Feds Raid Million Dollar Home of Welfare Recipient in Washington State

Welfare Recipient Lives in Million Dollar Home Near Seattle

Residents of a wealthy lakefront community near Seattle are surprised to learn that one of their neighbors, who has lived in a $1.2 million home for the last 8 years, is the recipient of more than $1,200 a month in public housing vouchers, federal and state disability, and food stamps. King 5 reports on the couple living large on the taxpayer’s dime:

 

The Seattle PI reports that federal prosecutors filed a civil lawsuit Friday, claiming that Lyudmila Shimonova and her partner, chiropractor David Silverstein, made false claims for federal government  housing assistance benefits totaling $135,000.

King 5 says that records show that the cheats have truthfully provided their address when applying for benefits. In addition to a lavish residence, court records indicate that the couple gives money to charity and has traveled to Turkey, Tel Aviv and several resort towns in Mexico.

An unnamed federal official told the station that the housing voucher program provides coupons that help low-income people pay their rent, and allows people to get out of housing projects and move into the place of their choosing. What the program does not do is analyze where people choose to move.

      Not all the facts are here. I know for a fact that ANY housing voucher REQUIRES a inspection from the agency issuing the voucher of the home BEFORE the applicant can move in. Sounds like someone got paid off to falsify reports.

      I‘m about to loose my home of 16 years struggling and spending the last nickel I have to remain in a home and all the while I’ve been paying taxes so this A H can get a mansion paid for out of my hard work! I’m outraged!

      Congress needs to implement a new law that states; if you are an able bodied person receiving Government entitlements you need to do community service to pay back the taxpayers who are helping you out. The more money you receive the more hours of service required. You would not give your kid an allowance for doing nothing. You don‘t learn the value of a dollar if it’s just given to you.

      This story is the problem with big government. Government employees must prove they are doing their job, if it is signing up people for welfare you overlook a few things as long as your making your quota, same goes with food stamps. Other agencies continue to pile on regulations to give their employees more things to go out and do their job with, EPA, DEQ, Osha, etc. We had the experience of even government contractors needing to prove they were doing their job during TB testing of cattle in our area, one veternarian was finding no evidence of TB in the herds she was testing while the other veternarian was finding suspect cattle in every herd she tested, well guess which vet kept her contract with the government of course the one finding evidence to continue testing into the future. In our herd she wasn’t finding any reactive cattle until she looked up and realized there were only 11 head left to test so out of those 11, 10 came back reactive and needed to be tested again and when she came back the very first cow that came in the chute she determined it to be suspect the rest were cleared so that cow was shipped out to be slaughtered only to find it didn’t have TB and we found this was happening at every farm she tested.

      This is common in Washington State. The majority who work for the state do the very minimum in order to do the jobs that they suppoxedly are required to do. And the public seems to turn a blind eye to someone who is recieving money that they are entitled too, somhow believing that any time tjhat you can fool the state for money it is all right, forgetting or simply ignoring the fadt that it is the Taxpayers not the state that is supplying those cheaters with the aid. Anyone who blatenly recieves money like those mentioned in thw article should have their property forfeited, and should enjoy a vacation in prison for a while. But I repeat if the so called workers in the various departments “Both Statf and Federal” were doing the jobs that they are being payed to do then there would be quite a saving to those enities.

      I work for every dime I have.
      I am nearly homeless and the water to my house was shut off a week ago due to non-payment.
      ( I worked for the 130 Dollars It will take to turn it on tomorrow )
      I used to average 1400 dollars a week in 1992.
      I got shut out by technology in addition to corrupt criminals in Washington manipulating the economy and sending our jobs overseas to redistribute the wealth abroad.
      And people don’t understand why I am PI$$ED OFF ??????

      To compare: Look at how many of our government & congress steal from us too. Corruption abounds in many forms. I’d almost bet a bunch that half of the people drawing welfare, housing benefits, and food stamps are doing it fraudulently.
      Knew a professional lady who’s divorced husband went on public assistance and would go to food banks and get extra butter, etc. and share enough with her so she could share it with her friends.
      This was firsthand knowledge and it really ticked me off. The lady was a prof. at a local college and made plenty of money.

