape telling him about the hell they were going to make his life, or… he could assure the Sheriff and County Attorney that the successor would be approved by them. Grand Jury on that case said an emphatic no (in regards to the board member they were seeking to indict). Thomas asked if they would return the case so he could find another prosecutor. Grand Jury said no and they voted to “end the inquiry”. I don’t care about Thomas. Sheriff Joe cuts deep. I find myself hoping for senile dementia, anything to explain this man’s betrayal!

Posted on August 31, 2010 at 10:49pmAs a police officer in the great state of Arizona for over 20 years I can only tell you because of the lax immigration enforcement I have been wearing my own handcuffs for all this time. Thank you Federal Government enablers. You made me take an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States and the great state of Arizona, and when I want to fulfill these oaths I’m a racist and racial profiler. I’ve had a great deal of encounters with illegal immigrants and feel sorry for them because the citizens take advantage of them on a grand scale. They pay them lower wages under the table, landlords threaten them with calling the Border Patrol if they don’t pay their higher rents than the other citizens, create an underground society, and as Beck says “this is modern day slavery”. We as Americans are better than this. Enforce the immigration laws on both the illegal immigrants and especially those who take advantage of them, like shady employers. I’m afraid this has gotten so far out of control over the years that a true solution will be very difficult.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 1:25amYour post was very well put. However to truly understand our governments response or lack thereof to the current situation in arizona, read up on the proposed north american union via http://www.spp.gov. I don’t think it will take you long at all to see through the fog and understand why your states sovereignty is being ignored and why amnesty is their pre-conceived solution. Isn’t it quite amazing that our commander in cheif has addressed this issue with the U.N.? Isn’t it odd that our president who swore to uphold the same values as you, holds office here as well as in the U.N.? What would happen to you if you decided to not only be an officer in arizona, but took a job as an officer in mexico at the same time? An alliance is being formed just like the European Union, what kind of shared common laws do you think will be proposed for us?

I guess this is one of his “teachable moments”. My question is: Since when is a lawsuit considered a debate, teachable moment or just public discourse. This lame excuse is typical for Obama. Also, if the Arizona law is a violation of civil rights then our Federal law must violate civil rights also. I guess it’s a matter of who gets to violate according to Obama.

Posted on September 6, 2010 at 6:44amAgreed, as a person who was forced to leave our Phoenix neighborhood after hearing frequent gun fire from the drug lords shootouts with each other and a group of armed men invading the home of a very nice Hispanic family that lived a couple doors down from us, I think its a shame the police aren’t able to do more for the neighborhoods that the criminal element illegal aliens are invading and taking over one-by-one. To believe a police officer in Arizona would begin hunting down every Hispanic looking family to look at their papers.
I believe it to be immoral if not criminal for our government to so greatly restrict the legal admission of good people from Mexico and other nations who want to enter our country and then refuse to protect the borders and enforce the laws they enacted in the first place. They are creating slaves and those they have enslaved want to be free. Let’s free them by letting them in legally, but don’t let the criminal riffraff in at the same time which is what an amnesty program would do..
