NEW ORLEANS (AP/The Blaze) — The Justice Department said on Tuesday it filed the first criminal charges in the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, accusing a former BP engineer of destroying evidence.
Kurt Mix, of Katy, TX, was arrested on two counts of obstruction of justice.
The Justice Department says the 50-year-old Mix is accused of deleting a string of 200 text messages with a BP supervisor in October 2010 that involved internal BP information about how efforts to cap the well were failing.
BP officials did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
Justice Department officials said Mix would make an initial appearance in federal court in Houston on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, a federal judge in New Orleans is expected to consider a motion to approve a $7.8 billion civil settlement between BP and a committee of plaintiffs in a civil case.
The BP-leased rig Deepwater Horizon exploded the night of April 20, 2010, killing 11 workers and setting off the nation’s worst offshore oil disaster. More than 200 million gallons of crude oil flowed out of the well off the Louisiana coast before it was capped.
The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 4:37pmThat’s right! In fact, the first arrest should have been Obama for fabricating a false flag attack just to shut down oil production in the Gulf for six months, tighten the regulations, drive up the price of gasoline, block new development of oil anywhere in U.S. territory etc He’s got blood on his hands. Secondly, Eric Holder should be arrested too for being an accessory to this crime.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 4:09pmObama wanted the oil to drain into the Gulf. He forced BP to study the problem and with his advisers. The whole thing was about building a greener America. It is green alright at the cost of 16% of all oil and minerals found. Years ago it was 12%, but has came up. The truth is the mineral and oil production percentages was equal what the IRS takes in yearly. This counts land and sea. We have lost billions because of the EPA and running oil companies off. We have lost tax dollars, jobs and a huge percentage of minerals and oil production percentages. This war on fossil fuels is a scam and so is this attack on BP. This country will crate jobs the minute obama is gone!

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 8:33pmI’d have to agree with you. If our national government really wanted to prevent oil spills, then they would have a policy that demands that in the event of any oil spill, the company responsible for the spill would have to pay $20 per gallon of oil collected by third parties. This would create an incentive for the industry to prevent oil spills and it would have spurred the recent developments in oil spill cleanup prior to the large oil spill. And, when you make the oil that is spilled a precious commodity, there is a higher probability that it will never make it to shore before being extracted from the surf.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 9:05pmHorse, if I crashed my car into a parked vehicle and then covered up the damage with leaves, would I not be liable to be arrested for obstruction of justice? This is almost the same thing but on a much larger scale. It doesn’t matter what they did after, if they broke the law by hiding information and purposefully misleading authorities, there need to be arrests made. This is how you maintain order in a lawful society.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 3:23pmHere’s something about companies you dim-wits probably don’t know. Many companies will bring in a VP to do the dirty work, and maybe even firing of workers. The President of the company will pretend as if he doesn‘t know what’s going on, and then he will eventually fire the VP, and yet the VP gets another cushy job somewhere else. Weird huh? Then sometimes they do it with the actual President of companies also.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 3:21pmI wrote in a post on another story just a couple days ago how blind hatred and twisted ideology is forcing Cons into what some would say are indefensible positions, such as defending price-fixing and bribery. Now many are defending a guy who destroyed/deleted evidence to cover his company’s butt after the oil spill. I forget who it was that joked that if Obama came out against cancer, the Right would come out in favor of it, claiming that he was just trying to regulate the cells in our bodies.

I mean Apple is going to trial over price fixing on their E-book sales…and it is going to be buried in the back pages of ‘historical records’..where is the outcry of ‘big business monopoly’ blather we hear from the left when it comes to industries they despise ie: energy, gun manufacturers….its the hypocrisy of this admin and its followers..if this oil guy is guilty , throw the book at him…

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 3:41pmJust a couple of thoughts; If I were destroying evidence would I invite someone else to watch. Maybe he was making room for important messages by deleting the ones he thought extraneous and had his supervisor giving a second opinion. As of this moment neither you nor I know the answer but it always seems to be the left that rushes to convict rather that listen to both sides. Just saying sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool then open it and remove all doubt.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 3:14pmObama was top recipient of BP-related dollars in 2008
OIL SPILL
May 05, 2010
President Obama addresses the media Sunday in Venice, Louisiana.
As petroleum giant BP comes under congressional scrutiny as its ruptured oil rig pumps thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, its political contributions are being scrutinized, too.
The top recipient of BP-related donations during the 2008 presidential election was Barack Obama, who collected $71,000, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
Wonder if Barry gave any of that back? Wonder if the MSM will just sweep this under the rug? Wonder if the lib trolls even know this to be a fact? I love how the admin will say ‘Well it was just the employees, and not ‘per se’ the company….”..and Barrys’ idiot minions will swallow that load of BS…this is a Kabuki Theatre Government run by a traitor and backstabber.