This is what we need to do: go after the culprits by phone, email, visits or whatever and watch the state of Washington to make sure they don’t sweep this under the rug.       Pretty outrageous. There has to be a better way to help the truly needed get the help they housing or food help they need. Unfortunately, like most federal programs, food stamps has become a great ATM for the grocery industry. Also, this is akin to Exxon getting $5 billion in federal tax credits.

      It’s a fact that all buidings to be used as dwellings have to be inspected. All the appliances have to work properly, even the light bulbs have to work. I was cleaning out some storages in the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina & I came across a Section 8 rental list. It gave the address, description of the house & rent amount. I was floored when I saw a lavish house on the Section 8 List in the “Super Rich” area called English Turn. Television Chef Emeril Lagasse had a house built there. I still have the paper somewhere, I’m not exactly sure, but I think the rent there pre-Katrina was $1,400 a month. Rent has escalated since Katrina, more than doubling in most places. At any rate, that cost for anyone to rent a house on Section 8 is outragious and robbing the tax payers.

      How can 2 people on a housing voucher have such a huge house. The house would only be 1 bedroom and only up to the current price a reasonable 2 bedroom would go for. They they would have to have it inspected to make sure it is qualified for the section 8 program…something else is going on here, where are the state and county officials who oversee the housing program????

      The difference is that the “Banksters” etc.. followed the law as passed by congress. If we don’t like how they behave all we need to do is change the law. These welfare fraudsters are taking money that could be going to someone who has a real need. It could be helping someone provide for themselves.       My handicapped adult son gets SSI (based on the fact that he can’t work, nothing to do with our income). If it went away, I would have to put my husband’s parents on the street because they are living in a house we own together, of which we pay a mortgage (they own their half). The house went on the maket right as the housing market was crashing, over 3 years ago, and hasn’t been able to sell. We could make it without the SSI, but only if we weren’t paying 2 mortgages. It makes me sick that there are millionaires on Welfare and food stamps. All I can think of is Cloward and Piven.

      Baddoggy if you even tried to think for a second you would realize what loriann12 was saying. Her son is on SSI, therefore he is able to not be a burden on his mother who is doing the honorable thing and taking care of her inlaws instead of making them the tax payers problem. So if that goes away we as the tax payer will have 2 people to care for instead of 1. If anything you should be celebrating what a caring and compassionate women she is instead of being negative.       Economic collapse will right many wrongs. The riots, burning and looting will be tough to go through, but too many welfare parasites will be upset when the checks stop coming. No more EBT credits on the first, no more SSI, no Sec. 8, no Medicaid, reduced Medicare, no prescription drug benefits, etc…

      Actually, you’re allowed to use an SSI check for food and housing. My son tithe’s on his SSI check, giving 10% to the church and gets an allowance to spend anyway he wants to. It is less than the mortgage payment.

      I think it would be great to end it all then re-instate it as
      1. If Qualified You will be on Welfare with the child u have now and the fruition of current pregnancy
      and only 2 offspring’s will be covered.
      Obviously u need help in feeding said children and U need not have anymore. IF you have more children they will NOT be covered.Or better yet Voluntary Temporary Hysterectomy and Vasectomy. Til You can get on your feet again.

      2. No One in the family tree will Qualify for said Person above in using Welfare to take on added
      children after the effective date of Qualifying for Welfare. Can Qualify if Said Person dies in
      Childbirth or Natural Causes, not from Gunshots, Murder or Drug Overdose or other acts of
      a Crime.
      Ends Eons of Family on Welfare due to Baby factory to Qualify for Welfare to Grandma and Grandpa and Cousins and Sisters and Brothers and Aunts and Uncles and 2nd cousins and so on.

      3. Like Unemployment One must go to look for a job if Not a Senior Citizen or Disabled or Handicap
      in any way that working is not feasible, It will be mandatory to look for work and have it signed
      by Manager of said Working place you are applying for =Accountability.

      4. After 4 years you Must Qualify again.And same rules apply.

      There are other rules that can be added but these are the ones That Most DRAIN from the Limited Welfare pool.
      And if You can Come Up with a better Idea,Do So if not, Don’t Complain with what I wrote.

      Both methods you indicate for birth control are permanent.No chance at reversal.Women aren’t given hysterectomys for birth control.They are given tubal ligations either through surgery or some of the newer methods[essure comes to mind]for birth control.A iud is used for long term birth control but is reverseable.Hysterectomy is used only for serious and potentially fatal health concerns.It involves the removal of the uterus fallopian tubes and ovaries[total].Any combination without all removed is known as a partial hysterectomy.
      Vascectomy is the only permanent birth control I know of for a man.
      One thing I’d change.No children are to be used when welfare is determined.Not one two absolutely none.

    Sounds like a good reason to file seperately. I’m in college right now and make pretty much no income so maybe I can qualify to have the taxpayers pay for my food and mortgage. End sarcasm. This happens everyday and more often than you can believe. When you have federal and state aid programs run with taxpayer dollars and employees of the taxpayers overseeing its implementation you lose any meaningful oversight and you demoralize the charitable base in society. As long as the gov’t hands out “free” money there will ALWAYS be someone with their hand out who just wants something. That is why charity should be completely voluntary and come from the individual or organizations of individuals who are united by their own choice and free will.

    They can;t audit. A computerized check by zip code would catch some scammers. Demographers can use the 9 digit zipcode & know with a reasonable amount of certainty much information ab out the resident s of said zipcode. It ain’t that hard to program.

      State governments have their computer software set up so they can store data on whether the interior walls of your house are wood paneling or dry wall & plaster. They do the same with plumbing fittings. Why should the state government care if you have 2 faucets (fittings) in your house or 3?

      Does that makes sense?

      - Meanwhile the elected set up friends & families on state commissions, where they draw 6 figure salaries to look into some sort of problem.

      - But if they have to cut, they cut teachers & policeman 1st & commission never. Gov Christie cut commissions to help balance the budget.

      Hey @SURHANSURHAN – Which Bush? The one that vacationed at Kennebunkport, ME or the one that went to Crawford, TX every chance he had?

      The only other President in ‘modern times’ to go on so-called ‘Destination Vacations’ was Bill Clinton, and his excuse was he was homeless (his first home was a mansion in White Plains, NY).

      Reagan went to his ranch in CA, Carter went to his peanut farm in GA, Nixon went to his house in San Clamente, CA, and I don’t think Ford was in office long enough to take any number of vacations.

      JFK and LBJ went to family homes as I recall, but they were a bit before my time.

      Eisenhower went to his farm in Gettysburg & Camp David (named after his grandson)…

      That about covers the last 50 years – what is your definition of ‘modern times’?

    There was an article a few weeks ago about illegal Mexicans collecting 4.2 BILLION in bogus tax refunds. They don’t have social security numbers but learn how to scam the goverment by getting employer tax IDs.

      Yes, but the liberals will still tell you that illegals pay more in than they take out. They will get someone for a liberal think tank like the Center for America Progress (in part funded by Soros) to show that via some sort of analysis (sleight of hand accounting & statistics that would make Mark Twain gripe once more about damned liars). The best part will be where JeZuS (JZS) provides us a link & admonishes us that we should pay attention to said analysis.

      @walkabout – do illegals buy more tires, gasoline, airline tickets or other federally-taxed items (like visits to tanning salon, liquor, and cigarettes than tax payers?

      The debate is INCOME TAXES not excise taxes, BTW.

      I believe the illegals do more harm than good. The liberals argue they pay SS but don’t draw. But a full accounting would loo at all social services they use. It can’t be argued that it is illegal for them to draw state services, because many government entities purposefully overlook that they are illegal & give them government money anyway.

    Its people like this that ruin it for those who need it the worse… and this is one reason we are in trouble economically. I know of several cases where people are scamming the Welfare and SSI.. and even called to report it. And the government did absolutely nothing!! I hope this couple serves some serious time behind bars…

      Trust me when I say that it’s not people like this that ruin it for the rest. I am a landlord and the people that ruin it for others is what landlords call “Professional Tenants”. They are low life leeches that have the knowledge of a Tenant Landlord Attorney. They know all the ins and outs and if you try to evict them, they throw all the road blocks that they have learned from their parents. I’ve accidentaly rented to family members of people that have done this to me and they were exactly the same. I have since learned to steer clear of them through strick application processes.

      #fightforlife I own a property managment company that does both commercial and residential and I agree with you 100%! unfortunately the professional tenants I see these days have infiltrated some of my commercial properties and are frequent fliers of the business bankruptcy and reopening LLC’s in all sorts of names so it isnt identifiable. I am fed up with it!

      I agree. What about the HOUSING project ALSO in WASHINGTON state mainly for ILLEGAL ASIANS who get TOWN HOUSE, (cost per $ 336,000) with maintenance provided by US GOV (US) and they are ILLEGAL??? WIth mostly brand new automobiles (with fancy wheels ) parked out front.
      I want a PRESIDENT who will ride ROUGH SHOD over these ridiculous welfare recipients. ALSO: IF people coming to the USA were made to take courses on how we became the USA and the sacrifices that have been made…and required to SPEAK ENGLISH instead of forming their little colonies…I doubt that they would be so eager to rip us off via WELFARE fraud. IT goes hand in hand.

    If you don’t learn how to cheat the system in Russia or the Ukraine you will die. My friend married a Ukrainian girl. She looked emaciated. Child support for her child in the Ukraine was @$8 a month. She told me all kinds of stories on how things are there.People to this day survive on potatoes. Its no small wonder that these girls want to marry American men.
    It doesn’t make up for this cheat. It makes the honestly disabled look bad and it gives some douche bag the chance to have hearings and cut funding from those who need it.
    Like all things there are good and bad that come with it.

      Now that is a good question.. I would like to know too. But as far as this story goes., the welfare state has reached fever pitch. I recently learned of a man in Ohio that was collecting 4000 a month for multiple children he had fathered over the years by different weman, even though he was no where near any of the kids and not apart of any of their lives..       I agree, the Russians have huge organizations doing exactly this kind of fraud, as well as credit card, debit card, vehicle theft, vehicle cloning (stolen cars using legit VIN from salvaged cars etc). This has been going on all over the U.S. but it is very big in the NW. In lib states, that love to give away money with little or no checks and balances, this is bound to occur. Recently it was reported that California and Washington (among others) had billions of food stamp money (EBT cards) being run thru atms in China, Mexico, you name it….imagine that. Washington‘s social service agency wouldn’t acknowledge there was a fraud problem until it was exposed by a local TV station. People would sell their EBT card, call social services and report it stolen and get a new one right away. Next month, repeat the process. This in a state that is $2 Billion plus in the whole…w/ a democrat governor and legislature for the at least the last 25 years. No fiscal checks and balances and one of the most liberal welfare systems in the country, so liberal in fact that folks come from other states when their benefits run out and apply for benefits here, and they are welcomed with opened arms. This hag of a governor and her demokratik sozialist legislature are a freakin’ disgrace. They make it easy for dirt bags to pull off scams like this.

      The forms ARE difficult. That’s why most people are denied benefits the first time and have to appeal, get a lawyer, resubmit.
      She was probably committing fraud.
      If she actually has a condition that makes her disabled then there is no law against living in a good home with a Doctor as your roommate (or whatever, shack up buddy). It looks bad, as if she is living high on the hog but the Dr is probably paying the lions share.
      Again, she probably IS committing fraud but don’t assume all disabled are cheats.
      I’m disabled, my wife works, we have a decent house, bills up the as5.
      I have had 3 bypasses, heart stents, a partial amputation, copd, and now Cancer. I probably look OK to you and if you saw me get out at my handicapped spot you would thing I’m pulling a fast one. You CAN NOT judge a book by it’s cover. My father in law lived a hard 25 years with heart disease. People would stare or talk behind his back but his quality of live was terrible. He died alone, tired of all the medications he quit his meds, said goodbye and died.
      I know there are cheats out there but there are a lot of people who worked and paid into the system and they should not be judged. Their problems are between themselves and their doctors.

      It’s time to drag my catheter upstairs and try to sleep. If anyone wants to trade places I’m up for negotiations.
